The constant hot breath of an unseen monster blew from one direction, then the opposite. Bev could never get a fix on its location. She knew it was sinister without ever seeing its form. It taunted and twisted her like a bug caught in a web. The feeling of helplessness and impotence against her attacker was terrifying.
A tiny spark of light flashed and lit the pitch darkness. It flickered and moved with the air current. Bev twisted and searched in the dim illumination, but there was still no sign of her adversary. The spark grew quickly into a consuming blaze. She struggled to leave, but couldn’t.
