Little Fish

Tap tap tap  I watched the boy in front of me tapping at the fish tank in front of the warden’s office.  He was a sight to see. Dreamy one would describe him. He had the height of well over 1.9 metres with broad shoulders and a well sculpted body beneath the white coloured shirt he wore.  I breathed in his smell as I walked closer to him not being able to see his face just yet I heard his deep voice smoothly ringing through my ears I felt myself suck in a breath as he turned around noticing my small frame a couple of metres away from him.  I froze.  He smiled with a dimple that made my heart skip a beat. I scolded myself. I am no one to be taken fancy to.  An orphan. Alone and only to be stared out by potential families who wanted to have something or someone like an orphan to fill their sad depressing life to have a meaningful purpose.  I was interrupted in my thoughts when I saw his lips move but I could not catch what he was saying  ‘Hey you okay?’ His eyes that were hazel roamed on my little rosy cheek face trying to wave me back to reality, his large hand was waving in my line of sight.  ‘S-sorry’ I stuttered and looked down hoping he would not notice the emptiness my eyes held, smiling I lifted my head up and forced social emotions into my face.  ‘I was in a daze’ I merely said now taking in how handsome he really is, I could smell his boyish scent that reminded me of fresh lush green with a hint of sandalwood.  He nodded and looked at me with a strange look, I raised an eyebrow and he smirked. ‘You are asian, what is your background?’ He asked straightforwardly. I felt myself being taken back, for a moment I felt myself curl my fingers making fists. ‘Sorry was I too straightforward?’ he sat down next to the fish tank that only had two fishes in it.  ‘My parents were Korean’ I spoke after what felt like a minute of us staring at each other.  ‘Oh okay’ he smugly spoke and it made me feel negative. I could not believe I found this guy attractive.  ‘Well my name is Ryan Link’ he introduced himself ‘I am about to turn 18 next month, my parents are here to find me a bride’  I gulped. A Bride? In an orphanage? Just who is this Ryan Link and what is his family thinking Just as I was about to ask him what that meant but voices and footsteps from the door of the warden interrupted us and soon the door opened revealing a good looking couple and the warden.  ‘Oh there she is’ the warden Mr Borden smiled gently, wrinkles curling as he looked at me waving me to come close ‘This is the one I mentioned earlier, Mr and Mrs Link. This is Aya Kim. She is 15 years old turning 16 next month’ He said holding my shoulder as I stood barely reaching his height of 1.7 metres.  ‘She is beautiful’ Mrs Link said smiling genuinely ‘Ryan’s birthday is next month too! Oh this is just wonderful. That is right! A Match made in heaven!’ she clapped and held my hands I swallowed back my voice of protest and smiled emotionlessly. ‘Aya, This is Amelia Link and Deek Link. They are here to adopt you’ Mr Borden said with joy as he was the one to take care of me all these years from the age of 6. ‘She is perfect, big beautiful eyes and wow such flawless skin.’ Amelia continued to praise me and her husband smiled nodding with agreement to his wife.  ‘Ryan!’ she exclaimed ‘Come over here take a proper look at Aya, she is very pretty isn't she?’  Ryan smiled with that annoyingly handsome face ‘I guess so’  ….
