Raina lay on the cold stone floor, her limbs weak and trembling. The sight of the silver pliers sent a chill down her spine. She had never been subjected to torture in all her years in the palace, but she had seen enough to know what awaited her. The guard was holding a silver pliers. The handles were long and slender, making it fits so well in the guards hand. The silver seemed to shine with a faint glow as if it was made with dark magic. The guards seized her hands and forced her fingers into the silver pliers. The cold silver pressed against her skin as she felt a searing pain that shot through her entire body. Raina’s vision blurred and she bit back a scream, her teeth clenched in a futile attempt to bear the pain. "I've heard that you're gifted painting. It would be a shame if those hands were ruined." Alpha Darius cold voice suddenly sounded, his eyes darkened. "Tell me, where is Kai?" Raina met his gaze but said nothing. Darius’s patience snapped. "Again." The guard obeyed instantly. The silver plier crushed Raina’s fingers in a brutal vice. A sharp, unbearable pain shot through her hands. "AHH—!" The scream tore from her throat. The pressure intensified. Her bones strained under the force, the pain so excruciating that black spots danced in her vision. "Will you talk now?" Alpha Darius's voice was sharp. "Where did he go?" Raina gasped, struggling to breathe through the pain. Sweat dripped down her forehead. Her body trembled violently, but she forced out a whisper. "I… I don’t know…" Darius’s eyes turned murderous. "More force!" he barked. "Let’s see how long she lasts!" The guard pulled harder. The pressure on her fingers became unbearable. A sickening crack. She couldn’t even scream anymore. The pain had reached its peak, suffocating her. Her nails split, blood pooling at her fingertips. The unbearable pain sent waves of nausea rolling through her stomach. Yet, Darius was unsatisfied. "Torture her until she talks!" The room blurred. Her mind teetered on the edge of consciousness. Just then, "Father!" A voice rang out. A loud snap echoed through the chamber. The silver plier snapped as a loud snap sounded through the chamber The sudden release sent Raina collapsing forward, her forehead striking the stone floor. Pain ran through her skull, but it was nothing compared to her mangled hands. Through the haze, she heard hurried footsteps. "Father, think!" The voice was calm. "Kai escaped without raising the alarm. This was carefully planned. Someone outside the palace helped him. If he wanted to take her with him, he could have. But he didn’t." No. No, that wasn’t true. "If he cared for her, he wouldn’t have left her behind. He didn’t trust her. He never intended to take her." That wasn’t true! Raina’s lips parted, desperate to refute the words. Kai had promised. He had promised they would be together. He had held her. He had whispered to her, made her believe she mattered to him. How could he leave her behind? Silence filled the room. Then, Alpha Darius spoke again, his voice calmer. "Then what do you suggest?"
