Raina lay motionless on the cold stone floor, pain exploding through her body. She barely had the strength to lift her head, but when she did, her vision cleared just enough to see Prince veyne standing beside Alpha Darius. His usual cold expression remained unchanged as he spoke, his tone was calm. “Father, since you took control of the pack, we’ve had attacks everywhere. Rogues running rampant, and disagreements worsening among the northern and southern territories. But our true threat lies with the rival Alpha, Alpha Slade Windrunner of the Windrunner Pack and Alpha Jaxon Shadowfell of the Shadowlands pack. If Kai managed to escape, it means someone is backing him, and those two are the most likely culprits. Instead of wasting time on a slave, we should monitor them. The moment we confirm they’ve taken him in, we strike.” Alpha Darius listen, nodding slowly. “That makes sense.” But then his gaze shifted back to Raina. His lips curled into a sneer as he took in her messy state. His eyes landed on her bare wrist. Her wounds were healing slowly... Alpha Darius frown before letting out a harsh laugh, then grabbed Raina’s chin and forced her to meet his eyes. His fingers dug into her jaw, his voice dripping with disdain. “A mere slave, yet you seduced a traitor and defiled this place. Tell me, how should a disgraceful w***e like you be punished?” The gathered people murmured in agreement. A servant immediately stepped forward and suggested, “Alpha, she should be publicly shamed and then hang to death!” "Father!!" Veyne murmured, but before he could finish, Raina summoned the last of her strength. "I… am not guilty." Darius’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What?” “I didn’t seduce him…” she rasped, every word a struggle. “He and I… loved each other.” The moment those words left her lips, the room froze. Then! SMACK! Darius struck her across the face with such force that she saw white. A sharp pain exploded in her cheek, the metallic taste of blood flooding her mouth. The guard beside him rushed forward. “Alpha, such filth is beneath you. Don’t dirty your hands.” Darius inhaled deeply, then exhaled, as if forcing himself to remain calm. His lips twisted into a cruel smile. “You say you love him?” he sneered. “Fine. Let’s see if he comes back for you.” Raina trembled, struggling to keep herself upright. “Th… thank you… for your mercy.” Darius’s smirk deepened. “Oh, I’ll grant you mercy. From now on, you will serve me.” A ripple of shock passed through the room. “Until I say otherwise,” he continued, “you will be by my side, every waking moment. No rest. No respite. You will wait on me like the dog you are. Let’s see how long before you break.” With that, he turned on his heel and stormed out. The rest of the court followed, leaving Raina alone with Veyne. He didn’t speak. He simply stood there, staring down at her with an unreadable expression. Raina forced a hollow smile. “Thank... you..” Veyne lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something but in the end, he turned and left. And when the last of them was gone, Raina collapsed. Tears spilled freely from her eyes, shaking sobs wracking her already broken body. Kai… Why did you leave me? Did you not know what they would do to me? Did you not care? No. No. She refused to believe it. There had to be a reason. He would come back, right?
