A Normal Day

629 Words
I woke up that morning in my sister's bed (which was normal at this point). She got me my breakfast, just cereal but always my favorite. We watched our TV show while she did my hair. My hair was so long it was to my knees but I was not allowed to cut it for some reason. We always knew to stay quiet so we would not wake up my mother and Stephan Sr. and we normally did not wake up Jr until we had to and only on the days we really did have to. We did this about every morning. After we got dressed always in dresses, pants were not allowed because we were girls. We would go to the park and I would swing while she ran laps around the park. The park was small so we could see each other while was running. I tried to run with her but I was too small and usually bad things happened on the days I would try to run with her. But you will find out why later and so will I unfortunately. Next we would go to the restaurant (the only one in the village). She waitressed there and I would sit at the counter until she was done. She always gave me a chocolate milkshake and french fries while I waited. I would just stare at people and things until she was finished. She would then give me a dime and take me across the street to the hardware store. While we were there I would get to pick out a piece of candy for later. I knew my mother had a candy stash at the house but I never liked the candy my mother kept. When my sister and I got home everything seemed normal. Everyone was still asleep like always so we started the chores. My mother and step father never did any of the chores. I would help Christine put all the clothes into a basket. We had to make sure all of the pockets were empty because Mom and Stephan never even worried about that, but if we did not do it Christine would get into a lot of trouble. We had to pick up the clothes out of thier room quietly so we would not wake them. Next we went to the crib where Stephan Jr. slept and I really made sure I was quiet then because if he woke up that would ruin my day. We would next take all the laundry down to the washer and dryer. My sister would put me on the washing machine while she loaded it. Then it was time to do the dishes. We always had a lot of dishes. They were old and an ugly orange. Christine would wash and I would dry and then we both put them away. Then we had to get the coffee brewing. Which by then I was always ready for a nap so Christine would tell me to eat some coffee grounds to keep me awake. She would make their breakfast usually bacon, eggs, and toast. By then Stephan Jr. would start waking up then and she would give him his bottle and baby food while I watched TV. Eventually my mother and step father would come down to eat. But if it got cold while we waited for them to come we would get in trouble. If it was not done before school we got in trouble. On that day Christine got Stephan Jr. dressed and his diaper bag ready to go to the babysitter's house. She put him in his stroller and took him there. Of course I would whine a little because I had to stay there too while she went to school.
