Desi walked down the long hallway, her steps echoing off the marble floors. She was heading toward the kitchen, craving coffee to push through the exhaustion. As she turned the corner, she nearly bumped into a man—tall, broad, and covered in tattoos. “Watch it,” he growled, glaring down at her. Desi stepped back, her heart racing. “I didn’t see you.” The man didn’t respond. He just stared at her for a long moment, his eyes cold and calculating. Desi felt a chill run down her spine. Something about him made her uneasy. Before she could say anything else, another man approached. He was shorter, but just as intimidating, with a scar running down the side of his face. “Leave her alone, Gregor,” he said, his voice low but firm.
