Screaming.

The sound of a knife chopping continuously against a board, sliding across it momentarily. The aroma of a boiling sizzling stew, while a woman talks absently from the tv.

A woman hums as she's chopping, a bird singing nearby to her voice. The kettle let's out a high shriek,

"MUM!!! MUM PLEASE!"

The screams were silent.

~ First Night ~
EXPLODE. That's probably the first thing that caught her interest; the white flash across the sky, the fiery whip dashing towards the earth and cracking like breaking glass. While thousands to millions of raindrops struck the windows of the vehicle, the wipers brushing them off every few seconds. She could feel the gloaming coolness run up her backbone, shuddering back against the chair and into her coat. She looked over as her husband drummed his fingers lightly against the wheel, she glanced up at the mirror reflecting her daughter fast asleep on the back seats. Squealing tires woke the girl from her trance reigniting her vigorous distress, her heart darted to her throat; it took mere seconds for her to be entirely consumed by the voices in her head, shrieking to all her nerves to stop the car. "Kyle stop the car." He glanced over at her. "What?" "Stop the car!" "Sophie it's just a drizzle, no big deal." She interrupted him, "KYLE PLEASE STOP THE GODDAMN CAR!" The girl in the backseat of the car stirred from her slumber; unaware of the screeching tires, unconscious of her mothers screaming...All up until she had her legs sprawled across the chairs and felt billions of glass shards underneath her, she groaned as she sat up. Her mother was bent over the dashboard, her fathers head was tilted back and unresponsive to her shaking his arm. She then saw the way her father's leg was distorted out of place and smothered with a dark crimson coat that glittered with the little light it was exposed to like droplets of rubies, the coat growing and sliding down his leg growing darker as it did. In a panic, she grabbed her now cracked-screened phone and managed to make a call. "Hello, 999 what's your emergency?" "My mum and dad have had a car crash, my dad's leg is trapped and bleeding real bad! My mum won't wake up," she coughed over her words as tears escaped her eyes. "I'm so scared, what do i do!?" "Please Miss calm down and look around, do you know where you are?" "No!" She glanced around quickly then continued, "We were on our way to our new house but now we're in a-a forest I think." The woman on the other end started to talk, advising to put pressure on the wound after bandaging it with her jumper before she could say anything else the line went dead. She almost swore, making a promise never to drain the battery by playing games on her phone in the car ever again. Immediately she reached over for her mom's phone but found it wouldn't light up no matter how hard she pressed the unlock button, she let out a short scream chucking her mom's phone into the backseat starting to sink her nails in her arms coughing and sniffling. Despite not knowing what time it was she felt like it was hours since the call, that's when she heard the distant wailing of sirens. She crawled to the window and with rising hope climbed out the car to meet the closing in sirens. Within moments hands held up the family, bringing them to the emergency van. All around her chatter was buzzing, feet and splashing rain. Although it took every ounce of her to push it to the back of her mind she managed to answer one question. "My name is Leah Hyde."
