Three Months Later

“Something’s not right here my lady” said Gull, “I feel it in me bones. We must not waste time on this coral island or we risk being trapped for good on the hidden reef.” “Oh nonsense, we need more supplies so we will take all the time we need.” said Princess Illoh as she sauntered off to get ready to leave the ship for her first time in months. “No you don’t missy. You are to stay on board this ship and let my men find new food. The Queen will have my hide if I let something happen to her diplomat.” “Fine,” and off stalked Illoh up to the crow’s nest, for that had become her customary spot to be. With the sun high in the sky and the perfect sea breeze, the Princess was soon beginning to doze off. “Well, well, well, who do we have here?” said a mysterious voice from down below. Illoh sat bolt upright in a state of shock and confusion, only to see a man with mischievous eyes and a very sly smile staring up at her. His hair was the color of sand and was cropped very short. He was dressed in cutoff shorts that had seen better days, but he also wore a coat with brass buttons. As she continued to stare at him, Illoh could see his past flash before her eyes. Just as suddenly, his future did as well. His past consisted of gory battles and jail cells. His future, though, was filled with grey smoke, flames, and a baby’s laughter. Who was this strange man and where did he come from? Captain Cryg was thinking the same thing about the strange women in the crow’s nest. She had curly hair that was a deep red, with eyes that made you feel paralyzed, because one was brown and the other green. As she stood up from her resting position, Cryg could tell that she was tall and proud and had a noble air about her. She was by far the prettiest woman he had ever seen. “Well, are you going to answer me willingly or do I have to make you?” said Cryg as he pointed to Captain Gull and his crew tied to a mast with swords at their throats. “I’m Princess Illoh of Pearl Shores” she said with a sparkle, “and who are you?” Aha, now that explains the noble air, she was a princess. “I, my dear Princess, am none other than Captain Cryg of the Cymopoleia.” She had found him at last, or rather he had found her, but either way, negotiations could begin.
