Chapter 2

687 Words
Inside the castle, it was dark and musky. The old hag that insisted on calling herself a Witch was beginning to start her reading of the new Queen's future. The Queen was the daughter of Nibor and her name was Michel. She had brown hair that had a slight wave about it and it hung over her shoulders. Her eyes were small blue orbs. She was tall and had never ending legs. Michel’s mother had warned her about pirates and witches, but she was still fascinated by them, but also very fearful. They could not be trusted after all. This Witch was the royal palace witch to interpret prophecies and legends. She was the hag that talked about a Pirate Princess that was destined to rule. Today Queen Michel was to find out whom and when this Pirate was to make her move to her throne. Michel hated the smell of the musk the old witch used in order to communicate with the spirits. As she sat down at the table, the old witch took out her magic orb and began her chant, “Look into my crystal ball and you will see the eyes of the one you seek.” So Michel looked and what she saw was a pair of dazzling green eyes that were sharp and cunning, yet they had a softness hidden deep within. Who was this woman that dared challenge her to the throne, she wondered. “What’s her name?” she asked the witch. “It’s Mysteri,” the witch replied in a dazed tone. “How will she try to steal my throne?” “That I cannot tell you, for a lot of mystery surrounds this ferocious female.” When, all of a sudden, the Witch's eyes glaze over in a fog and she begins to speak in a strange undead type of voice. The room turned cold as ice. “She rides in the dark and the light. By her side is a castaway too. It will take two to run this kingdom; one will balance out the other. The sea and land must learn to rule as one. Both fates balance on the edge of an arrow tip. If one falls, so shall the kingdom and the other. The sea must help the land find her darkness, while the land must teach the sea her light. Dark forces monitor the seas’ fate. She can feel their interference but she does not know it is them. Her eyes must see and her heart must be unlocked from where it remains chained. She is of royal blood but also of a thief’s make, trained to be the most ruthless. The other is also of the royal line but lacks her rightful airs.” Snapping out of her reverie, the Witch looks at the Queen in a daze. “That is all I know your royal highness. The spirits know no more.” How intriguing, but what does all this mean? What do land and sea have to do with pirates and her throne? Slowly, Michel rose from her chair in front of the hag. “When will all of this be set in motion?” “It has already begun! In a week’s time, she will come home and land at last”, the Witch says as she gets escorted out by the Queen's Captain of the Guard. After escorting the Witch off of the palace grounds, Captain of the Royal Guard Dyce finds the Queen in her dressing room. He knocks before entering. “Come in” said a voice inside. “Your highness” he says as he bows. “Is there anything I can get you?” “I need double the lookout on all points of entry into the castle. And anyone who looks remotely like a pirate must come to see me for questioning,” Michel commanded. Dyce raises his eyebrows in question at this last part but doesn’t say anything. As he turns on his heel to leave, he hears the queen muttering to herself about loony old hags who know nothing.
