Chapter 1: The Wedding That Never Happened
The church was filled with white roses and broken promises.
I stood at the altar, my hands trembling inside the delicate lace of my wedding gown. The clock on the wall ticked loudly, each second mocking me.
Thirty minutes late.
My phone buzzed for the fifth time. No calls. No messages.
“Where are you, Daniel?” I whispered, forcing a smile as guests turned to look at me with pity disguised as curiosity.
My mother squeezed my hand. “He’ll come,” she said, but her voice lacked confidence.
Then the church doors opened.
Hope surged in my chest—only to die the next second.
It wasn’t Daniel.
It was his younger brother.
He walked toward me slowly, his face pale, eyes heavy with guilt. I already knew something was wrong before he opened his mouth.
“He’s not coming,” he said quietly.
The world tilted.
“What do you mean he’s not coming?” My voice cracked, the words barely leaving my lips.
“He left the city last night.”
Gasps filled the church. My knees weakened as the truth crushed me.
Left. No explanation.
No goodbye.
No wedding.
Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to cry in front of everyone who had come to celebrate a love that never existed.
That day, I learned one painful truth—
Love could disappear without warning.
And three years later, the man who destroyed me would return… asking me to be his wife.
