"Ah, s**t," the girl next to me mumbled. The drive here was a rather long one, and the guy that took us demanded that we talk to each other pretty much the entire way, so I learned that her name was Lilly and that she was 22 and waitressed at a club in the Hamptons. "You're in the f*****g mafia, aren't you?!" She barked out as we pulled into a driveway that lead to a mansion. "God, that explains so f*****g much!" "How'd you know?" The guy said into his rearview mirror with a crooked smile. I knew absolutely nothing about the mafia other than the fact that they murdered people whenever the hell they wanted. That was pretty much all I needed to know though to realize that this situation was just that much worse than I had originally thought. "f**k!" Lilly screamed and turned to me just as soon as the guy got out of the car. There was another dude who resembled him right outside, so his attention was on him instead of us for the time being, "We need to play it cool until one of us gets his trust and then we make a run for it. Got it?!" She shouted just as the guy was opening her door. "Got it," I whispered. He stood to the side of the door as the guy he was talking to seconds ago looked in at Lilly and I. "What the f**k, Tony?" He turned and looked at him bitterly, "How many times has Angelo told you to stop taking girls off the streets?! He's going to be so pissed!" "Ah, relax," Tony ruffled the new guy's black hair and that only seemed to piss him off more, "He's busy planning a wedding with the devil herself. He's not going to give two shits about this and that's why I did it now instead of later." "How many girls are you going to have to get pregnant before you realize that you hate bambini?" My eyes widened at his words. I didn't know exactly what bambini meant but I could only assume it had something to do with babies. Lilly didn't seem to like the thought too much either because she was swinging her legs out and kicking the new guy out of her way before making a run for it. "Come on!" She yelled and I wasted no time in opening my door and running out, except I had no idea where I was going and I wasn't even following Lilly at this point. I ran as fast as I could away from the house and turned to look behind me very briefly just to see if Lilly had made it far. I saw that the guy she had kicked was tackling her to the ground as she punched and kicked him away. I turned back around to see a black car coming right at me. I didn't have time to move away, so I braced myself for the impact when everything went dark. _________________ "She looks terrible," an unfamiliar female voice said. "She must be fragile. I wasn't even driving that fast," an unfamiliar male voice said. "Maybe you should have been focusing on the road instead of your damn phone." "Woman..." He warned. I opened my eyes a smidge just to see two people, a man and a woman, staring down at me. I opened them the rest of the way and got better looks at the both of them. She was staring down at me as if I was a piece of gum that she had stepped in while wearing her favorite pair of heels. The other guy looked at me as if he was actually slightly worried. Only slightly though. "What a shame. She's alive. And what of the other girl? Did Dom ever get her to calm down?" The lady asked. "Maybe you should go ask him yourself, Italia. I've been here with you the whole time, remember? You know just as much as I do about all of this." She rolled her eyes, "Fine, Angelo. I'll go see what the problem is and deal with it myself since it doesn't seem like you're going to." The pair gave each other very heated looks before Italia stomped out of the room. She seemed like someone that wouldn't hesitate to squash me like a bug so I was grateful that she was gone. I was still a little nervous about this Angelo guy though, as I should be. He didn't say anything for what seemed like an eternity. We just stared at each other and I've honestly never felt as inferior as I did now. "Who are you?" He finally asked, "And what happened because I know Tony isn't going to be completely honest with me." "Chlo..." I coughed to clear my hoarse throat, that only made everything else hurt that much more though, "Chloe Cruise," my words were weak, but I wasn't expecting much more than that right now. One of his black eyebrows raised curiously, his face very focused, "That millionaire's daughter?" He asked as if alarmed and I nodded, "What the hell are you doing in New York? Where was your family?" "I was supposed to be going to a fundraiser in my dad's place tomorrow, but obviously, my plans have changed." He looked like he was thinking of ways he could fix this mess and still stay out of trouble with the authorities. If he did let me go, I would be running to the police immediately and telling them everything even if this guy made me promise I wouldn't. "I can't just turn you back after you've seen all of this," his demeanor changed suddenly, his inner mafia monster was coming out, "I don't trust people, so you can see why I can't let you go, can't you...Chloe?" He said my name like it was some foreign word he's never even heard before. I squinted my eyes, challenging him, "You do know that my dad is probably already looking for me, right? What happens when he's able to trace my iPhone and it leads him here, Mr. Mafia guy? What are you going to do then?" He only looked scared for a millisecond before going completely blank again, "Where's your phone?" He asked curtly. I shrugged, instantly regretting it after more pain set in. That response really pissed him off. I really didn't know where the phone was though, Tony took it away as soon as he realized I still had it. What he did with it after that was a mystery to everyone but him. Angelo gave me one last angered look before leaving the room. I barely had time to gather my thoughts and process my surroundings before the door was opening again and the guy from earlier that tackled Lilly after she ran away, was throwing her in here with me. They looked like they both had a rough time. He left and I could hear the lock turning as he sealed us in from the outside. Lilly stood up and looked at me, "Jesus, did you really get hit that hard? The car wasn't even moving that fast." I sat up, wincing in pain the entire time I did so, "You're not the one that got hit with it. It was moving fast enough to leave bruises," I looked at my body and knew that it had seen better days. My legs and arms were covered in bruises and scrapes. "Better toughen up real quick, cupcake. We're not getting out of here easy. I totally kicked that Dom guys ass though and that was beautiful." She said with the proudest smile on her face. "You met the Big Boss? He's the one that mowed you down, wasn't he?" I nodded, "Yeah, he's an ass, but I think he's going to hurt Tony so we might get along." Her eyes lit up, "Great. One of us needs to get on their good side, earn their trust and then make them let us out for just a second and then we can try to make a run for it again." I didn't think anyone here would be stupid enough to trust us after what happened today, especially not Lilly. She's fought everyone she's come in contact with so far. "Well, Dom and Tony are never going to do anything for us after what we did today. And Angelo already told me that he doesn't trust anyone, so he's out too." "He doesn't trust anyone yet," she corrected, "We're going to make you the perfect candidate to change that." Why him though?
