Chapter 4: A Loss May Turn Out to Be a Blessing in Disguise
Leo Orlando's marriage for the sake of bringing good fortune was not something the Orlando family intended to make a grand affair. So, on an auspicious day, under the clear morning sky, Lilith Douglas, dressed in her wedding gown, was escorted from the hotel to the Fu residence.
Although the Orlando family did not prepare a lavish wedding, they still observed the traditional customs associated with welcoming a new bride into the family. The tea ceremony, changing of titles, and receiving red envelopes kept everyone busy for most of the day.
After the wedding banquet, Lilith Douglas was directly taken to Leo Orlando's room.
A large red double happiness character was pasted at the head of the bed, creating a stark contrast with the man lying there with his eyes closed, giving off a vibe reminiscent of a Thai horror movie.
Standing at the doorway, Lilith Douglas hesitated to move forward.
Tabitha Haywood pushed the door open, glanced at Leo Orlando on the bed, and gently took hold of Lilith Douglas's hand. "Don't be afraid. He's just asleep. You'll get used to it over time. Why don't you take a bath first?"
Not afraid?
How could she not be?
The man's face was so pale that it almost glowed, making him look like a corpse. How could she not feel scared?
"Okay, alright."
Lilith Douglas went into the bathroom. Tabitha Haywood walked to the side of Leo Orlando's bed and held his somewhat pale hand.
Six months ago, he had been in a car accident; his leg was broken on the spot, and after suffering a blow to the head, he fell into a coma. The circumstances of the accident were strange, and to this day, no one knew who was behind it.
But none of that mattered now.
"Huanshen, today, Mom brought you a wife. She grew up in the countryside and has endured much hardship. The Lucius family wanted to marry her into our Orlando family in exchange for the safety of the Gu Corporation, but she refused. She's a stubborn child, but she knows medicine, and Mom thinks it will help with your condition."
"So, I made a deal with her. She's very smart and knows how to weigh the pros and cons. She made the right choice, and Mom is very happy. From now on, it won't just be the two of us in the Orlando family."
"My son, wake up soon, or else, this Orlando family will fall into the hands of Wade Orlando."
Tucking the blanket around Leo Orlando, Tabitha Haywood wiped away the tears welling up in her eyes and stood up. Walking to the bathroom door, she knocked lightly and said, "Qianqian, you must be tired today. Get some rest early."
"I know, Mom," came Lilith Douglas's reply as she was still in the shower.
After her bath, Lilith Douglas, while drying her hair, looked at the man on the bed. Under the warm orange light, his complexion didn't seem as terrifying as before.
His features were deep-set, his hair thick, and his skin smooth. There was a familiar feeling about his eyes and brows, as if she had seen him somewhere before.
Maybe all handsome men gave this impression, always seeming familiar.
Was she really going to sleep here tonight? It felt more like being in a tomb.
Taking a deep breath, Lilith Douglas slowly exhaled. It seemed her life would be spent in this unfathomable Orlando family. But she was only twenty years old—wasn't her life just beginning?
Oh well, what seems like a loss may turn out to be a blessing.
Glancing again at the man lying on the bed, she noticed he was wearing a red pajama set.
She shivered involuntarily.
Hugging her pillow, Lilith Douglas planned to sneak off to a guest room for the night. But as soon as she opened the door, she saw Harvey standing there with a glass of milk.
"Uncle... Harvey."
"Madam, this is the milk that Lady asked me to bring you. Drink it while it's still warm," Harvey said, noticing the pillow Lilith Douglas was holding. "Madam, where are you going with that pillow?"
Panicking, Lilith Douglas quickly hid the pillow behind her back, forcing a smile. "Nothing, I just forgot to put it down."
