Chapter 7

439 Words
Three days have gone by in this stinking rotten cell. I’m getting anxious to see the bright blue sky again and the sea. Aww the sea how I love the smell of the ocean and the crisp wind on my face. My cell door opens, only for a hunched old hag to enter with Michel and Dyce. What do they want now? The hag came right up to me, invading my personal space. She quickly yanks a piece of my hair out and dunks it in a jar she had hidden in her robes. She’s looking at me intently, analyzing me, seizing me up. I stand as best I can but I am chained to the wall. At least I still want them to think I am. Such fools they were in thinking they could keep me chained up. Suddenly, my hair in the jar turns purple and begins to smoke. The hag gasps and starts to chant something about me being the sea. How on earth am I the sea? The queen faints and Dyce carries her out. The hag soon leaves as well. Dyce comes back and unshackles me from the wall. I am free and it’s time for me to make my move. Dyce leads me out of the cell. Where’s he taking me? To the gallows? He ushers me up the stairs and into a great hall. The smell of horses and manure wafted up through the open windows. I hear barking. Cinder! I let out a soft whistle and was soon answered with a sharp bark, letting me know he was ready for me to make my escape. Yes, here’s my chance. Quickly, I let the shackles fall. Dyce notices the slacking feeling on the chains and turns, only to catch a glimpse of Mysteri diving out the small window. Dyce runs to peek out the window, only to see Mysteri landing perfectly on the back of a strange black and white horse with her dog running at its feet. She takes off through the open gate and out to freedom. She’s heading towards the White Cap mountains. The fates live up there protected by their Snow Wolves. Does she know what she is getting herself into? “Your Highness, the prisoner, she’s escaped!” panted Dyce as he barged into the Queens private room. A look of shock and horror crossed her face. “Where is she headed?” “She’s headed towards the White Cap Mountains, majesty.” “Follow her and bring her back to me. She is a part of this prophecy. The Witch says she is the sea.”
