Chapter 1 First Meeting
In the third floor of the military hospital, there were over twenty people waiting for the elevator, Chloe Stewart, who was holding a large packet of medicine, was also among them.
Her mother has been suffering from angina pectoris, which made Chloe a frequent visitor to the hospital. She came to buy the medicine from the same doctor regularly.
Chloe was anxiously watching the numbers on the elevator's LCD screen change slowly. Not only her, but everyone else tensed their muscles and was ready to rush in as soon as the elevator door opened.
Finally the elevator stopped on the third floor, and the door opened with a "ding" sound. She saw that there was only one man in a wheelchair. He is very tall with olive skin, copper hair and blue eyes.
What is particularly striking is the green military uniform he wears. He looks grand. That was what Chloe thought when she first saw him.
The elevator went down to the first floor, and everyone else left with busy steps as soon as the door opened. Chloe was standing in the corner, replying to her colleagues' messages, so she was the last one who got out of the elevator.
In the distance, the man in the wheelchair was heading to the hospital gate. At the same time, several doctors and nurses were also heading to the gate from outside wheeling a stretcher. Chloe immediately ran up to hold the armrest of the wheelchair and pushed the man aside. Fortunately, the stretcher didn’t collide with the man.
Chloe works as a coach in a combat club, teaching women self-defense. Her pace was much faster than ordinary people because she never neglected her training.
Because of her mother’s illness, Chloe has received many kindnesses from others, and begins to know more about other sick people in the hospital. So, she has a special friendly feeling for sick people and cripples.
Chloe took a deep breath after watching the nurses push the stretcher away. She turned the wheelchair to face her and asked the man calmly, "Where are you going? I can push the wheelchair for you. You’re not safe in the crowd."
Before the soldier could answer, someone had already walked nearby them. It was the man’s driver Tommy Weiss.
"Master Morgan, why did you come down on your own?" Tommy was very anxious when seeing Morgan getting out of the elevator in a wheelchair alone.
Morgan was the most favored junior in his family. He became a senior officer at a young age. He has to be in the wheelchair whenever there are people around, even though his legs are not as weak as others expect, a complete contrast to his image as a promising young officer.
Morgan came to the hospital for a health check. After that, he must go to a blind date meeting. Tommy couldn’t afford to see anything went wrong with the young master. Not only Morgan’s biological father Brian, but the military would hold him accountable. He may no longer work as Morgan’s driver, and to protect the young master in his own way.
While Tommy was stepping forward to hold the wheelchair, Chloe stepped back and was going to leave.
"Hey, where are you going? I can send you there," Morgan raised one of his hands and asked, for fear that Chloe would leave instantly.
"It's okay, I’ll take the bus. Take good care of yourself," Chloe smiled at Morgan and walked outside the gate, towards the bus stop.
It was a clear day and Chloe’s brown hair gleamed in the sun. Her long hair was streaming in the breeze and with her bright smile, Morgan felt an instant connection to her.
Although Morgan has seen countless beautiful women, his body seems to heat up about eight degrees when Chloe is nearby. He wanted to run his fingers through her soft hair, to kiss her fair skin, and to bite her rosy lips. Nothing else matters around him when he meets her gaze.
The moment a sweet smile appeared on Chloe's face; Morgan's heart seemed to jump out of his throat.
Morgan ignored Tommy's urging and insisted on walking to the place where the date meeting is going to be held.
Tommy was afraid that the young master would be in danger. He has a good temper and has always been patient and gentle, "Morgan, let me drive you to the dating event. You don’t know how to get there."
"You know I didn’t plan to go there. Now if you leave me alone, I’ll go to the blind date, isn’t that what you want? Otherwise, I’ll just go back to the office." Morgan glanced at the Cadillac, and then at Chloe who was walking in front.
Tommy understood the young master and had no choice but to agree. Morgan paced up and stopped Chloe, "Wait, can you take me to the bus stop? I'm going to take the bus too."
Chloe didn't understand why the man in the wheelchair didn't take the luxury car and insisted on taking the bus, but helping others is what she loves, Chloe decided to walk along with him to the bus stop.
"Well then, we can go to the bus stop together."
Being pushed by Chloe in a wheelchair, Morgan's heart actually went up and down. He tried his best to calm down, turned back to Chloe with a smile.
That was the time when he saw that there was sneaky man who was stalking them. The man immediately turned his head to look elsewhere when he saw Morgan turn around.
Morgan suggested taking a taxi, trying to find a way to get rid of the person who was following him. Of course, Chloe didn't know what was going on.
"I'm going to the next block, to attend the blind date meeting. Where are you going? We can take a taxi."
"The blind date meeting? What a coincidence! I'm going there too," Chloe was surprised. She had to go there because her mother signed up for her. But why did this man go to the event? On the one hand, she couldn’t believe that she could meet someone who was also going to the same stupid blind date. On the other hand, this man was so handsome that he didn't have a girlfriend, which was incredible.
The two took a taxi to the blind date meeting. Along the way, Morgan was too nervous sitting beside Chloe to talk with her.
Entering the terrace, Chloe sat on the seat where there was her name card on the table. Her mother and her neighbor Portia were cheering for her on the guest seat. She felt that it was the right choice to be here when she saw her mother’s happy face.
Especially when she saw her mother’s ruddy face and hear her laughter, she felt that it was already worth it even if she would meet no one that has the potential to be her boyfriend.
Seeing that Chloe enters the terrace with Morgan, Portia was startled. The exaggerated expression on her face grabbed Chloe’s mother’s attention.
“What’s that on your face?”
"Why did Morgan is here? Did he know your daughter before?"
"Who? The man who came in with Chloe? who is he and what does he do?" Chloe's mother became nervous, having no idea what Portia was going to say.
“Morgan, the man in the wheelchair, is an officer in the army. His grandpa used to be a respected general. His father also works in the army. He himself is a military commander, a Senior Colonel. I heard that during a military operation, he was infected with a very rare virus named β. his immune system has been destroyed because of the virus, and no cure has been found yet. That’s why he has to use a wheel chair most of the time, to save his energy." Portia’s married to someone who is in the army, so she’s familiar with these things.
Shortly after Chloe was seated, the host announced the start of the event, and a handsome man sat opposite her.
Coincidence? Chloe couldn't understand why Morgan was the first man that she’s going to talk with.
"Take it easy. Do not think too complicated, I'm here for a blind date," Morgan smirked. He was more relaxed. Fortunately, he listened to Tommy's advice and came to participate in the blind date, otherwise, he would have miss Chloe.
"You’re the one who should take it easy. Let me tell you, I'm an unlucky girl, and the four boys I'm engaged to have all had an accident, aren't you afraid?" Chloe didn't want to think badly about people, but she has to be on guard because the man in front her has a feeling that she can't see through.
"You are telling me this now? Do you mean that you are very optimistic about our relationship and believe that I can be your husband in the future? Or do you care about me so much that you are afraid that your fate will be detrimental to me?"
Morgan's words left Chloe speechless. No matter what she answered, she would fall into his trap. Her cheeks were flushed, but she remained silent.
While Morgan seemed have plucked up much more courage, "What's so embarrassing about this? Since I can sit here, I have the courage to admit that I like you and I want you to be my girlfriend."
Chloe laughed when she heard this.
Such a pure and flawless smile made Morgan’s heart stopped beating for a second. He felt that his heartstrings were tugged again.
"Eight minutes is up," The host reminded, and the male guests at the blind date began to change positions.
It was only at this moment that Chloe realized that she and Morgan had been chatting all the time. This was the first time that a man was not afraid of her after she told him that she was unlucky.
Seeing that Morgan was asked to change the seat by the host, Chloe found it was not fun and thought it was time to leave. She was tired of explaining to people how the four men who asked her to marry them experienced bad things.
When Chloe and her mother got out of the terrace, they saw that the sky was already covered with dark clouds, and the wind was mixed with sporadic raindrops.
Portia left just now. Chloe didn't bring an umbrella and was going to call Portia to see if she could come back with an umbrella. Her mother was weak and she could not allow her catch cold in the rain.
When she was dialing the number, a extended Cadillac appeared in front of them, and the window was rolled down, revealing Tommy's smiling face, "Miss, please get in the car. Morgan would like to send you home."
Although Chloe’s mother was reluctant, Chloe helped her into the car as she saw that the rain was pouring down.
Chloe’s mother saw that Morgan was sitting in the wheelchair all the time. He was a disabled person even though he is handsome, and maybe rich. But she didn't want her daughter to have anything to do with a man who may not protect himself.
Sitting in the car, Chloe looks around her. Four plush leather seats form a lounge area, and there was a small table on which a bouquet of flowers and wine glasses were there. Morgan's military uniform is straight and elegant, against the luxurious background of the Cadillac, he’s literally a man from an aristocratic family.
"Why did you come out so soon too? Don’t you want to talk to other girls?" Chloe asked curiously. There were many girls waiting in line to talk with Morgan for eight minutes, but he refused them all.
"You came out. There is no point in staying there." Morgan replied.
Tommy drove car through the heavy rain, and when they arrived at the place where Chloe was living, the rain had stopped, but it was still spitting. Chloe’s mother went upstairs first, leaving only Chloe and Morgan who had also got out of the car.
"What are you doing? You don’t have to get out of the car." Chloe frowned at Morgan who was sitting in the wheelchair.
"Can I borrow your cell phone?"
Chloe thought that he had send her home anyway, so she took out her phone form the pocket and gave him.
Morgan rarely gives people his private number, but he entered his number into Chloe's cell phone.
