Chapter 2 - I Need To Be Strong.

'Grief is like the ocean, sometimes the water is calm and sometimes it is overwhelming' ~ Vicki Harrison Daniella's P.O.V. Are you ok?. They're three little words that are innocent and it's a simple question that is asked to us in good faith and with good intentions by those who love and care for us but in my opinion when you're asked it a million and one times, it can get kind of annoying and tiring. I can't even count how many times I've been asked are you ok? since my mom and dad died and as much as I appreciate everyone's concern for me, it can get annoying after some time because there's only so many times I can hear this question or say that I'm fine before I eventually lose my mind. Ever since we came home from the church, I've been playing the perfect host at the wake for my parents serving drinks and appetisers, making sure we've got enough food and drink to serve everybody and keeping the place clean and tidy like my mom would want because I know what will happen if I stop moving for even a second. "Ah, ah, hot, it's hot" I groaned in pain as I removed a tray from the oven. Normally, oven gloves help with the heat but for some reason today, mine thought, nah, this girl hasn't suffered enough, so let's cause her some more pain. "Are you ok, sweetheart?" My godmother Evelyn asks me sounding worried. "I'm fine, auntie, my oven gloves decided that they didn't want to cooperate with me today" I said with a huff as I took them off and threw them on the counter. "I think it's more to do with the person than the gloves themselves, sweetie" "Maybe" I said with a sigh as I looked down at the mini quiches on the counter top. "Why don't you go and sit down, Dani? you've been on your feet ever since we came home" "Yeah, there's a reason for that, auntie" "Really? and what reason is that then?" She asked and I looked at her with a sad expression as I tried my hardest to keep my tears at bay. "Because if I stop moving, then I'll think and if I think, then I'll think about them and our memories together and if I do that then I'll cry...and I don't know if I'm strong enough to stop crying just yet, auntie" "It's ok to cry, baby girl" Auntie Evelyn says whilst stroking my hair. "And it's perfectly ok to remember your mom and dad and all of the wonderful memories you all made together, Dani baby" "I know" I say whilst nodding my head. "But it's too soon" I said with a sigh. "I just want to get through today and then I'll deal with everything else tomorrow" "Ok" She says whilst looking at me sadly. "Take your time, baby and remember, there's no time limit on grief" She says and I nod my head as I felt the familiar burn of tears in my eyes. "Excuse me for a second" I said before walking away and heading out of the back door to the garden area. I stood on the veranda and took several deep inhales before slowly releasing them to try and calm myself down and stop the tears from falling. I know that what I'm feeling is perfectly normal and that I should just give in to what I'm feeling because I'll feel so much better when I do but I can't do that right now with so many people around me. I'd rather grieve in private or with Dante there to comfort me, not with a bunch of people I barely know offering me sympathetic smiles as they watch me break down in tears. Speaking of my handsome man, I couldn't resist smiling when I felt his big, strong arms wrap tightly around my waist as he nuzzled his face in my neck. "How are you doing, kitten?" "You do realise that how are you doing? is the same as are you ok? right?" "I know, I just thought I'd jazz it up a bit for you" He says making me chuckle. "Only you could make me laugh at a time like this, Dante" "Good because your smiles and your laughter only belongs to me" Oh good god. I thought to myself with a smile as I rolled my eyes. "You're such a greedy man, Mr DeLuca" "Only for you, my future Mrs DeLuca, you're the only thing that makes me a greedy man and later on tonight, I'll show you just how greedy I can be" He says whilst kissing my neck which made me moan. "Why do you have to be a walking turn on, babe?" "I could ask you the same question, sweetheart" Dante said as he kissed my neck again whilst rubbing his thick, hard c**k against my ass. Some people may think this is inappropriate because we're at my parents funeral and my sexy boyfriend is grinding on me and turning me on but I don't care because it's the only thing that is keeping me sane and upright right now. "You always make me hard just from looking at you, my love" "Well, control yourself, Dante because something tells me that tonight is gonna be a long one" I tell him and he groans before saying something which made my heart fill with warmth. "It's ok, I'll wait as long as it takes, baby" "And what if I'm not in the mood for s*x tonight?" "Then I'll hold you all night long...even when we're fast asleep, I'll hold on tight to you, so that you can feel how much I love you and want you to be ok" He said and I smiled as I felt tears fill my eyes but this time, they were happy tears. "I love you, Dante, I love you so freaking much" "I love you too, kitten, you're my entire world" Dante said whilst kissing my cheek. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Dante...I honestly think I'd be lost if I didn't have you in my life" "Well, it's a good job that I'm not going anywhere, isn't it?" He asked with a cheeky smile which made me chuckle. God, he's so cute. I thought to myself as I cupped his face and kissed his lips. Unfortunately, our kiss didn't last for long when Dante's phone started ringing. He quickly buttoned the call and kissed me, except this time, our kiss was way more heated and intense but his phone started ringing again causing us both to groan. "I'm sorry, kitten, I've got to take this, it's important" "Then take it" Dante seemed conflicted between being there for me and answering his business call, so I made the decision for him. "Hey, what are you..." "Good evening, this Dante DeLuca's phone, how can I help you?" I asked with a smile as Dante looked at me in shock. There was silence on the other end of the phone for a little while before a husky voice answered me and asked me who I was. "My name is Daniella Lopez, sir, I'm Mr DeLuca's assistant, is there something I can help you with?" I ask the man who sounded like he was talking through gritted teeth but he didn't sound angry. After the man told me what he wanted, I then handed the phone back to Dante and told him what he said. "He won't tell me what his name is but he said he needs to talk to you about the Thomas project" I say and Dante sighs. "Sorry babe, this is really important" "It's ok, love" Dante gave me one last kiss before walking away to deal with his call in private. I was standing alone for a good few minutes before he walked back over to me with a solemn and annoyed look on his face. "Is everything ok?" "No, not really, love" He said with a sigh whilst running his hand through his hair which is something he only ever does when he's really stressed out, angry or aggravated. "I had my actual assistant clear my schedule for today, so that I could give you my full and undivided attention but this guy refuses to have his appointment moved" "It's ok, Dante, go and deal with your business, I know how important it is for you" "It is but you're more important" He says causing my heart to almost stop beating. I then stepped closer to Dante and cupped his face with both of my hands and kissed his lips. "Go and deal with your client, babe, just make sure you come back here afterwards, ok" "Ok" He says with a sigh as he kisses my lips. Dante then closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against mine. "How did I get so lucky to have you as my woman?" "I could ask you the same question, sweetheart" I said with a smile which he reciprocated as he kissed me. "I'll be quick, ok, so don't fall asleep on me" "Ok" I said as he gave me another kiss. "I'll text you if I'm gonna run late" He said giving me another kiss making me chuckle. "You should go, babe" "Fine" Dante gives me one last kiss before finally leaving. I felt cold without his touch but I also felt relieved because my heart didn't feel as heavy as it was before which made me feel even more confident that I could get through the next few hours and not break down. "I can do this" I whispered to myself as I headed back inside of the house. The next few hours where very long and tiring but I managed to get through it and I can't even begin to describe the relief I felt when the last guest went home because I knew that it was safe for me to break if I wanted to. After my auntie and uncle left to go back to their own home, I cleaned up the place and had a nice, hot shower before settling down in the living room to look through all of the cards I had received from my parents mourners. It's funny because I thought my parents only had a small close group of friends, so I was only expecting a handful of cards but instead, I received several dozen cards and most of them are from people I've never even heard of. Anyway, I was midway through reading the cards when I came across one with familiar writing on it. The writing isn't familiar familiar like from a close friend or a relative but it's familiar enough for me to know that I saw it once on a stack of letters that I found hidden in my parents closet which had been addressed to me, so I recognised the writing and I knew exactly who had sent it to me. I turned the card over and for a brief second, I hesitated to open it because I was worried about what I would find in it but then I ripped the bandaid off and I was angry at what I found. Inside of the card it said 'To my beautiful daughter Daniella, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother and step-father, words can't describe how much my heart pains for you, my sweet girl and as much as I would love to hold you and take the pain away from you, I know that you're not ready for that just yet but I'll be here when you are ready, hope to see you soon, baby girl, all my love dad, Rumi and kids'. The crazy thing is that this wasn't even the thing that pissed me off, it was the cheque inside of it for half a million dollars. What the hell is wrong with this man?. I growled to myself as I glared at the card like it was my enemy. I then noticed something in the corner which made me smirk evilly as I got up from the couch and headed upstairs to get dressed. I think it's time I go and pay my dear old 'dad' a visit.
