Chapter 13-Off to College

1845 Words
Emilia's P.O.V I spent the last two days packing up my room into boxes and suitcases, the only thing left to pack is my pillows and comforter. I stand in the middle of my room looking at the emptiness that used to house my awards and knick-knacks, I know this isn't the last time I'll be in this room but it doesn't make it feel any less empty. I was pulled out of my thoughts by a knock on my door, I walk to the door and open it and I get the biggest surprise ever. "Eric" I squeal and jump into his arms. Eric is my older brother, he's going into his fourth year at Waverton. He stands at 6'2 with burnt auburn hair, blue/grey eyes and sun-kissed skin that has as many freckles on it as I do. "I thought you couldn't come home due to summer classes" I said pulling away from him. "I finished last week so I thought I'd come home to help move you and Emmett to California" he said walking into my room. "Wow, you've got a lot of stuff" he said looking at the boxes in my room. "Trust me this is nothing, you should see what I put up in the attic" I chuckle. "Well I guess I've missed a lot since leaving" he wraps his arm around my shoulder. "Yeah, but we have two years to catch up" I leaned into him. "We're back with the trailer" my dad said entering my room, I turned to see him in the doorway. I felt tears forming into my eyes as I ran into his arms "I'm going to miss you" I said burying my face into his chest. "It's okay sweetie" he said rubbing my back, "you'll see us next summer and we'll come out for Christmas" he said kissing my head. "I know" I said pulling away and wiping the tears away, I straighten out my shirt and hair. "I have to bag up my pillows and comforter" I walk over to my bed and start folding my comforter. "I'll start taking the boxes down to the trailer" Eric said picking up two boxes and walking out. "I'll help" my dad said picking up a big box and following Eric. I finished bagging my comforter and pillows when Eric and my dad came in to grab the last of the boxes, Eric took the last two boxes and my dad took my big suitcase. I grab my purse and small bag with my essentials in it, I took one last look at my now empty room then walked out closing the door behind me. I took a deep breath and sighed before finally heading down the stairs and out the front door. I stepped out onto the front porch and Eric comes up to me taking my small bag and putting it in my car. "Okay that's the last of it" Emmett says closing up the trailer and rubbing his hands together. "I can't believe my babies are going off to college" my mom starts to sob then pulls Emmett and me into a hug squeezing really tight. "Mom" Emmett tries to say choking, "we're not leaving forever" he says trying to breath. "It's only six years" he said. "Exactly" she let's us go, "six years is a long time" she wipes the tears off her cheeks. "We'll call every night" I promise her. "Okay" my dad said coming over to us, "we better get going so we don't hit traffic" he said then kissed my mom on the cheek. "I'm driving with Emmett, Eric you're with Emilia" he told us heading over to Emmett's SUV and getting into the driver's seat. I give my mom one last hug the pick up Bonnie and give her a big squeeze, I hand Bonnie over to my mom and make my way to my car and get into the passenger seat. My dad backs up out of the driveway first then me and Eric follow after, I look out the window and see my mom and Bonnie waving at us as we drive away. I sigh as they disappear from sight, a tear falls down my cheek as we drive further and further away from my home. "It'll get better with time, I promise" Eric tells me as he places his hand on mine and squeezes it. "I know" I take a deep breath and sigh, I pull out my phone and open my contacts, I press the message button next to Michael's name and text him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael's P.O.V "You ready to go?" my dad asks as he walks into my now empty room. I take a last look around to make sure I didn't forget anything, I put half my stuff up in the attic and I'm only taking the essentials with me to school. "Yeah I'm ready" I turn around and exit my room closing the door behind me. I go downstairs and walk out the front door to find my parents waiting for me by my dad's red Chevy Outlander. I give my mom a hug goodbye then walk over to the passenger side and get in, my dad kisses my mom then climbs in the driver seat and starts the car. I'm leaving my car here since I'll be going back and forth to Cairo starting next fall so I don't really need it. My dad backs out of the driveway and we drive off, the only good thing about going to California is I'll be with Emma. "What are you thinking about?" my dad interrupts my thoughts. "Emma" I say looking out the window. "We should get there when they do" he tells me. "I know" I reply. I feel my pocket vibrate so I pull out my phone, I smile as I notice a new text from Emma. "We just left the house" she texted. "So did we" I text her back. "Guess who surprised us just to help us move" she texted me. "Let me guess..........................Eric" I replied with a smiley face emoji. "You knew" she replied with a wowed emoji. "Guilty, he text me a few days ago but swore me secrecy" I replied. "I love you" she texted back with three heart emoji's. "I love you too" I replied back with three heart emoji's. "I see you when we get there" she text me . "Can't wait" I replied. "Call me later" I told her. "Okay" she responded. I'm glad she's getting this time with Eric, she's missed him a lot since he's been away. He's the oldest child of the Mason bloodline in their generation so he's next in line to take the Elder's seat. He's going through addition schooling to prepare to be an Elder which is why he hasn't been home as much, he must attend classes during the summer. His summers are spent training and learning the ways of the Elders, the rules state that only the oldest child of the Elder's bloodline can be appointed to the Elder's council. I can't imagine the sacrifices the have to be made to train to become an Elder. I lean into my seat and pull out my earbuds, I put them in my ears and open my Pandora playlist on my phone. I press play and stare out the window while the music plays in my ears, I slowly close my eyes and drift off to sleep. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emilia's P.O.V After almost three days of being on the road, we stopped a couple times at motels to sleep, we finally arrived in L.A. We pulled up to a huge black metal gate that looks to be about 40 feet tall, it has a big golden W in the center of the gate. The gate starts to open up splitting the W in half as it opens, we drive on through the gate then it closes behind us. We drive up a long winding dirt road until a giant castle like building comes into view, there's a large sign etched into a huge boulder with the words Waverton College of Witchcraft established in 1845. We drove along another path leading to four other buildings that are just as big as the first one except there were parking lots in front of them, I took out a piece of paper that had my housing info on it. "I'm in building 2 room 113" I told Eric, he pulled into a spot just in front of building 2 and turned off the car. "Let's get you settled in" he said getting out of the car and followed after him. "These is the dorm?" I asked looking at the buildings in awe. "They're bigger than Jefferson high school" I exclaimed turning to look at Eric. "I know" he laughed, "and to think this is just the first and second year girl's dorm" he smiled. "First and second year boy's is in building 3 next door" he pointed to the building next to us where I see dad and Emmett walking into. "I'm guessing third and fourth years are in buildings 1 and 4" I said looking at him. "Building 1 is the girl's and 4 is the boy's" he told me. "So where do years five and six stay?" I asked not seeing any other buildings. "See how the path continues through the forest past building 4" he points towards the pathway leading into the woods. "The path leads to a bunch of houses and that's where five and six years live" he stated. "So next year you'll be in your own house?" I asked in shock. "Not exactly" he chuckled, "fifth years get five houses, three for the girl's and three for the boy's" he told me as he opened the trunk of my car. "Sixth years get eight houses" he said pulling out a couple boxes and headed towards the dorm. "Why does sixth years get that many houses?" I asked him as I carry my suitcase following him. "The two extra houses are for Elder's in training" he said heading down a hallway. "So you'll be in one of those houses?" I asked as we reached my room. "Yep" he said then looked at me, I opened the door and we stepped into my room. "Not just me though, trainers too" he explained setting down the boxes onto the floor. "Lucky you" I say putting my suitcase on my bed. "Not really" he says with a shrug then headed back out to the car and I followed. "I have a strict schedule to follow so there's no time for fun or free time" he says as we reach the car getting more boxes out of the trunk. After the trailer and cars are emptied dad and Eric drove the trailer to the designated rental place, Emmett and I unpacked while they were gone. My dad was going to be flying back home later tonight so when they got back him and Eric helped with the unpacking.
