1- Zen
Things in my life got a little weird a few weeks ago. When I had invited someone, I once viewed as my very own enemy to not only join my coven but also become my roommate. Why? Because I felt sorry for her and admittedly I was worried about the girl. It was... an interesting reunion you see, she'd come in and well...
A few weeks ago
“Well, well, if it isn’t the little white witch who ruined my life.” I smirked.
Lilah looked over at me, I could see the shock slowly etching itself into her features.
“Zen.”
“Lily.”
“Lilah.”
“Didn't I say that?” I waved over the bartender, "Callum, can I get a whiskey and another round of whatever she’s having.”
The cute bartender nodded and began prepping their drinks. He was decent eye candy and that was exactly why I liked him being here.
“What are you doing out here all by your lonesome? I was certain you would have had Mick trapped in a marriage with you by now; that is why you killed our relationship isn’t it? “
Lilah shrugged her shoulders, and I could feel the annoyance rising in me.
“I was young and stupid, and he never liked me. I’m sorry.” Lilah whispered. “I was dumb and should know better. I’ve never had much luck with men. It’s a surprise I haven’t switched sides.” Lilah then laughed.
I sat quietly and shook my head, "He liked you. I don’t know why things never moved forward with y’all but he liked you. The way he looked after a mission with you or training you it was almost as if he woke up out of a long slumber and had been rejuvenated. Annoying really, but it was a case of wrong place and wrong time.”
Lilah didn’t respond. I wanted her to but I wasn't going to press that topic. Mick was a cancer, all that came from him was a long-lasting line of bad memories and heart ache and for me... well I didn't want to even start thinking about that.
“You never answered why you’re here...alone. A pretty young witch like you, I’m surprised you don’t have men stalking you.” I asked her again.
“I’m alone. that’s all, no family, no friends, nobody.” Lilah drank down the rest of her tequila as I reached forward and lifted the black streak in Lilah's hair.
This was new even for her. If I remembered correctly, this did have some connection to her magic, didn't it? It seemed like some witches had this happen when they used their powers. Amethyst was one of the more recent witches I had met that had that issue. Her hair turning blue when she used her magic.
“That’s new. Loneliness brings out the worst in people though—and sometimes the best. Tell you what, do you have a place to stay?” I asked her, cautiously.
Lilah shook her head at me, and I smiled. It was small but it was genuine, whether she accepted that or not. “You can stay with me till you get back on your feet. No goody goody business though got it? “
Lilah stared at me like she almost didn't trust my words. Like she was trying to find the catch or the lie in what I had said but when nothing more was said she slowly nodded her head still staring at me skeptically.
Maybe I was just drunk. That could've been why I did that, why I chose to let her back into my life. Why I thought that giving Lilah another chance was a good idea, but I did it anyway and now here I was. New roommate and all...
I honestly couldn't believe that I had gone and done that. That I had invited little miss perfect to stay with me, but I had. In the last year or so my coven - The Eclipse Coven had become it's very own safe haven of sorts for witches. Regardless of what their alliance was.
Granted we were known for being strictly dark magic users normally, I made acceptations. The last two years saw hunters coming out form everywhere and utilizing their newfound formula for finding witches and killing them. It never really helped that most coven bars allowed humans to come in and just chill out among the ranks but that was probably because it helped fund us as well.
Most bars in fact for the supernatural had recently started segregating and allowing only their own kind to come into their establishments with the exception of witches. Why was that? Well, it was simple really, humans - the majority of them at least - tended to favor the Wiccan and Pagan lifestyles. Of course, there were still a few of those who were also against it.
However no matter what, one fact still did remain:
Humans were hunters and Eclipse was the only coven that required you to be a witch in order to enter it. At least the bar did, the resturant however...
The bar though, it did have a barrier put up that only witches could see and enter into. I had the restaurant opened up to everyone because I needed those funds. I needed the help to keep this place afloat.
When I had seen Lilah walk into my bar, she looked so hopeless and so lost. I had to admit that I did soften up some over the last several years that followed me losing Mick. I had tried reaching out to him a few times after one of my own witches had been beheaded and left at the doorstep of my restaurant. That's why that barrier stood where it did now.
“Lilah, let’s go!” I called out, reaching for my keys.
“But I don’t want to go to your coven meeting.” She whined loudly; "I was watching reruns of 90210.”
“If you’re going to stay with me that means you’ll have to go to coven meetings with me.” I shrugged.
Lilah rolled her eyes at that and slowly drug herself up from the black leather couch. Satoshi rubbed against my leg, and I pet his head.
Satoshi who had once been my familiar and lover had been cursed by one of my sisters, McKenna. McKenna trapped Satoshi in his panther form after trying to cause a riot in our coven. My punishment had been fierce, I used a spell to bind Mckenna’s black magic abilities. I didn't regret it.
Lilah trudged down the stairs and we started to make our way to the Eclipse Bar and Grill. Once we got inside, Lilah sat in the corner and pulled out one of her fluffy romance novels.
I rolled my eyes at her. The witches that were being protected had all meshed into different cliques. The grays sat with one another, white witches shared a table and then the dark witches — my coven sisters sat in the front as if claiming their territory.
Heavy was the head that wore the crown. It was annoying having to build bridges between different types of witches.
The goodies or white witches were so pure it was sickening. They thought everything could be solved with talking things through and giving second chances. The gray witches were the best of both worlds or that was what one of them said but I had my fair share of gray witchdom and couldn’t seem to get rid of my problem witch. I glanced at Lilah. Lilah couldn’t even pretend to be interested though she probably hadn’t been around this many witches in her lifetime.
Did she even understand the close bond of the sisterhood in a coven?
“Let’s get started everyone. Callum can you get everyone a drink?” I asked the male.
Well maybe it would click with the young witch sooner or later. Until then, it wasn’t my job to force anything down her throat after all. I could only hope that maybe being exposed to this world like this would help bring out the best in the girl.
