Nuella arrives at Christopher’s house, surveying her surroundings as if it were her first time.
“You’re here. What are you looking at? Christopher asked, descending the stairs.
“Nothing. Was just waiting for you.” She responded.
“Me? Why? It’s this your first time coming to my house ?”
“ I didn't say so. It’s just….
“Just what?” He interrupted, stepping closer to her.
Nuella melted, smiling uncontrollably. Christopher could tell she was uneasy. Her hands trembled as she held them behind her back. Noticing this, he smirked.
“Go to my room and calm down. I’ll be right back”. He said and before heading to the kitchen.
Nuella sat patiently on the king-sized bed, waiting for Christopher to finish freshening up. She glanced down at the nightly gown he had given her earlier to wear.
“Isn’t this too transparent?” She murmured to herself. “Am I a servant or a mistress?”
Before she could dwell on her thoughts, Christopher walked in, a pristine white towel wrapped around his waist, pulling her attention back to the present.
“Is this the man I’ll be staying with from now on? Because I might lose my sanity one day.” She murmured to herself.
Christopher moved toward the bed, extending his right hand, inviting her to join him. Instead of lying down to sleep, Nuella simply gazed at his bare chest, her fingers lightly tracing over it.
“Should I take off my clothes now?” She muttered. Locked eyes with him, mistakenly believing the contract was solely about being intimate.
“That depends.. Do you sleep naked?” He questioned. Giving her a warm smile.
“What?” She exclaimed in surprise.
Christopher pulled her closer, holding her gently.
Nuella’s mind raced with confusion. “Isn’t he going to do anything?” She wondered.
But the only thing she heard next was “Good night Nuella”.
A small smile formed on her lips as she responded softly, “Good night “. Without another word, he went to bed.
The morning sun shone brightly as Christopher, already dressed for work, prepared to leave.
Nuella was still asleep, but the shifting curtains allowed streams of light to filter in, gently waking her.
“Do I need to teach you how to tie a tie? Christopher questioned from across the room. His untied tie around his neck.
“No”. Nuella stood up . Walked to where he was. Helped him to tie the tie.
You’re going to be my plus one tonight at a dinner party. Christopher asked her why still tying the tie. “There’ll be very important people in there, so dress to kill.” Amelia and Dickson will be there too”.
Nuella froze, fear creeping over her.
“Does it bother you to see Dickson?” He asked.
“Not anymore “. She said as she put the tie where it was meant to be.
“But.. How do you plan on introducing me? She probed.
“Do you remember the terms of our deal? Christopher pressed.
Nuella signed.
Nuella wore an orange gown with a thigh-high slit, revealing her back. Her hair Casceded down her back as she stepped into the party.
“Nuella?” A voice called her from behind. She turned to see who it was, her best friend Vivian.
“I didn’t expect to see you.. I’ve missed you so much.” Embracing her. “ Where have you been?”
Christopher walked up to them, cutting her off before she could finish her statement. Introducing Vivian to him.
“This is my best friend Vivian. This is…..
“Mr Robert”. Cutting her off . I know. Heard a lot about you. Giving him a warm smile.
Nuella cast a glance at her.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were friends with Mr. Robert? She pressed
“Don’t know if Nuella will call us friends. His hand pressed against her waist.
Nuella glanced at him, looking confused. Vivian looked at both of them in confusion.
“She’s my client.. And Amelia’s piano teacher “. He explained.
Nuella let out a deep breath, smiling at him.
“I’ll catch you later girl “. She hugged her, letting out a smile and walked off.
Nuella thanked him for not talking about the engagement. Not until Amelia walked in. Cutting them off.
“Christopher, Nuella. Do you know you and Dickson went to the same university?
“Wow, really? What a coincidence.” Casting a glance at him.
“I’m so glad to know you’re doing okay, Miss Carter. I’m sorry about everything that happened. I just was so, so worried about Amelia, you know? Dickson muttered.
“I understand”. She responded.
“You know, I was wondering. Didn’t you decide at that moment or did you already know that Nuella had been kidn*pped when you decided to abandon her?” Christopher, pained as he said those words. He knows he couldn’t trust Dickson even if it’s once.
Dickson looked at Nuella, who lowered her head, avoiding his gaze.
Amelia just stared at him with so many questions in her eyes.
The silence in the room was eerie and unsettling. Dickson refused to speak up. Nuella’s phone rang, breaking off the silence. She excused herself to answer the call. Meanwhile, Amelia had asked Dickson why he had not yet answered the question her brother had asked him.
“That was completely out of line, Christopher “. Dickson, snapped, fists clenched.
“Maybe that was uncalled-for”. Christopher struggled, not looking the least bit, sorry.
Nuella froze as the phone slipped from her hand, crashing to the floor. Her eyes widened, dripping with fear and shock.
Christopher walked up to her. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
“My father got attacked in jail and was rushed to the hospital “.
