‘I’m hoping it’ll work.’ ‘Hopefully they didn’t leave the other one in the lock.’ Ever the voice of optimism. Her theory proved right. One turn and the door opened. Richard shone his torchlight around. ‘Give me that, please.’ He obliged. She urged him to crawl through the doorway first. She followed. Once through, she used the phone torch to re-insert the key and lock the door. Then she stood and pointed the way, shielding the bulk of the glare with her hand and only allowing enough light to guide their way. ‘Hurry, we don’t have much time.’ He was close behind her. She directed the light and steadied Richard as he stepped over the threshold and entered the attic room. Then she guided him through to the tower. ‘Where are they?’ he said. ‘That’s what we are about to find out.’ ‘W
