Emotionless and Motionless

430 Words
As Alexander and Asa stood in the hallway, their conversation grew more intense by the second. The tension between them was palpable. Suddenly, and without warning, Alexander leaned in and kissed Asa. She was taken aback by the suddenness of it all. Her eyes widened in shock as Alexander's hands found her waist, pulling her closer. Meanwhile, Maria, who had been standing nearby, quickly turned and ran away, unable to process what she had just witnessed. Asa wiped her lips with the back of her hand, disgusted by the kiss. Her heart was pounding, and her mind was racing with confusion. "What was that for?" she asked, trying to make sense of what had just happened. "It just felt right," Alexander replied, his eyes still locked on hers. Asa couldn't believe what she was hearing. "How can a kiss 'feel right' when it's unwanted?" she asked, looking at him like he was a complete stranger. Alexander's demeanor changed, and his tone grew serious. "You need to be grateful," he said, his stare intense. Asa was confused. "Grateful for what?" she asked, searching for answers. Alexander didn't respond, but his silence spoke volumes. Their conversation was interrupted by a maid who rushed into the hallway, out of breath. "I am sorry, my lord, but there has been an incident in the kitchen," she said, struggling to catch her breath. "A maid has been found unconscious." Without hesitation, Alexander and Asa followed the maid to the kitchen. As they arrived, they saw Mrs. Wilderbeth, the head cook, standing in the center of the room with a wooden spoon in her hand. She looked shocked to the core. Asa and Alexander exchanged a worried glance, wondering what had happened. Their hearts were racing, and they couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over them. They noticed the maid lying on the floor, motionless, as if she had been struck on the head. Mrs. Wilderbeth, who was standing nearby, appeared to be in shock. She was looking at the spoon in her hand and then back at the maid, trying to make sense of what had happened. Alexander quickly rushed to the maid's side to check her pulse. It was weak but steady, indicating that she was still alive. Mrs. Wilderbeth, who was known for her stoic demeanor, was now visibly shaken and struggling to compose herself. She denied any involvement in the incident, saying "I didn't do anything," as a tear rolled down her cheek. Despite her protests, it was clear that she was deeply affected by what had just transpired.
