Sophia’s POV
I glanced at the tons of paperwork on my desk and sighed. Why does working have to be so hard?
My vision blurred, and I shook my head. I didn’t get enough sleep, and not having my coffee for a while now pissed me off.
Staying up all night just to prepare for the surprise was worth it. All that was left was Sam’s reaction.
I smiled as I put my hand on my stomach, moving in imaginary circles. My eyes then went to the pile again and I groaned.
I took a few files from the pile and started working. An hour passed, and I heard someone’s footsteps approaching me.
“How are you doing today?” I asked, knowing it was Sam from his cologne.
“You didn’t even have to look up to make sure it’s me,” he mumbled, leaning on my desk.
I raised my eyes, meeting his hazel orbs. He pecked my lips, and I smiled.
“Someone is in a good mood,” I said, noticing his wide grin.
And I was about to make his day better tonight, to my surprise.
“Well, I’m seeing my soon-to-be wife. I should be happy,” he whispered, leaning in for a kiss.
I pressed my finger on his lips, stopping him. He furrowed his eyebrows at my sudden action. “You have a meeting in a couple of minutes. Go get ready,” I reminded him and he groaned.
“Just one kiss,” he said, kissing my finger.
“Fine,” I gave in and he lifted my chin with his thumbs and index finger, placing his lips on mine in a deep kiss.
I pulled away, and he sighed, giving up. “Go now,” I ordered, faking a strict tone.
He pouted and left for his office, coming out minutes later with a bunch of files in his hands. “Sophia,” he said, as he went through his files.
“Yes,” I answered, looking over at him.
“Could you please pick up my brother at the airport? Mom and dad are busy.” he stopped talking as he was reading something on the paper, then he trailed with a sarcastic tone. “And he couldn’t wait to see you at home,” he said, lifting his gaze off the files, locking his gaze with mine.
“Aww, he missed me,” I said, grinning at Sam.
“He’s annoying,” he blurted.
“You’re just jealous,” I teased, making him chuckle.
His brother Alec is older than him by one year only and they are really close, but with different personalities. While Sam was the loyal man in relationships, Alec was the opposite.
At the first of Sam’s and I’s relationship, Alec was annoying me as he thought I was chasing his brother’s money. I proved him wrong and ever since we became like brother and sister, he’s the brother I never had.
I glanced at my desk, then looked back at him. “You can do them later.” He smiled.
“Yes,” I said happily, throwing my fists in the air.
He chuckled at me while I put my phone in my purse, grabbing the car keys; I got up and walked to Sam.
His hazel eyes never left mine as I approached him. I fixed his tie and smiled at him. “Good luck,” I said, pecking his cheek.
Of course, he took his chance and kissed me again. His free hand rested on my waist, pulling me towards him as he deepened in the kiss. I placed my hand on his bicep, wanting to pull away, but my hormones were much stronger.
I even forgot we were at work and just wanted Sam to take me to his office. The kiss turned into a make-out as he nibbled on my lower lip, roaming my mouth with his tongue.
I wrapped my arms around his neck as he cornered me on the wall. He cupped my cheek, smiling as he pulled away, leaving the both of us panting.
“I guess I took what I wanted,” he breathed, and I giggled, staring into his eyes.
“How about a quickie in my office? I think work could wait,” he whispered, leaning for another kiss.
I looked away, and he kissed my cheek instead, feeling his lips quivering into a smile. “No, mister, you have work and they are waiting. Also, I should go,” I answered.
“And leave me in pain?” He asked, and I glanced at his pants, bursting out with laughter.
“Please,” he pleaded, burying his head in my neck.
“Well, I’m aroused too, but there are things that have to be done,” I mumbled, and he pulled away, looking with disappointment at me.
I gave him a quick kiss and hugged him. His face eased and was replaced by admiration and love. “Wait for tonight,” I whispered in his ear, and he grinned devilishly.
“I’m excited for tonight,” he muttered as he kissed my bare neck.
“Sam,” I called his name, and he hummed, pulling away, meeting my stern look.
He rolled his eyes and smiled. “Alright, take care and call me when you reach the airport,” he said, tucking a lock of my hair behind my ear.
“Mr. Stevens,” someone called. I was about to move out of his grasp, but Sam slid his hand on my ass, pinching it.
I squealed, slapping his hand as he chuckled softly at me. “Sam, you have a meeting and I have to pick up your brother,” I said, smacking his hand again to let go of me.
He gazed at me with a smile and kissed my forehead. “I love you,” he mumbled against my skin.
He cupped my cheek, his eyes meeting mine. “I love you, too,” I whispered, and that moment was cut off by his assistant who called out to him again.
“Work is calling,” I joked as I got out of his grasp. He sighed and walked to the meeting room, taking one last look at me before entering.
How did I get so lucky with that man? I wondered, smiling at the thought of being with him forever.
And to complete my happiness, we were having a baby.
I went over to the elevator and waited for it, remembering my first time here.
Samuel Stevens, the CEO of a marketing company. I applied to be his secretary and you know those types of stories where the cold and ruthless CEO falls in love with his secretary, yeah that was us except Samuel wasn’t cold or ruthless, he was a sweetheart from day one.
And that’s why I love him.
The elevator door opened, and I stepped in. My vision got blurry again as I glanced at the board of numbers.
It was a bad idea to skip breakfast, what was I thinking? I had to blame my morning sickness for that.
“Are you fine?” I lifted my gaze to find an intern stepping inside the elevator, I quickly nodded, then I pressed the zero button.
We reached the ground floor, and I walked a block around the company, where I parked my car.
I unlocked the car, then got in, throwing my purse on the empty seat.
I felt myself getting dizzy and nauseous. I placed my hand on my stomach, closing my eyes and staying in this peaceful silence. “Hang on little one, mommy will get food after picking up uncle Alec,” I whispered, rubbing my small bump.
Should I even drive when I’m like this?
Sam asked for a simple thing. He asked me to pick up his brother and I’m doing it.
I opened my eyes and started the car, putting my hands on the steering wheel and my feet on the gas pedal.
I pulled away and drove, heading to the airport.
I was good for thirty minutes, then my vision became blurry again.
My breathing was becoming slower, my head felt lighter and my body was becoming limp and stiff like I had no control over myself. A bad feeling grew in my guts like I was going to die.
I wanted to lift my foot off the gas pedal as I noticed from afar a car pulled over. My body jerked and I couldn’t control my actions anymore, I was having a seizure.
My car passed the red light as my body convulsed, and I threw my neck to the back, a tear escaped from my eye, I was going to die.
Everything I did in my life was like a movie in my head. I shut my eyes, seeing myself laughing with my family, meeting Sam for the first time, him proposing, and our moments together.
And me finding myself pregnant with our bundle of joy. My life was perfect.
Today was our last kiss, probably. I heard the metal crashing and my body jerked from the chair, going through the windshield.
I hit the warm metal, feeling blood trickling down my face, my eyes set on the other driver who had a bloodied face now.
My heart was slow, hardly beating. I could hear everything around me as the people rushed to help us.
I wanted to fight the drowsiness; I had to keep my eyes open for Sam, not me.
“God, I don’t want to die,” I whispered, fighting over the pain. I wanted to touch my growing stomach for comfort, but I couldn’t.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I waited for my death. I tried my best, but my eyelids betrayed me as they closed gradually, welcoming the darkness.
That was my end.
Or not, I fluttered my eyes open, shielding them quickly with my hand from the bright light.
“Am I dead?” My voice came out cracked, removing my hand from my eyes.
“Not really,” a blonde woman said.
“Who are you?” I asked, then my mouth flung open, realizing who she was.
“You are Christiana Summer, that famous actress, I saw your movie with my fiance, he’s a huge fan,” I babbled and she smiled.
“Am I talking too much?” I asked again, nibbling on my lips.
“No, that’s fine.”
“So, if we aren’t dead, where are we?” I asked, looking around myself.
There was nothing, only an empty white room. My eyes fell on her again and her soft smile was replaced by a sad one instead.
“I died,” she mumbled. The tears made her eyes glint. She shut her eyes, letting the tears drop on her cheeks.
At her words, my hands quickly went for my stomach and I could feel tears fill my eyes. “My baby died,” I breathed, feeling my heart shattering into pieces.
I lifted my gaze to her, dropping on my knees as I broke over my loss. She quickly wiped her tears and came to hug me, her hand caressing my hair softly, trying to calm me down.
Even though I caused her death, she was calming me down.
Minutes passed, and I finally calmed down. She pulled away and sat in front of me. “Why are you here? And why can’t I wake up?” I asked, crossing my legs.
“I’m in your body,” she mumbled, and I furrowed at her, then she continued. “ We are two souls in one body,”
“What?” I guffawed, not believing her.
Is that even possible?
Her blue eyes met mine, looking serious. “You are serious,” I mumbled, and she nodded.
“I could feel you slipping away,” she trailed.
My gaze fell on my lap, I shook my head, refusing to believe what she said. “No!” I shouted.
I can’t die.
I raised my gaze, meeting her blue eyes. “I don’t want to die, Sam and I are getting married,” I hollered at her.
“You think this is fun? I woke up in someone’s body and now I passed out, that’s why I’m seeing you,” she barked, crossing her arms.
“So, what now? I’m the one fading and you are staying in my body,” I shouted, feeling tears streaming down my cheeks.
I wouldn’t see my Sam again.
“You were the one who killed me!” She shouted at my face, throwing her hands in the air.
She was right; I was making it all about me while I killed her. It wasn’t on purpose, but I could’ve prevented that if I chose not to drive.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered, averting her icy gaze.
She closed her eyes, breathing heavily. She shot her eyes open again, glancing at me. “I’ll figure it out,” she mumbled.
I lifted my gaze, meeting hers again. “I died, but you didn’t, I deserve to rest in peace,” she continued as she got up off the floor.
She offered me her hand, and I took it, getting up.
“Okay, but no funny business with my fiance and can you tell him exactly what happened?” I mumbled, and she raised her eyebrow at me.
“If you want to wake up in a psychiatric ward, then yeah, why not,” she said sarcastically.
I grabbed her arm, staring into her eyes. “I want you to tell him,” I insisted.
“I’ll try, but no promises.” She sighed
