CHAPTER ONE
CHAPTER ONE
ADIRA'S POV
I laid there watching the younger pups fall asleep as their parents were in the next room. One of the pups had he's leg out as the blanket didn't cover him up properly. I got up from my chair and closed the book I was reading them, putting it on the night stand as I went and adjusted the young boy.
I put he's leg back on the bed properly as I tucked him in securely. Making sure he had a warm sleep. Before closing the children's room I smiled to myself knowing I was the reason they slept well tonight.
These were my true and only people.
"My Queen, there has been reports of King Elijah and he's Royal Pack searching for you, again. What should we do?" One of my men asked as he looked determined to follow any order I was going to give.
That's also another thing I loved about my people, their loyalty. Not for my rank but for my actions. Something you will never get freely with Elijah's Pack or any pack. Only mine.
"It's been 2 years, my friend." I smiled as I patted he's shoulder. "Although I'm shocked why it took so long for him to try and track me again, I'm not fully surprised either." I then turned to the other women and men, as they socialised in the main room of the large house we've been staying in.
"Attention." I spoke up, making all of them halt in what they were doing to give me their attention.
"I know you have heard of King Elijah and he's efforts at trying to take me away, but I made a promise to you all, 2 years ago. So, whoever thinks I am not worthy of my words, then stand forward." I looked around the room to see no one standing forward, as proud formed in their eyes as I smirked.
"Good." I smirked wider. "Just because we have a few wolves chasing our tails does not mean we should be afraid or distracted at what's at planned. I will uphold my word and give you the life you deserve." I then pointed over to the room at the end of the hall. "With your children who have nothing but innocents written on them. I will help you, as long as you stay by my side." I then bowed lightly as I walked off with my second in command at my tail.
"Yes, Damien?" I smirked as I looked over my shoulder to see him.
"Queen Adira, although your words were inspiring and nothing but honesty. King Elijah is ruthless and will go to any means to have you." He explained with worry but I then turned the corridor to my office, as I opened the door for him to step in first before closing the door shut.
"Speak." I demanded in a low tone, sitting behind my desk with my arms folded over my chest while my legs were kicked up on the desk.
"What Daniel said to you earlier is the truth. King Elijah is looking for you, but what he forgot to mention is that he's more head strong then he was before. He's more cruel, Queen Adira." I went into thought after registering what Damien, my second in command just said.
Elijah, my Elijah? When I was with him, he was anything but cruel. Annoying and stubborn, but never cruel.
"Explain." I narrowed my eyes at him as he fidgeted in my gaze.
"I don't understand, my Queen." He bowed while I could smell sweat coming from he's hands.
"Explain in detail of your statement."
"Oh, yes. My apologies." He bowed again, which was starting to annoy me. I miss my old second in command. Although Damien was sufficient and loyal, he was too uptight.
"There's been reports that he has given curfew to all the lands, for every pack. That if any member returns after dark they shall either be punished harshly or banished." Damien explained with fear in he's eyes.
He was either thinking of it or remembering it, either way he wasn't lying.
I looked down as I felt pain that my mate was hurting, but I knew if he ever saw me he would hate me. I also knew that leaving my pack was not an option.
"What are we going to do?" Damien asked as he pulled me out of my thoughts.
I only put my feet down and sat up straight as I started to pull something out of my first draw.
"You're doing nothing. I, on the other hand will take care of this."
"But-" Damien tried to reason with me but I couldn't put my pack at risk. I knew what I had to do.
"But nothing." I growled.
"You will stay here and look after the pack in my absence. As the second in command that is your duty and an order from your Queen."
"What will you do?" He asked as he looked worried for me, but I only ignored it as I stood up.
"I'm going to go and do something I should of down before claiming this pack again." I replied as I opened the door, gesturing for him to leave.
"Yes, my Queen." He bowed he's head. "But what will I say if the people ask why you're gone?" He asked before walking out.
"Say I have matters to take care of, and either when I'm gone or here things will be the same." Damien only bowed as I closed the door and opened another door, it was my bedroom that was connected to my office.
I face planted on on the pillow as my head was starting to ache. I didn't eat today, but how can you have time to eat when everyone needs your help.
It was exhausting, but it was never a regret.
I lifted my head and grabbed the letter I took out of my office when Damien was speaking to me.
It was a letter from Blaine, one of my warriors before I ordered her to stay with her mate. if anyone knew about Jace and Elijah's state, it would be her.
