WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMON.
Chapter four
Woke up later hearing distant chattering of people and laughter which annoyed me. I got out of bed and went to check what was going on. There's that sport car guy, Kwenzo with his friends, I'm confused what is he doing here. Why am I still here also. They are all watching soccer and drinking beer and having fun but they are making so much noise..
“And who's this lady?” one of his friends spots me
Kwenzo turns his head to look and he looked stunned, his eyebrows lift up
“Not even a year K!” his friend says looking at Kwenzo
Kwenzo clears his throat. Before getting up and walks to me
“Nqaba didn't tell me about this” He says
About... What
“oh I'm sorry, I'll be leaving tomorrow morning” I say
“No I'm not saying it in a bad way. I'm just shocked, he didn't tell me about this” he says
“That's your bodyguard?” I ask referring to Nqaba
He nods
“He's more like my half man.” he says
“Well okay, but if you don't mind can you and your friends lower the volume...thank you” I say walking away back to the bed room..
I didn't even sleep, I searched for my phone to call my mother and ask about Nkanyiso I miss him. Unlucky because I never found it...
..
Next morning, I didn't even bath I borrowed Kwenzo's phone to call Swazi. I needed her to come and fetch me..i didn't even eat breakfast or anything, not long Swazi arrived to pick me up then drove to her house.
“Don't judge me” I say shutting the door and walk in the house following her
“I didn't even say anything” she says
“I know you want to ask how did I end up in that guy's house I don't know too. My house was on fire though” I explain
She looks at me bored, she sighs dropping her shoulders
“Sindi, you stress me sometimes.” she says putting the car keys on the counter and walks to the fridge and pull out debonair pizza box..
Im hungry ke manje.
“What makes you say that?” I ask
“Just explain to me what exactly happened to you yesterday?” she questions
I take a deep breath
“I admit, I was supposed to be at my son's presentation but I just felt tired and luckily my mother showed up” I say
“You know thats not what I'm asking for” she says
“I dropped Nkanyiso off at his school for his sport car presentation and the car we borrowed from that guy you saw in that house. I got in my house and just downed my red wine I gulped the whole bottle, I wanted to make some food because I felt hungry too. I turned on the stove and left it like that waiting for the oil in the pan to hit up but then I fell asleep...and you know what happened next” I explain
“and so some guy came to save the day?” she asks
“Kind of. Man, I just feel awful talking about this.” I say
“You're still trying to kill yourself” she says
“Swazi! No of course not. I have a whole son to look after now” I say
“You're realizing that now?” she asks
“Let's not talk about this” I say looking away
...
Ate pizza for breakfast then I went to shower, wore one of Swazi's dress. Then she dropped me off at my parents house, Nkanyiso came running to hug me. I kissed his forehead and tickled his armpits he giggled, I grabbed him up to the house. I found my mother cleaning.. My father in the dining room they've just finished having breakfast.
“Greetings to the Nxumalo family” I say as I walk further in putting Nkanyiso down
My father lowers his newspaper and stare at me then smiles.
“Ntombi kababa” he got up and came to hug me
I hugged him back
“Unjani? (how are you?)” he asks
“Ngiyaphila(I'm good) wena(yourself?)” I ask
He smiles and kiss my forehead, he seems very happy to see me.
“Awuzanga kwipresentation yomntana wakho(you didn't come to your son's presentation)” My mother says
I look at her me and dad pull apart.
“I was busy” a lie, I just won't explain myself
She puts the dish cloth down and looks at me
“Sindi, you couldn't even show up ke.” she says
“You're the one that brought him to school, why weren't you there?” she asks
“Ma I am going through a lot right now and I can't have this with you” I say
“You always go through a lot. Umntana wakho lona Sindisiwe, you were supposed to be there!” she raises her voice
“I can't raise my child while I am breaking down mama.” I say
“You haven't healed? Sindisiwe why won't you listen to me” my mother being my mother
I don't want to tear up and looking at my father he knows he can't do anything about it.
“Awuyeke Ingane Khosi. Kanti yini inkinga?” my father intervenes
“Angikhulumi Nawe Nxumalo awuyibambe lapho” my mother says..
This is too much I didn't come here to fight with them. Just as I was about to walk away, Someone walks in and it's Manzini, this time I really tried staying strong neh. Nkanyiso ran to him and hugged him, I felt disgusted, I wanted to pull Nkanyiso away but my mother held my hand. My heart start racing again.
“Sanibona” he greets
Only my mother responded, my father even stood by me. Manzini scouped Nkanyiso up in his arms and swing him around, i feared for my baby's life what if he drops him and he gets hurt, I crossed my fingers
“What a surprise!” My mother says welcoming him
Manzini walks in and looks at me with a smile, I didn't understand his smile. I felt my tummy hurt and felt nauseated, i rushed to the bathroom and let it all out. I washed my face and mouth, It took me a while for me to walk out and face him again. I have to pretend and plus the looks my mother gave me.
“Sindisiwe, you're here. I didn't think you were going to come” he says
“It's my home” I respond
“I see. Usamuhle yazi(you're still beautiful)” he says
I look away, forced a smile. I hate this, I walk away to my bedroom and I just sat on the bed. Breathing out loud, refusing to let this get into my head, lord!. The door creaked open and Manzini walks in. I stood up same time fixing my dress I swallowed hard
“Cela sibuyelane” he looks into my eyes
I don't trust him, and I will never get back with him.
“Cha” I respond
“I know I did you wrongfully wrong but everyone deserves a second chance” he says walking slowly toward me
I hate his smell, his pants and shirt. I just hate everything about this man..
“Wrongfully wrong is not the right word. You know what you did to me, you know the pain I have been through” I say
“You're monster Manzini, you're the devil himself” I yell
I could see his facial expression change, he clenched his Jaws. He grabbed my throat and pressed on it, I gasped.
“Don't ever call me by that. Ever again! Uyangizwa?” he whispered in my ear
For that second I felt my body become weak, I closed my eyes and said he's about to do it again.
“Uyangizwa na?” He still whispered
His breath made my body irk, the goosebumps created by fear. He strangled me then slapped me countless times
“Yebo” til I responded
He stopped and let go of me, he gave me that one ugly look before turning and walking away. I dropped on the floor and cried in my arms, I cried so much. He always find a way to make me feel vulnerable, he just did it, I felt useless in so many ways. I didn't fight back, which tells him I'm still weak I never changed. My mother said he has changed but I don't think so.
“Mommy” Nkanyiso's voice while knock on the door
“Mommy are you crying?” he asks
I lift my head up and just stared at the door. There's no way I will respond to that because I'm still crying
“Can I come in?” he asks so calmly and sweet
I wnnt him to come but I won't let him see me this hurt right now. I quickly get up and went to fix myself in the bathroom I came back and opened the door and forced a smile.
“Im good” I respond
He drops his shoulders and sigh relieved
“What took you so long!?” he asks
Him and his smart mouth. Wow.
“nothing” I respond..
“Okay.. Can we go home now? I don't like how gogo speaks to you” he says
My son is a sweetheart.
“We can't go home now. I'm renovating somethings maybe tomorrow” I say
He nods
“I want to stay by your side. I don't want gogo around you because she seems to be hurting your feelings everytime” he says
“What makes you say that?” I ask
“Your eyes tell me that it's true” he says
Smart mouth!.
“That's not true. I'm fine” I respond trying to convince him
But he just looks at me boredly.
“Let's go visit Aunt'Swazi” I say
“Actually dad invited me over to watch soccer” he says.
No! No! I can't allow that.
“You can watch soccer with me. You don't need your father” I say
“You're not a boy ma. You don't understand anything about it” he says
That's true but ij just can't let that man take him from me.
“Nk—” He walks away to his father
I'm crying inside...
“Let him go Sindi. Stop stressing he won't hurt him” My mother says..
I swallowed my pride & anger just sat down and couldn't even help to think about the things they are going to do. It's stressing me I called Swazi to come fetch me, I need someone to talk to.
