All for a message.
“I don't understand; I swear to God, I don't understand what the hell is going on?”
I looked at my phone again and I still didn't understand.
A message, Álex broke up with me through a message.
Amorcito's w******p:
"Sandy, everything we've experienced was very nice, but I need you to understand that you and I can no longer continue together. I must grow and mature, get married and start a family, and you will understand, sweetheart, that you are not a woman to marry. I can't fight against your social class. To marry I must do so with a woman of the same class, I'm sorry. Don't call me anymore because from today... You are blocked.”
No matter how much I read the message, I couldn't understand what happened. He just told me that I was not a woman to marry and that it must be someone from his social class. I didn’t understand.
We dated for 5 years; I was going all in on the relationship; what's more, I didn't look for him; he looked for me. He had always told me that he loved me, he did things for me, and my parents loved him, although I'm sure they don't love me and that they were only happy with me because of Alex's money, that was the only thing that mattered to them.
My mother entered my room accompanied by my younger sister, who was her favourite and always had been; they both looked at me with their arms crossed. I sat on my bed to see what they were going to tell me.
“I don't understand... I don't understand how you were so stupid to let Álex go. Where the hell did we fail you so much that you left us without money? Now how are we going to pay the bills?”
“How am I going to go to university? I can't lose my car. I'm not going to stop buying the things I like just because you're a b***h who didn't open her legs.”
Yes, exactly, those were my mother and my sister's words; they both saw me only as an asset that brought them money; now that Álex was gone, I had become worthless.
It had always been like this; my life had always been the same. They didn't love me, and I didn't feel anything for them either; rather, it was as if I were a stranger in the house.
I never cared much because in those 5 years with Álex, I really believed that he could have a family by his side, and now he betrayed me like this as if I were nothing more than anyone he spent his time with.
I felt terrible; it was a pain that I couldn't explain; my whole body was hurting. I swear to God I wanted to die.
When they stopped making fun of me, my soul didn't rest, I just began to think about everything again. Why did he do that to me? Why didn't he warn me before? Why did he use me?
God, I couldn't take it anymore.
“Thank you for all the support you give me,” I told them, standing up without wanting to complain, I didn't care about them.
“Let's see... To be clear, you don't deserve support; if poor Alex walked away from you, it is because you're worthless, so he's the one who needs support.” My mother and her acidity as always.
“Exactly, if you're bad in bed, he can't stay with you.”
“Your sister is right, maybe Álex wants to go out with someone like you, Ceci.”
“Do you believe so, mom?”
“Of course, you are much prettier and nicer than this hypocrite; what's more, with the advice that I have given you, you should be surely better in bed than her.”
They both held hands and acted as if this was a joke; they jumped for joy, and I just watched them. It didn’t surprise me, but I was not going to stay watching them either.
I took my bag and left the room; when I got to the living room, my dad entered, and he looked at me, annoyed.
“Tell me, Sandra, what is this I'm reading?”
“I don't know what you mean,” I told him, paying attention to what he showed me on his phone.
“This news must be false, surely Álex Pimentel is not going to marry the princess of Cosmo Cosmetics. What the hell? Is he going to marry someone else and announce today that he broke up with you?”
“He's his mother's son!”
I left the house while my father and mother shouted at me that it was better that I not come back; maybe they were right; it was for the best. I didn’t want to see their faces again after everything they had done to me.
I was walking down the street while I looked around me; there was nothing I could do; this had already come to an end, but what do I do with all the love I felt for him?
I looked for my phone and dialed my friend Daisy.
“Hello? What are you calling me for?” She seemed a little upset.
“Let's hear it.”
“Daisy, I…”
“My dear, everyone knows that Álex is going to marry Cecil Campbell and that you are the third in contention. Do yourself and us a favour by staying away from us.”
She cut me off, and just as she answered me, she cut me off. Ok, damn, everyone was close to me just because Alex was with me. Without Álex, for them, I was worthless.
But I was determined; this was over; that i***t would have to tell me to my face why he did this to me.
I searched my browser for where the engagement party was taking place, and it threw up an event centre on the outskirts of town, so I grabbed a taxi and headed there.
I arrived at the place, quite far away, I must say, and I got out of the car looking at where the people were; there was security everywhere, and since I only wore jeans and a black jacket with sneakers, it didn't exactly fit in the place.
I got to the door where the guards were detaining people and I embarked on a conversation to see if I could convince any of them to allow me entry.
“Excuse me, could I ask you a favour?”
“What do you need?”
“My invitation is in there, and I can't go in, my friends just came in, and they brought my dress. You can check, they are Emma Langley, Taylor Scofield, Sarah Ferguson and Daisy Luther.”
“Sorry, you can't enter if you don't have an invitation and I can't help you. Don't insist.” He turned and looked at the man who was in the car parked next to him.
“ Please come in, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell.”
“Please, Max, take out the trash.” The unpleasant woman looked at me ironically as she spoke.
Those were the parents of the cosmetics princess, I just hoped they all drowned in their saliva.
“Please, Max, is that your name? Help me and no one will notice that I came in, please…” I tried to beg but the man just took me by the arm and took me out of the entrance, leaving me further behind.
“You're disgusting, Max!” I shouted at him in annoyance while next to me, a very happy guy lowered his glass and looked at me smiling.
“Why do you want to enter?” He asked me with a funny tone of voice.
“Don't laugh! I don't understand what you're laughing at. How unpleasant to laugh at others!” I told him angrily and he raised his hands.
“I swear I wasn't laughing at you, but at your insistence, if you want to go in then come ride with me. I'd love to know why you're dying to enter an event as pathetic and boring as this one.” He opened the door of his car while smiling again and made room for me to get in.
“Thank you for helping me, but no one helps others for free, tell me once and for all what you are going to ask me in exchange for letting me in. I have a very direct personality.”
“Simple, I just want to see if this disastrous event becomes fun thanks to you.” He smiled and that was precisely what made me get in the car. If he wanted to see action, then we would give the audience action.
Wait for me, Álex, this is not over.
