Torn Melodies

​ ​Emily was a quiet girl living in the heart of Chicago. Her life was defined by the soft melodies of her guitar and piano, and the heavy silence left behind by her father, who had passed away from a sudden heart attack. To keep them afloat, her mother worked long hours at a local bakery. They were poor, and in the harsh ecosystem of high school, that made Emily a target. Despite the constant bullying, Emily remained sweet and resilient, never complaining about the hand life had dealt her. ​On the opposite end of the spectrum was Felix. The school’s star football player was as handsome as he was cruel. Spoiled by wealthy parents and worshipped by a trail of "girlfriends," Felix ruled the hallways with an iron fist. He was a predator who sought out the weak, and the student body lived in fear of him. When Felix walked down the hall, the crowd parted like the Red Sea. ​One afternoon, the tension snapped. Emily stumbled upon Felix brutally beating a younger boy in the hallway. The boy was begging for mercy, nearly unconscious, while Felix’s friends cheered and popular girls recorded the violence on their phones. ​Unlike the others, Emily couldn’t just watch. She ran for help, finding a teacher and leading him back to the chaos. The teacher’s roar silenced the crowd. Felix was caught red-handed, hovering over his victim. The fallout was immediate: a two-week suspension and a month of detention. As Felix was led away, his cold eyes locked onto Emily. The "hero" had just made a very dangerous enemy.
