After walking out of the bar the air was delicious with the aromas of all the wonderful foods available at the booths all over at least a 2 block area. I took a moment to deeply inhale and savor it all. I walked down the few steps that led down to the sidewalk which was already starting to get crowded.
I opened my eyes in time to see 3 classics turning in front of me to head down where the original high school was located and the current spot for the car show. I was jumping like a kid in a candy store at the sight of such beauties. The sidewalks were crowded and I was trying to shuffle through to make my way to Luna.
"Well hey there Shay Shay, you and I have got to stop this tango we do." His voice dripped with his arrogant voice drawled.
I knew who it was, Andrew. He still wreaked of beer, but he had changed his clothes. But now he had another smell.....vodka. Great he was now going to be even worse. My gut sank. Will this asshole ever learn? Probably not. I did my best not to reach out and throat punch him.
"Look Andrew you have to get over yourself. We aren't now nor will we ever, what was it tango? Never happen ever!" I hissed.
"Slow your roll girl. You just need some time with Drew!" Taking his hands palms out as if displaying whatever prize he had in his pants.
I choked on air if that's even possible. Laughing almost falling where I stood. He started to turn red like his ego had been beaten. I'm sure there is some girl out there for him but I'm sure as hell not that one.
"f**k you Shay Shay!" Andrew almost screamed, and with that he stormed in the opposite direction.
I composed myself while watching to make sure the idgit didn't turn around and come back. At this point I was unaware of how many people had actually stopped and caught the little show. People were smiling and snickering.
"I never figured anyone could get Andrew as good as you have. Twice in one day, I have to shake your hand." A tall gentleman in wranglers boots and hat held out his hand.
"I guess I set him off without trying." I chuckled and extended my hand.
We shook hands and exchanged a few pleasantries. Turns out he owns a ranch near Crookston but as a hobby him and his son restored a 1949 Chevrolet 3100 deluxe half ton. This was the first year since finishing the project he was showing it. Turns out his son was a marine and while serving his country he lost his life to a roadside bomb.
I felt bad for him. He had lost his wife to cancer just a year after they lost their son. So it was just him and their daughter who had just graduated high school. Sweet guy, told him I would have to look for his truck at the show.
We parted ways with a handshake. I turn around and almost plow into Xandra. My eyes about popped out of my head. We both start laughing.
"Girl I thought you stood me up!" Xandra poked with a scrunched face.
"Never! Had a run in with Andrew twice!" Holding up 2 fingers I huffed and rolled my eyes. "Then chatted with a rancher about his truck he has here for the car show."
"Andrew? When will that dickless wonder boy ever go away?" She asked sarcastically.
Before I could answer she giggled and held her hand up. She looked at me a moment. Like she was working on words that hadn't gotten put together just right. I looked at her curiously for a moment trying to figure out what she had the gears turning in overdrive for, but decided it was a lost cause.
"Well shall we head to the show? Or did you want to grab some dinner first?" Looking at Xandra wondering if she was actually listening or still grinding her thoughts. "Yo! Space Cadet, you there?" I joked.
"Sorry not all there. Rolling a few marbles about." She giggled.
"Well? Food first? Or hit the show?" I sarcastically repeated.
"Well I'm starving so food first." She gave me a very serious DUH face with her hands on her hips.
"Cafe sound good? Or Drive Inn?" Secretly hoping she said cafe. Cafe was about 2 blocks down while the drive inn is about 5 or 6 blocks.
I was happy she chose the cafe. We walked the short distance to the cafe walked in and found a table near the wall. The cafe was a nice little place that had antique decor. Posters for movies and ads for products. Stuffed pheasant mounted as if in flight. The food by far was my favorite for establishments in this town.
We sat and talked while we waited for the waitress to bring our dinner. I got my usual patty melt and fries while Xandra decided for their swiss mushroom burger and fries.
"So I finally got some leads to look into for my family" I said excitedly.
"Really? What did you find out?" She questioned.
"Well my mom had contacts in Sioux City Iowa. Found out who her landlord was. I mean not a huge definite thing where she is but a couple leads at least." I answered.
"So I guess you'll be leaving soon?" Sounding almost disappointed.
"Probably but not for a couple weeks at least." I shrugged.
"Well you have my number so don't forget about me!" Xandra almost squealed. "Now done with the serious, so I saw Shayne today. We met for coffee and tomorrow he's taking me for dinner" she buzzed.
"Really? I thought Shayne just wasn't man enough for you." I sarcastically mocked, referring to another conversation from before. I didn't want to admit it but I was just crushing on Xandra. Curious about the possibility of a relationship with her. So her being excited about Shayne was great considering I would be leaving sometime soon.
She swatted at me and told me to shut up. We quickly got back to her date tomorrow and how she didn't have a thing to wear, which I called bullshit on because the second bedroom in her apartment was strictly her closet....quite literally.
As soon as the waitress arrived with our food we made small talk in between bites. Was really going to miss her when I left. Would have to start over wherever I landed. As soon as we were finished and paid for our meal we walked out the door onto main street which was now buzzing with life.
We made our way through people and vendors, pausing a few times to look at merchandise. As soon as we hit the intersection with the bar we turned and made our way towards the main attraction. I couldn't wait to see some of these classics up close.
Right on end left side of the street I saw it, 1949 Checrolet 3100 pickup

It was most beautiful royal blue I had seen. The body shined in the light. I walked up and shook the owner's hand and told him how much I admired the work him and his son put into it. We chatted about what condition it was in when they first acquired it and about how much they put into it. It was hard to believe that this truck wasn't more than a day old from how she shined now.
I could tell Xandra was looking a bit bored. I think she just wanted to hang out with someone. She didnt really care about cars. Her mistake to invite me for a car show. Out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of a 1969 Chevy Nova. I grabbed Xandra's arm and drug her across the street.

Cherry red with twin racing stripes down the center. I said hello to the woman from the bar earlier and talked to her husband about his baby. I was like a kid in the candy store around all these cars. There were all makes and models you could dream of.
We made our way up down and around all of them. There were about 30 cars and trucks at least. Even a few motorcycles. Xandra at this point looked extremely exhausted.
"Shay I'm beat. Think we could get a drink before I head home?" She almost whined. Not her best quality.
"Of course. I should get some sleep too if i want to make any headway" I replied.
We headed to the bar and grabbed a couple drinks before heading our separate ways. Tomorrow I was crossing my fingers that I would get some much needed information. As I headed back out to Greg's land on Luna I only hoped for a better nights sleep than last night.
Parking Luna on the side of my tent I then crawled inside and didn't bother changing. I got my boots off but then curled inside my sleeping bag and let sleep overtake me.
