15 SUNSET ON THE HILL It was Merida who made the announcement. ‘Before we have dessert, let’s go watch the sunset.’ There were approving nods from Vera and Carol as they stood. Francois and Simon got up. Fred and Margaret remained seated. As did Richard. ‘I’ve seen plenty of sunsets,’ he said, slurring his speech. ‘Not like the ones you get here,’ Vera said. ‘Come on, up you get.’ She took his arm and gave it a tug. She didn’t let go of his shirt. He was about to yank away his arm when she tightened her grip. Their eyes met.
