Prologue
Seagulls squawk overhead, stirred up by the commotion at the shipping port. Today is the day Princess Illoh had been waiting for. It was a day for an adventure to begin out at sea. All of her life, she had been waiting for the day she could leave the castle walls that held her prisoner. Illoh was second in line to the throne, so her duties consisted of being a diplomat to the foreign countries that had close contact with her home of Pearl Shores. This was her first call of duty that would take her into uncharted territory. Illoh’s sister, Nibor was destined to be the next Queen. Nibor was to stay back at the palace and finish her royal training, while Illoh went on her way to cross the open ocean in hopes of starting a negotiation with the pesky pirates that plagued the ships' trade route from Pearl Shores to Calansiea. “Are you all ready to take off, Princess?” asked Captain Gull. “Yes sir, I am more than ready to set sail. I have dreamed of the day when I was to see the crystal beauty of the open sea.” “Well miss, you’d be best to experience its beauty from the crow’s nest if ye can manage the height and climb.” Captain Gull sneered, for he was none too pleased to be having a woman on board his ship, for they were curses. Every good ship mate knew the risk they ran of allowing a female to sail the seas with them. No ship had made it back to the port that housed a woman. Gull was hoping to be the exception. “Where’s this crow’s nest and we shall see,” for Illoh was not scared of much and she was not going to be bullied around by a mangy Captain such as the likes of Gull. His answer was to point straight up to the very highest point on the biggest mast in the middle of the ship. On top of this sail mast was a creaky old platform tied together with a few strings that the crew insisted on calling ropes. “Alrighty then, I am on my way up,” and up the Princess went. With this simple act, Illoh had inspired a new found respect in Captain Gull and his crew, although they would never admit it. This voyage was to last until they found the Pirates they were looking for. No ordinary Pirate ship would do, for the Princess was looking for the Pirate King, the one who all other pirates feared above all else. This Pirate’s ship was named Cymopoleia, after the daughter of Poseidon and goddess of giant storm waves. The Captain was none other than the famous Cryg.
