The Selection

The next morning when I woke up I got dressed and headed to Aiofe's office to speak with him. I approached the open door and saw him sitting behind his desk.

"Good morning Aiofe,"

"Morning my dear. How did you sleep?" he asked after taking a sip of his coffee.

"Good thank you. Aiofe I haven't decided on who to pick for beta and gamma. I don't really know how to choose. I want to make a good decision because I know they will be with me at all times," I said looking concerned.

"I understand where you are coming from Alcina. I had to make that choice twice as I outlived my first beta and gamma and as you know, my second choice beta was a poor choice of judgement," he sighed sounding a little disappointed. "Hold a trail. Invite all of the able young wolves and test them. When you find the right wolves for the position then you will know who to appoint."

After we spoke I left to head home. I felt a little more content after I spoke to Aiofe. This would be a difficult choice to make, but I knew I had to get it right the first time.

When I arrived at my home I called for all of the young warriors to gather at the training grounds so that I could start the trails. When I arrived, all I saw were male wolves.

"Why am I only seeing the male warriors gentlemen?" I asked in a serious tone staring down at them.

"We did not realize that the females were allowed to enter the trails. They are weaker than all of us. Why would you want a female as a beta or gamma?" one of the warriors snarled at me.

I moved closer to him in a flash and grabbed him by the throat.

"You are to leave my training grounds as you clearly do not respect woman, or your alpha. You are out of the trails." I growled at him clearly scaring him with the sudden outburst.

"GO GET MY FEMALE WARRIORS IMMEDIATELY!" I shouted feeling angry at the disrespect I received from the male warriors. I knew this was going to be a challenge but this was a poor start that I did not expect.

"Now that everyone has arrived, it is time to lay down the rules for the trails. This will not be easy. I expect loyalty and hard work for the members that will be assigned beta and gamma. You will split into two groups. Those who are entering for the beta position and those for gamma. I do not care if you are a man or a woman. In my eyes you are all equal. Behave yourselves or you will be put out of the trails. I will not be wasting my time with disrespectful wolves. For each test someone will be removed until I have 2 members from each side left. Then you will fight. And then I will make my final decision. The challenges will test every sense, strength and weakness you have. Do not try to cheat because I will know and then you will be removed. Are you ready? "

" YES ALPHA! " everyone shouted in unison.

And so it began. The trail lasted for one week before I had my four individuals. They fought and they fought hard. I sent them home to rest and the next morning we all met in my office so that I could tell them who got the positions.

"Good morning everyone. I want to thank you for all of your hard work the past week. I know I pushed you pass your limit, but that was the only way for me to determine who will be worthy. The two who will not be chosen,do not fret, you will be given high up positions as you have impressed. And I only relized then that I need warriors like you to run a few things that I do not always get to tend to. Raymond, you are a fantastic warrior but unfortunately not the gamma for me. I want to appoint you as the leader of the north and east side warriors. I think you will be a asset for me there. John, same goes to you. I would like you to run the south and west side for me. Please get your things ready to move. You leave tomorrow at dawn, and thank you again, you may leave. "both of them left looking happy and satisfied with my desicion.

" And then there were two, "I smiled at the remaining wolves standing in front of me.

" Thank you alpha for choosing us as your beta and gamma, "Ella said. She was appointed as gamma.

" Yes, thank you my alpha, "my beta Spencer said.

" No, thank you. We have a long journey together. I need you to get your mates if you have found them and move in. First floor for you Ella and the second floor for Spencer, "I said looking down at my paperwork.

" That won't be necessary alpha, "Spencer said." Ella is my mate, "he said leaving me a little shocked.

" Well that is very convenient if I must say so myself, "I laughed." Pick your floor and get comfortable then. I will see you tomorrow morning. And thank you again. " after they left I opened a letter I received from the council. I never attended the meetings they held once a month with all of the regions alphas. They thought some of the alphas would freak out if they knew they appointed a female alpha. In the letter they announced another meeting that I knew I would not attend. I would send Spencer to attend so that I could get all of the information I never received as I never attended the meetings. I mindlinked Spencer notifying him that he would leave in two weeks to attend the meeting and quickly explained why I could not attend, making it very clear to him that he was not to disclose any information about me. The next morning I would tell Ella and Spencer of my abilities.

I can't wait to see how that ends.
