Chapter 3: Death Anniversary

1381 Words
(Zaria POV) It’s been a year since I came back to my Palace. I accepted this lifestyle because, eventually, It is my home and I have to come back one day or another. Mom started teaching me about all the rules and regulations of ‘How to be the best Queen?’ Not that I mind because I really like to keep myself occupied. Dad started my training as a warrior and I started most of my time in training to be the best warrior as I have to take revenge. I didn't forget about the promise which I made to my Mami and I will never forget it in the future as well. One thing which I did was, I didn’t tell a single soul about the last words of my Mami. I know they will disapprove my plan of revenge and won’t let me complete this mission. I can’t afford this at any cost. “Zaria! Are you ready? All the people are waiting for you,” Zurian entered in my room while struggling with his watch. “I am ready but what are you doing?” I asked while looking towards his frowning face. “I am trying to lock this d*mn watch but I think the lock is not working,” he said, and I shook my head and went towards him. “Let me take a look, Brother!” I said while checking the lock, and I adjusted the lock and with a single click, it fitted. I arched my brow while looking towards him. “I swear, It wasn’t working,” he said with the most innocent expression on his face, and I chuckled at his response before walking downstairs with him. “Here you are. We are waiting for both of you,” Mother said, and I gave her a sweet smile before picking up flowers and heading towards the cemetery. Tears welled up in my eyes as I started remembering the time which I spent with my Mami. *****FlashBack***** “Don’t do this, Zaria. You will mess up,” She said and I shook my head in denial while trying to mix the batter of the pancakes. I really loved her cooking skills and that’s why I wanted to try something myself. I was standing on a plastic chair and a bowl of glass in my hand. “Mami! I promise I will not mess up, but please, teach me something,” I pleaded with her with my best puppy dog eyes and she started telling me. “The ready-to-cook dough flour is in that cabinet,” She gestured and was about to open it when I stopped her. “Mami! Don’t worry, I have all this covered,” I said proudly while putting a hand on my chest. “ OK but be careful,”, She said and I nodded before opening that cabinet. The cabinet was a bit high but I don’t want to back down just yet. I opened it with a struggle and looked towards Mami with a triumphant smile on my face. “Ok! You have to grab that packet,” She pointed towards a brown folded paper bag and I nodded. I started struggling but only my fingers were brushing off with it. “Let me help you in this and then you can do the rest,” She said, but I shook my head. I wanted to do it all alone. “I am just grabbing it,” I said and stood on my tippy toes and grabbed that packet. I pulled it outside but It was heavier than I expected and before I could understand what was happening, the packet slipped out of my little hands. Mami looked towards me and now, we were both standing in the middle of the kitchen fully covered in that flour. The kitchen looked like someone had dusted it with flour. I know she will be angry with me. Fat tears started rolling down my cheeks and I looked towards her. “I am sorry, Mami. I am such a failure,” I said, and her eyes widened in shock. She quickly wiped my tears with her soft hands. “Hey! It’s ok. It’s not a big deal and there is nothing to be sorry about. Accidents happen and never ever say such a thing again,” She said and I nodded. “You are not a failure. You are Mami’s brave Princess. Never ever think about that bad word again,” She said, and I nodded before hugging her. “You are the best, Mami!” I said and she nodded while rubbing my back. “Yes! Because I got the best daughter,” She said, and I giggled in the embrace. “Let’s start cleaning the kitchen first,” she said, and I nodded before jumping from the chair. *****Flashback Ends***** I looked towards her grave and shook my head to shove all the memories at the back of my head. I put my bouquet on her grave and sat there beside her grave. “Hye, Mami! I hope you missed me just as I missed you a lot. You were the best and I am trying hard to fulfill my promise as soon as possible. I hope you are happy there and enjoying your life. I know you are looking at me from the sky and you have nothing to worry about. I am happy with my brother and parents, but I still miss you every second. I love you,” I said while getting up and all of them started putting their flowers on the grave and, after ending all this, we went back home. It was her first death anniversary and all this seemed a dream to me that all this had happened already. I have to accept reality. My Mami is not with me anymore and I have to fulfill my last promise w ith her. (Unknown POV) "Logan!!! What are you doing?" Leona shouted and his head whipped towards her direction. "Leona! I am busy. Please go away, otherwise, Father will punish both of us." He answered in a stern tone and started practicing the fighting moves which his father taught him yesterday. "Oh, Please!!! Father is not even in the Palace and we will only play for a few minutes. Please, Brother! I have no one to play with me," She pleaded with her best puppy dog eyes and he smiled in answer. She knew her brother would never refuse her request. He knew Father's tough rules were affecting their childhood but he wanted to provide his sister with as much happiness as he could. They both started building a mud castle and after three hours, a beautiful mud castle was present, but they both were covered in mud and soil from head to toe. "Haha, look at yourself, Brother! You are looking so funny," Leona pointed towards her brother and started laughing. Soon, they both started sprinkling water on the ground and giggling loudly. "What is going on here?" The heavy and deep voice of their father made them stop in their tracks and they became rigid like a log. "Logan! I think I told you to practice your lesson." He said, and Logan turned pale after looking towards the angry expressions of his father. "I am sorry, Father," He barely squeaked, but his father was still looking furious. "I have to punish you for this and only then, you will be able to learn your lesson," his father said, and his eyes widened in the name of punishment. "Please, father! I promise I will not do this again." He started crying but his tears were not enough to stop his father. "Guard! Thirty lashes now," his father ordered, and the guards came towards him. He pleaded to his father, but his father was not ready to forgive him for this little mistake. He learned one thing that day. His father didn't love them at all. He also learned how to hide his pain behind the mask of serious expressions. He would never allow anyone to see his pain. Leona kept crying and telling her father that it was her mistake but he was not ready to listen to anything. .
