Finding Myself

Chapter 5

Nobody was outside the house party, except for, of course, Jenny and her sidekicks behind her, Chloe and Alice. Thankfully, she hasn't seen us yet. But, as if an alarm went off in her head or horns, Jenny turned towards me with evil in her eyes. Well great, here goes nothing.

"Hello ladies. Berto," Jenny says as her minions snicker to themselves. "It must be opposite day or something, because I never knew you could actually dress in something that makes you look approachable. Really. I'm shocked that it fits you at all. Considering that you are not the skinniest person in school,". She stops and motions for Alice to come forward. Jenny whispers something in her ear and Alice smiles as she takes Chloe inside with her. Before I could think of what the hell was going on, Jenny turned her attention back to us, mostly me in particular. "So, you guys want to actually come in and party. Are you sure? Even include Berto? I never thought this day would ever come."

"Listen Jenny. I know you think you are funny, but really, those jokes are so 2014, so just get over it," Mads gets closer to Jenny so that she is 1 foot away from her. When Mads is mad, or super annoyed, it's almost the worst kind and not a force to mess with. Skylar and I take a step back for safety precautions. "I also know that you think you are number 1, but you aren't, so leave Berta alone. We are just here to party, that's all. And you just happen to be having one. So, the way I see it, you let us in, and we won't bother you during the party at all. Then on Monday, we can all go back to how things are. With you being your bitchy self while we act as though your voice doesn't make me wanna vomit. Deal?" Mads puts her hand out in front of Jenny, waiting for her to shake it. Jenny looks at me real quick before looking back at Mads.

"Fine, but only for tonight, we can be civil. Just don't think that we'll be super friendly after this. Just go in," Madison and Skylar smirk at each other and walk to the front door. I walk behind them when a hand stops me from going forward. Jenny gives me a look while Alice and Chloe are each holding a twin, so they don't come close to me. "I didn't make any deal with you, so you can't just come in. You don't deserve to come in just because of the twins. They are cool while you are still a nerd. A pretty makeover isn't going to change anything about that," Jenny says. She then leans down to my ear for the next sentence, which broke my heart a bit. "I mean, you weren't even able to keep your boyfriend from breaking up with you." Jenny stepped back a bit from me with a cup in her hand. "Don't worry though, things will look up...," she turns the cup upside down on my head and beer goes straight into my hair. "for me. Not for you. You'll always be a weirdo." Chloe and Alice let go of the twins and threw their cups at me too. Mads and Sky ran to my side to comfort me and give death stares. "Now, get off my property. You're starting to stink." Jenny and her minions laugh as they make their way back into the house. I felt eyes on me from a distance. I look up at one of the windows and see my ex looking at me. The boy who was my world at one point was now looking at me with sadness before closing the blinds, hurting my heart a bit more.

"Come on guys. I got some spare clothes in my car and a nice quick dinner at the diner will cheer you up," Sky says as she and Mads pull me back towards my house to get into their car. I could go back into the house, but I wouldn't want my little brother to see me like that. Embarrassed. Man, did I hate high school.

3rd POV

Jenny walks up to her room alone after passing all the drunk teens on her stairs. She hated hosting parties, but she was only doing it for a favor to a friend. Opening her door, she stares at the person staring out the window. "You can stop staring out like a creeper. I did what you asked, and now she has left before she could enter. I still don't understand why you want me to be mean to her, but at least she's out of your sight for now. I got some water and aspirin just in case so you don't drink yourself silly."

The guy then turns around and sits on the bed, facing Jenny. "I know you are acting this way because of me and I hate that I asked that of you. I don't even understand it myself. All I know is that keeping her completely away from my issues is what's best until we graduate, and then I can tell her everything. Why I broke up with her, why I have you be mean to her, and why I shouldn't be in her life at all after we leave that stage. Just gotta wait a couple more weeks."

Jenny joins him on the bed, sitting next to him. "Derek, I don't hate you for the choices you make. I know first hand that sacrifices have to be made in order to survive this family. And with the things that happened to you a couple of months ago, I don't blame you for lashing out and doing things at that moment that you regret now. Berta may have been my friend once upon a time, but I pick family over others, especially my step-siblings." Jenny gets out of bed and takes her hand out for Derek. "Now, let's go back downstairs before people think we are hooking up or something. That thought alone is gross. Chloe and Alice are on standby in case we wanna escape the party or shut it down early and see Mika."

Derek lets out a snicker and grabs her arm as they leave the room and join the chaos of the party.
