His wolf calls to her. His heart is pulled toward her. And the only way to save his life may be to break him completely. In a world where rejection is sacred and heartbreak has consequences, Kaelani must choose between love, destiny, and the power she never asked for.Because sometimes, saving your mate means letting him go.

Chapter 1
Kaelani POV Today is the first day back at Crescent Moon Academy. I’m not thrilled. It’s always the same—Alpha heirs who think rank makes them untouchable, she-wolves already auditioning to be someone’s future Luna whether the bond exists or not. The academy used to host two packs. Now it’s four. More power. More ego. More wolves who look down on anyone they think is beneath them. I don’t fit here the way they expect me to. I’m Kaelani Quinn, second-born daughter of Alpha Donovan Quinn and Luna Astrid Quinn of the Blackridge Pack. My older brother Ezra is the future Alpha and my biggest confidant. My younger sister Aliza—only a year younger than me—never lets anyone forget she’s an Alpha’s daughter and destined to be a Luna. Me? I’m counting down the days until my birthday so I can leave, go to college, and become a doctor. I check the time and swear under my breath before throwing myself out of bed. Training comes first. Always. I link my best friend, Kaia Knight—daughter of our Beta, Marcus Knight. "Be down in a bit," I tell her. "Hurry up", she shoots back. "Your dad just walked onto the training grounds". Shit. I throw on leggings, a sports bra, sneakers, and bolt downstairs. "Lani", my dad links. "Yes, Daddy", I answer immediately. "Training starts at six. As the Alpha’s daughter, you should be one of the first here." "I’m sorry, sir", I reply, skidding to a stop beside Kaia. "I’m here now" "Try not to be late every day" Kaia adds dryly. "School hasn’t even started yet". Training flies by, muscle memory carrying me through the drills. I’m just about to head out when my father stops me. “Kaelani, a moment.” “I’ll meet you at my car,” I tell Kaia before turning back. “Yes, Daddy?” I ask. “I know I’m harder on you than on your sister,” he says as we walk back toward the packhouse. “But it’s because I know you’re meant for great things.” “I know,” I say quietly. “I know the Moon Goddess told you and Mom I was special. I just don’t know what that means yet.” “Training will prepare you,” he replies. “For your wolf—and for whatever comes next. We’ll meet after dinner.” “Okay. I love you.” “I love you too.” I shower quickly, then pull my hair into a loose mess of curls. Jeans. Cropped Kiss t-shirt. Black Doc Martens. I glance at my reflection. We look good, my wolf, Nyra, says. We sure do, I agree. I grab muffins and coffee before heading out. “I’ve been waiting forever, b***h,” Kaia says the second I reach the car. “I washed my hair,” I reply, handing her breakfast. “And I brought food.” As I drive, Kaia glances over. “So do you think Kieran Vale will actually date Aliza this year? She was all over him last year. I heard they slept together.” “Who knows,” I shrug. “I don’t care. I just want to survive senior year and get into a good medical school.” Twenty minutes later, I pull my black Corvette into the lot. Something feels… off. "Someone’s watching us", Nyra murmurs. “Don’t look now,” Kaia says, “but Kieran is staring at you.” “Good,” I say, grabbing my bag. “Let him stare.” Inside the auditorium, we take seats in the back—close to the doors for a quick escape. Once everyone’s settled, the principal steps onto the stage. “I don’t care what pack you’re from or what rank you hold,” he says. “In this building, you’re students.” He gestures to the crowd. “We’ve added three new packs this year. Bullying of lower-ranked wolves will not be tolerated. Fighting stays on the training grounds.” My stomach tightens. “For juniors and seniors, the sparring tournament will run all year. Monthly rankings. Assigned opponents. Let’s see if anyone can beat Ezra Quinn’s undefeated record.” Kaia groans. “Leave it to Ezra to still make us look bad even when he’s not here.” Outside, we split up to grab schedules. He’s staring again, Kaia links. I know, I reply. I can feel it. “Kaelani Quinn,” I say at the table. “Alpha Quinn’s daughter?” the teacher asks. “Yes, sir.” “He’s a good Alpha. Your brother will be too. Good luck this year.” I turn—and walk straight into someone. Strong hands steady me. “Sorry. Are you okay?” I look up into the prettiest gray eyes I’ve ever seen. “Yes,” Kaia cuts in, smirking. Say something. “I’m okay,” I manage. “Sorry—I wasn’t paying attention.” “It’s crowded,” he says easily. “I’m Liam Grey.” “Crescent Ridge Alpha heir?” I guess. He laughs. “Guilty. But I’m not like most of them.” “I’ll be the judge of that.” I loop my arm through Kaia’s and walk away. “You’ll definitely see me again,” he calls. Kaia squeals the second we’re out of earshot. “He is HOT.” We don’t make it halfway down the hall before someone calls, “Quinn.” I turn. Kieran Vale. “Are you doing the tournament this year?” he asks. “Were you looking for me?” I reply coolly. “I thought you were too far up my sister’s ass to notice.” Kaia chokes back laughter. His mouth curves. “Funny. Your brother talked about you last year.” “I’ll be signing up,” I say. “Someone has to keep the Quinn momentum going.” “Cocky,” he chuckles. “Confident,” I correct. “Anything else?” “You look good,” he says, eyes sweeping over me. “Did you do something different?” I stare at him. “No,” I say. “Actually—yes. I decided to stop hiding and start owning myself.” I step closer. “And funny enough, this is the first time in four years you’ve spoken to me.” I turn away. “Try not to drool.”
