WHEN THE WHITE WOLF AWAKENSHe rejected her. The moon chose her.The night Alpha Kael Draven rejected me before his entire kingdom, I thought the worst thing that could happen to me was losing the man I had secretly loved for years.I was wrong. The moment he shattered our bond, the moon turned black.Every wolf in the kingdom fell to its knees.Every wolf except me.And then a voice whispered inside my head.At last, little moon. You have awakened.I don't know what those words mean. I don't know why the elders look at me as though I am a nightmare they prayed would never return. All I know is that something ancient is stirring beneath my skin, something that even the most powerful Alpha in the Northern Territories is afraid to face.Kael claims my existence threatens his throne. Yet when he looks at me, I see something he cannot hide behind his cold expression.Fear.And I intend to discover why.But the palace has become a prison, the forest whispers secrets I cannot understand, and strange marks are appearing on my body. Someone has begun leaving warnings where only I can find them. Someone knows what I am becoming. And someone wants to make certain I never discover the truth. Then there is the voice. It comes when I am alone. It speaks of forgotten sins, buried secrets, and a past that should not belong to me.Its warnings are always the same.Trust neither of them.Neither of whom? The Alpha who rejected me?Or the mysterious man whose arrival will turn my already broken world into something far more dangerous?I have spent my entire life being treated as though I am nothing. An orphan without a name worth remembering. A girl who should be grateful for whatever scraps of kindness she receives. But what if everything I have ever believed about myself is a lie? What if Kael did not reject me because I was unworthy of him, but because he knew exactly what accepting me would unleash? And what if the creature awakening inside me is not the monster everyone fears, but the only thing standing between this kingdom and its destruction?I wanted answers.I wanted freedom. And once, foolishly, I wanted Kael. Now, I want the truth.Even if it destroys the man I once dreamed of loving.Even if the truth reveals that the stranger who watches me from the shadows knows more about my soul than I know about my own.Because beneath the blood, the lies, and the ancient laws of the werewolf kingdom, something is waiting for me.Something that has waited for centuries. And when it finally reveals why I was born, why I was hidden, and why the moon chose the very night of my rejection to awaken—I fear the entire kingdom will wish I had never opened my eyes.

The Alpha's Rejection
CHAPTER ONE: THE ALPHA'S REJECTION The night Alpha Kael Draven rejected me, the moon disappeared. Not behind the clouds. Not behind the mountains. It vanished from the heavens as though some ancient power had reached into the sky and torn it away. But that happened after he destroyed me. Before the darkness came, I was still foolish enough to believe that the man standing before me would be the one to save me. I was wrong. The entire kingdom of Varethis had gathered in the Moon Court to witness the ceremony. Hundreds of werewolves stood beneath towering black pillars, their silver ceremonial robes shimmering beneath the pale moonlight. Ancient runes glowed across the marble floor, marking the place where an Alpha was expected to acknowledge his destined mate. I stood at the centre of them all. Alone. My hands trembled beneath the sleeves of my ivory gown. I kept them clasped together, determined not to let the watching crowd see my fear. Tonight was supposed to change my life. Every werewolf knew the significance of the twenty-first birthday. It was the age when the bond between destined mates could reveal itself fully. Some discovered their partners through a touch. Others recognised them through scent, instinct, or the awakening of their wolves. For me, there had been nothing. Until Kael Draven entered the Moon Court. The moment he crossed the threshold, something inside my chest had stirred. My breath caught. My heart had stumbled. And for one impossible moment, I had felt as though a thousand invisible threads had drawn tight between us. The Alpha had stopped walking. His dark eyes had found mine across the crowded hall. Then he had looked away. I told myself I had imagined it. I told myself that the cold expression on his face meant nothing. After all, Kael Draven was the most powerful Alpha in the Northern Territories. His name commanded obedience from rival packs, and even the oldest warriors lowered their eyes when he passed. He was not a man who revealed his feelings. But I had spent years secretly wondering what it would be like if he ever looked at me as something more than the orphan who had been permitted to grow up within his kingdom. Now he stood before me, dressed in black ceremonial armour, his silver Alpha crest resting against his chest. He was beautiful in the way a drawn sword was beautiful. Magnificent. Cold. Dangerous. "Elara Voss." My name echoed through the silent court. I lifted my chin. "My Alpha." A faint murmur passed through the gathering. Kael's expression hardened. "Do you understand why you have been summoned here?" "Yes." "Then you understand what the Moon Bond signifies." I swallowed. "Yes, my Alpha." "Look at me." I did. For a moment, something flickered in his eyes. It was so brief that I might have mistaken it for anger. Then he stepped closer. The crowd fell silent. "I, Kael Draven, Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack and sovereign of the Northern Territories, reject you, Elara Voss, as my destined mate." The words struck harder than any physical blow. I stared at him. For a moment, I genuinely could not understand what I had heard. Reject. The word belonged to stories whispered by frightened children and women who never spoke of their lost mates. It was a word that could shatter the bond between two destined souls, leaving one or both to endure the consequences. I had heard of rejection. I had never imagined standing on the receiving end of it. "Kael..." His name escaped my lips before I could stop myself. His jaw tightened. "Do not address me by my name." A murmur rippled through the court. My face burned. I tried to breathe, but the air seemed to have thickened around me. "Have I offended you?" I whispered. "No." "Then why?" His gaze remained merciless. "Because I will not bind myself to a woman whose existence threatens my throne." The words were so unexpected that I forgot, for one terrible second, how to breathe. "My existence?" "You heard me." "I have done nothing against your kingdom." "You need not have done anything." His voice lowered. "Some things are dangerous simply because they exist." I searched his face for a trace of hesitation. A c***k in his composure. Anything that might tell me this was a cruel performance, that he would dismiss the watching crowd and explain himself when we were alone. There was nothing. Only the Alpha of Blackthorn, standing before his people and making certain they understood that I meant nothing to him. My eyes burned. I refused to cry. Not here. Not before him. "Is this your final decision?" I asked. Kael's fingers curled at his sides. For the briefest moment, his gaze dropped to my throat, where the faintest silver line had appeared beneath my skin. His expression changed. It was not pity. It was fear. Then it vanished. "My decision is final." The bond inside me snapped. Pain tore through my chest. I staggered, catching myself before my knees struck the marble. A strangled sound escaped my throat, and the crowd recoiled as if my suffering were contagious. Somewhere deep within me, something howled. Not a wolf. Something older. Something that had been sleeping for so long that I had never known it existed. The pain vanished almost as quickly as it came. I pressed a trembling hand against my chest. "What was that?" I whispered. Kael had gone deathly still. His eyes were fixed on me. For one heartbeat, neither of us moved. Then he turned away. "Remove her from the court." Two guards approached. I stepped back before they could touch me. "I can walk." My voice sounded unfamiliar. Small, perhaps, but steady enough to surprise even me. I looked at the man who had just shattered my future. "I hope you never have to feel what you have made me feel tonight." Something dark moved across Kael's face. But he said nothing. I turned and walked away. Every step felt like a piece of my old life breaking beneath my feet. I had almost reached the enormous bronze doors when a woman's voice rose from the crowd. "Look at the moon!" Everyone turned. Through the high windows, the full moon had begun to darken. A thin black shadow spread across its silver surface. The court erupted into whispers. Elders exchanged frightened glances. Warriors reached instinctively for their weapons. Somewhere near the throne, an ancient priestess began murmuring words from a language that had not been spoken in centuries. Then the moon turned completely black. Every flame in the court went out. Screams filled the darkness. I froze beside the doors. Something warm trickled down my wrist. I looked down. A thin line of silver light glowed beneath my skin, beginning at my palm and winding toward my elbow like a living vein. It pulsed once. The entire palace shook. And from somewhere deep beneath the kingdom, a sound rose through the stone. A howl. Long. Grieving. Furious. Every wolf in the court dropped to its knees. Every wolf except me. I stood motionless, staring at the silver light spreading across my arm. Then a voice whispered inside my mind. At last. I stopped breathing. At last, little moon. You have awakened. The darkness lifted. The moon returned to the sky, pale and beautiful as before. But the kingdom had changed. I knew it from the terrified faces surrounding me. I knew it from the way the elders stared at my arm. And I knew it from the man standing on the dais. For the first time since I had known him, Alpha Kael Draven looked afraid. Not of an enemy. Not of a rival Alpha. Of me. An elderly priestess fell to her knees. Her lips trembled as she spoke the words that would haunt the kingdom for generations. "The White Wolf has awakened." Kael descended the steps slowly, never taking his eyes from me. "No one leaves this palace," he commanded. "Seal every gate. Send riders to the border. And summon the High Council." His gaze met mine. "Now." But before his warriors could obey, another voice came from the shadows beside the western archway. "Careful, Alpha." A tall man stepped into the moonlight. He wore no ceremonial armour, only a dark travelling cloak fastened at the throat with an unfamiliar silver insignia. His black hair fell across his forehead, and a thin scar traced the edge of his jaw. I had never seen him before. Yet when his eyes met mine, the strange mark beneath my skin stirred. He looked at the silver light on my arm. Then he smiled without humour. "You have just rejected the one woman in this kingdom you should have been praying would never awaken." Kael's expression turned murderous. "Ronan Ashford." The stranger inclined his head. "Alpha." "Why are you here?" Ronan ignored him. His attention remained on me, and something in his gaze made my heart beat faster—not with the aching desperation I had felt for Kael, but with a different, more unsettling awareness. Recognition. As though he had been searching for me long before I knew I existed. He extended his hand. "Come with me, Elara." Kael moved between us. "Touch her, and I will tear your throat out." Ronan's smile disappeared. "And if you touch her again, Kael, you may discover that the Moon has already chosen which of you it intends to destroy." The two men stared at each other. One was the Alpha who had rejected me before his entire kingdom. The other was a stranger who spoke as though he knew the secret hidden inside my blood. And I stood between them, my arm glowing beneath the moonlight, with no understanding of why the entire supernatural world suddenly seemed terrified of me. Then the voice inside my mind whispered again. Trust neither of them. A pause. One will betray you. Another pause. The other will die for you. I looked from Kael to Ronan. And for the first time that night, I was no longer afraid of being rejected. I was afraid of what would happen when I discovered who I truly was.
