Chapter 10: Messed-up

“Your role may be connected to who you are. You are the last of the royal Lycan aside from Caleb, but aside from Caleb no one else should know otherwise they will easily connect the dots and your uncle will find out,” Rose spoke in Alina’s mind.

“True, that’s possible,” Alina answered, “But once we shift, they will anyway know that I am a Lykan,”

“Yeah, but they won’t know you’re a Royal and an Alpha Lycan. We have a few more abilities we need to learn and unfold,”

“Really, speaking of abilities I was supposed to try and learn these abilities while we are here,”

“Just be careful, we don’t want people to know about our powers,”

“I’ll be careful don’t worry,”

“Hey, Alina,” Amelia called

“I’m sorry what is it?” Alina asked. ‘That’s embarrassing I should be able to multitask while talking to Rose’

“I asked if you want some pasta?” Amelia said passing me the plate of pasta

“Oh, sure thank you,” Alina said grabbing some and placing it on her own plate.

“When do you think Halea will join us?” Amelia asked her

“Uhm, I am not sure. She said she will come to join us midway,”

“How will she know where we are?”

“We can plan for our travel and mark our journey where we can meet her,”

“That’s possible,”

“She’s been in the cave going to the realms of the dead, so if we will to meet her there she would be able to meet us,”

“She has been to the entrance of the realm of the dead?” Amelia asked surprised, “did she died or something?”

“Uhm, you’re a Shaman, shouldn’t you be able to tell?” Alina asked

“If I was there when her soul travelled to the realms, yes I should be able to tell but when was it?”

“She said it was the time when there was an attacked at the warrior’s tribe,” 

“Ohh, I was unconscious and was eventually guarded to return home. I wasn’t able to see her afterwards. I know she nearly died,”

“Yup that was it,”

“But the road to the underworld is different if you’re alive versus when you're a spirit. Unless she’s,” she paused for a while and covered her mouth and speak, “Is she the goddess, Haliya?”

“OMG, the bearer is the goddess,” she said shocked.

‘It took her a while before she can react. Seriously, sometimes I cannot get these Babaylans sometimes they are just clueless,’ Alina talking to herself.

I smiled at her and ‘shoos’ her, “We should keep it low, we don’t want to endanger her,” Alina said.

Alina POV

After the game feast, everyone went their way. I said my goodbye with the rest of the guardians and Amelia. I wanted to look around just to familiarize my self to the surroundings, I like how big the trees are and the smell of the forest. I can feel Rose wanted to run, that’s the good thing about us Lykan we don’t need the moon to shift plus the privilege of not needing to strip our clothes, minor ripping may occur but at least we still have our body covered after returning to our human form. I was running on my feet, feeling the airbrushing my face giggling touching the trees. I always wanted to try to shift while running when I heard someone called my name. And I slowed down and look who it was when the scent hit me, it’s him that intoxicating scent, my mate. 

I shook my head to regain a clear mind, I breath in and tried to calm my self and faced him.

“Hi, Caleb,”

“Hi Alina, can I join your run? I can show you the different places of the territory,” Caleb says smiling

“Are you following me?” I asked

“Well, you can say that I don’t want you to get lost. So do you want to take that run or not?” Caleb asked

“Alright, you won’t let me alone anyway,” I said and I started to run as fast as I can 

Caleb runs alongside trying to match my speed, for some reason running with him gives me the unexplainable sense of joy and contentment. I haven’t felt this for a long time, last time I remember this is when I was with my parents, when they were still alive and when I was just a kid. Without any worries just playing with them, laughing freely.

As I took the phase I slowly shift to my wolf I didn’t realize that Rose took the control as we run. I can feel the butterfly in our tummy, her excitement of running so I let her. She is now teasing Caleb’s wolf, competing and blocking its path, jumping playfully over him and running back again as we reached a cliff. Caleb stopped and looked at the view and shifted back to his human form laughing while catching his breath. I did the same and slowly returned to my human form with a big smile on my face. I looked at the view below, in the middle, you can see the palace and the pool as well as the garden and the gates from afar.

“It’s so beautiful,” I said

“Yes, it is,” Caleb said next to me and when I looked at him I caught him looking at me.

I retracted my smile and looked at him, I wished it’s just this easy. I wished life is just simple, where I can run away from all of my worries and forget all of it and be happy. But every time I think of it I would remember the face of my parents and the pain would strike me as if it was yesterday when I found out that they are gone. That I am alone and the culprit is out there enjoying my family’s fortune, the labour of their hard work.

“What are you thinking that your smile starts to fade away and hates come out?” Caleb asked

I smirk and looked at him, “I just remembered something,” I said

“You were so happy earlier I can see it in your eyes and all of a sudden it was gone. I wish you can stay happy like that,” he said putting his hands in his pocket.

I looked at him furrowing my brows waiting for his litany. He took a deep breath and looked again at the “If I would find my mate, I would make sure to make her happy. If there would be a burden to lift I will lift it for her,” he said and I looked at him without blinking,

‘Is he kidding me? Is he not feeling the bond, why is he telling this to me?’ I am getting furious just looking at him so I asked.

“Have you found your mate?”

“No, I, I don’t know,” he said kicking the stone in front of him letting it fall to the cliff from where we are standing.

“What do you mean you don’t know?”

“It’s hard to explain, but during my shift, something didn’t come out right and my wolf seems cannot get hold of his wolf form, mixing his old powers and not getting used of being a wolf. We just do not know if we have met our mate yet or not. In short, I am just messed up until I completed my quest that’s the only time he would be able to correct his power. I need to return the flames of the realms of the dead and be the judge if I should come back to this life,” he said

“You’re messed-up that’s why you do not react to the mate bond?”

“What do you mean to react to the mate bond? Are you my mate?” he asked me

“No, no that’s not what I mean. Forget about it,”

“Do you know who my mate is?”

“No, no I was just rephrasing your words,” I said not looking at him, “when are we leaving to the Realms of the dead?” I said changing the topic

“We need to plan and discuss the details to the rest of the warriors along with the elders so we can leave as soon as possible,”

“When is this discussion going to happen? We are all here, I think we can work out the details even this evening,”

“How about Halea,”

“She will follow as she promised,”

“But we need her on the discussion this evening,”

“We can quickly give her a call for any decision so we can move quickly,” I said

“Alright, I’ll inform the rest of the guardian and my father about it.

 “Is there any other part of your territory you wanted to show me?”

“We can go to the river if you want, then we can go back afterwards,”

“Alright, I wanted to stretch my legs more,” I said

‘Are you sure it’s just your leg you wanted to stretch out?’ Rose teasing me ‘Come-on you just wanted to spend more time with Caleb,’

‘Hush, don’t corrupt my mind,’ I told her in my mind while I smile

They run again in their wolf form Caleb showing her the way.
