Chapter 2
"Do I really have to meet your friends?" I groaned as Audrey dragged me to the cafeteria.
"Yes, you do! I swear they are welcoming," Audrey grinned. I followed her, and we came to a stop at a table where three people were seated.
"Where were you?" the blonde girl asked Audrey.
"Well, I was trying to get Eliza here to meet you guys," Audrey explained, pointing to me as she sat down.
I sat next to her awkwardly. The friend group had me as their center of attention now."Wow, what a beauty," one of the guys said, and the other one nodded.
"Eliza, this is Jax Mercer," Audrey said, pointing to the blonde guy with blue eyes. He was also really good looking.
"And this is Luca Bennett, the most introverted one in the team," she added, pointing to the other guy."Why do I always come with a definition?" Luca groaned.
"Hello, I'm hurt that I am the last to be introduced," the girl said, feigning hurt.
"This is Lucy Cole," Audrey quickly said.
"I'm Eliza Chen, nice to meet you all."
The environment was loud, so I quietly dug into my sandwich. I could see Lucy raising an eyebrow at Audrey, and she chuckled. I was definitely making them uncomfortable. I felt like I should loosen up a little bit.
"So you're new here?" Jax asked with a smirk.
"Yes, I am," I replied. I was literally sick of that question.
"So, Audrey, how did you meet Eliza?" Lucy asked."In English class. She wasn't fazed by Easton Shaw's arrival," Audrey replied, grinning.
"Oh my god, really?" Lucy gasped. The two guys didn't seem surprised; instead, they looked bored.
"Why do you guys make it sound like such a massive ordeal?" I scoffed.
"It is a big deal, unless you happen to be into girls, that is," Lucy stated matter-of-factly. Jax burst out laughing at that, while my jaw instantly dropped. I shot a stunned look over at Audrey.
"Wait, are you implying that Audrey is into girls?" I asked, my curiosity thoroughly piqued.
"She might never admit it out loud, but I know the truth. I caught her eyeing Ivy Dawson like crazy earlier," Lucy teased mercilessly. A furious blush crept up Audrey's neck, turning her cheeks a vibrant shade of crimson.
"Oh my God, it’s so true!" I laughed, the stiffness from earlier finally melting away.
"So, you're not into girls either?" Luca chimed in, joining the conversation.
"Clearly not," I replied. "I just don't find anyone particularly attractive right now.
"My studies come first," I explained."You are such a nerd," Lucy remarked, shaking her head with an amused smile.
"There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a nerd," Luca countered defensively.
"That's only because you're one yourself!" Jax chimed in with a boisterous laugh.
"No, seriously, it’s actually great to have another bright mind on the team," Audrey interjected, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
"Think about it , if Mr. Wilson assigns us a massive group project, we would absolutely crush it."
"And why is that?" I asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
"Because I contribute a solid forty percent of the brainpower, Lucy holds down a respectable thirty, Jax pulls a meager ten, but adding you and Luca to the mix? Damn, we'd be an unstoppable powerhouse," Audrey beamed.A collective wave of laughter rippled through the group at her breakdown.
"So, i heard you're here on a scholarship?" Jax probed, leaning in. He barely finished the sentence before Lucy smacked the back of his head.
"Shut up, that's rude," Lucy scolded, shooting Jax a sharp glare.
"I didn't mean it in a bad way! I was just genuinely curious," Jax defended himself, raising his hands in surrender. "Besides, Clara loves to pick on her."
"Am I really that popular already?" I frowned, a sinking feeling settling in my stomach.
"She literally told the entire school a bunch of awful things about you, you know," Audrey explained gently. "But you're part of our circle now, and you're safe with us. That is, if you actually want to be a part of our group," she added, looking at me with hopeful eyes.
"It wouldn't be bad to have new friends," I murmured, shrugging my shoulders slightly.
"Yay! This calls for a party. Actually, Sean is throwing a massive bash tonight," Lucy announced, her excitement practically radiating off her.
"You had that up your sleeve, didn't you? " Luca chimed in, taking a slow sip from his juice box.
"Yes, and we are all going," Lucy said, sticking her tongue out at him.
"Will you go, Eliza?" Audrey asked.
"No, I'm not really into parties, plus I have a shift at the cafe this evening," I replied.
"Oh, that's too bad," Jax said.
"But it's okay, Sean is throwing another party on Friday and you are coming," Lucy pointed out.
"Sean does love throwing parties," Audrey chuckled.
Damn, what have I gotten myself into.
I searched so much for my physics note in my locker, but I couldn't find it. I'm sure I kept it here this morning. Why couldn't I find it? Physics was my next subject in like twenty minutes. I groaned, feeling disturbed already.
"Looking for that damn Physics note?"I turned to see Ivy smirking.
"I bet she will cry any moment from now," Mara added. She was beside Ivy. What is this bundle of trouble doing here now?
"Did you take my book?" I questioned, annoyed.
"Yeah, we kinda did." Ivy still had that stupid smirk.
"How did you manage to c***k the code?"I gestured to my locker.
"That's not the issue now, is it?" Mara smiled. "If you want your physics note back, follow us." She said and started walking away with Ivy. I sighed and went after them, this is a stupid idea, but I really needed my physics note.
What's the worst they could do?They led me to a distinct area of the school compound. Clara and her boyfriend were already there. Easton had his arm wrapped around Clara, and she clung to him.
"Here she is," Clara announced. She turned to Easton. "Babe, this is the girl I told you about."
Easton looked at me up and down. He really gave that bad boy vibe right now.
"So this is the brat that made my girlfriend stressed, huh?" He walked over to me, we were not far apart now, and I could feel almost intimidated by how much taller than me he was.
"No s**t. Now give me my physics book," I said. I was beyond annoyed now.
"Do you know who you are talking to?" he asked calmly, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, turns out I'm talking to a jerk who has nothing better to do than steal my book," I spat, grimacing.
"Shut up, b***h!" Clara joined in. "Teach her a lesson, Easton," she added.Easton looked at me, his hands in his pockets.
"You don't know what you are signing up for, girl. Kneel and beg Clara for forgiveness, and I will let you off the hook," Easton commanded.
Oh my God, he is a much bigger jerk than I thought. He is already more stupid than I assumed.
"What for? I didn't do anything to her," I pointed out. I checked the time on my phone. Ten minutes left until physics. "Please, I really need that note."
"You are one persistent brat, but you can have your note," Easton smirked, snatching my phone from my hand. I tried to reach for it, but he held it high above me because he was so tall.
Clara laughed and threw my book at my face.
"you can eat the book, b***h," she laughed, hugging Easton."Let's go, babe," she purred.
"Hmm, I need a smoke first," he replied, walking away.
I grabbed my book. "Give me back my phone!" I yelled, but Easton had already left with Clara, leaving me with Mara, Lucy, and the other two guys.
They left shortly, except for Ryler. Why is this dude always the last to leave? At least he never made fun of me as much as his friends did.
"Please, can you tell Easton to give me back my phone?" I asked him, and he scoffed.
"Why, am I the one who took it from you?" Ryler asked, rolling his eyes and walking off.
I hate dealing with this dude.I groaned loudly and practically stomped my way to class.
