My head throbbed in time to the beat of the rock music blaring from the speaker Alpha Jace had in his office. He had just finished my beating because, I forgot the creamer for his coffee. I am pretty sure I grabbed it from the fridge before heading up here though. I am always forgetting things. Even if I remembered, it was never good enough. I was never strong enough, never fast enough, never smart enough. That’s why I’m not even an Omega. I wasn’t good enough to even get paid for the services I provided for my Masters, and what poor services they were.
"Why can you do nothing right?" Alpha Jace seethed, spitting on my face.
"I'm sorry, Alpha!" I bowed my head, a single tear trying to escape my pale blue eyes. My apologies could never be enough. I’m pathetic for even thinking it was enough to save me from his wrath. I know I shouldn’t cry, it’s my fault, but I can’t help it.
He scoffs at that tear, bringing his fist down again, this time, breaking my nose. The crack sounds louder than the music in my ears as blood starts to drip, pooling at my mouth. I don’t make a sound, I know if I do, I’ll be beaten more. I need to please my Alpha. He goes about punching me for another few minutes until he can calm down. He doesn't mean this to be so harsh. It’s the only way I’ll learn. He always lectures me after a beating, so I know exactly what I did to upset him. Who am I to question the Alpha? I am here to serve him, and nothing more. I'm not even good at doing that.
"Go clean up," he turned from me to clean off his bloodied knuckles, "The Alpha of Black Tide will be here shortly, and I don't need him seeing this mess you made."
“Yes Alpha,” I whisper and head towards the sink in his bathroom. I clean myself up, then grab cleaning supplies from under the sink to sort out the mess on the wood floors of his office. Once that is finished, I leave to head towards the pack house kitchen, in hopes to find an ice pack to help with swelling, and to prepare the lunch I will be serving the Alpha’s and their Betas during their meeting. I don’t normally prepare the meals as I am not the best cook, but the head housemaid was given the week off due to her daughter having a baby.
The doorbell rings as I am sorting through the fridge to find cold meats and cheese to add to my array of fruits and jams on the charcutier board. Luna Gina was heard answering the door, that never happened. Most times she hid away in the nursery with her pup. “Alpha Beck, how lovely to see you again,” she says. The Luna was a nice woman, she always treated me kindly when she could.
“Luna Gina,” a deep gravelly voice greets back. His voice sent shivers down my spine, almost causing me to drop the pitcher of iced tea.
“I’ll lead you to the Alpha’s office, Beta Jonathon should already be waiting. We’ll have a maid bring up something for lunch.
“Thank you,” was all he replied.
Moments later, Luna Gina bounds in, a knowing glint in her eye. There have been rumors she could see the future, and that was the reason the Alpha had married her – of course I never believed that. She was his chosen mate. His first Luna died giving birth to a son years ago, and the child died a long with her. Nobody ever speaks of the late Luna and her pup.
“Here, darling,” she stands behind me and pulls bits of my Raven hair to pin it up in a messy bun, “We need you presentable for the Alpha.”
“I’m sorry Luna for not being –“
“Hush, now, that is not at all what I meant,” she spins me around and her silence speaks volumes as she takes in my bruised face, “I am so sorry, Dove.” She gently runs her pink painted finger from the top of my nose to the button tip.
“I deserved it, Luna. Don’t worry.”
Her eyes glaze over with unshed tears, as she plasters a smile on her perfectly symmetrical face. With a small nod, she gently pushes me towards the door indicating I need to get the meal up to the hungry men.
The Alpha’s office door was closed when I reached it, and I didn’t think I could manage opening it without spilling anything. Just as I was about to set the tray on the floor to turn the knob, the door swings open. A tall wolf with bright eyes and blonde hair stands before me. His shoulders were wide, draped in a white button up that showed his large muscles.
“Hello little wolf,” he smirked and winked at me, causing the even larger wolf in the leather chair to growl low, “Names Chase,” he chuckles and steps aside for me to enter the room.
The wolf sitting in the chair was a lot larger than Chase. He had dark brown hair, and deep melted chocolate eyes, I thought I would get lost in. He raises his large bushy eyebrow at me, crap, no eye contact. I’m going to get it later for sure. I lower my eye, and place the tray of food and tea on the edge of the desk. I turned to leave, and my hip hit it just right, nearly sending the pitcher of tea to its doom. Alpha Jace, growls, his anger very apparent for embarrassing him in front of another alpha.
“I-I’m so-“
“Get out.” My Alpha growls.
“Yes Alpha.”
