Chapter 1: The Wedding Betrayal
The morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of the bridal suite.
Amelia Carter stood in front of the mirror, her heart racing with excitement.
Today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.
She gently touched the white wedding dress she had dreamed of wearing since she was a little girl. The sparkling gown fit her perfectly, making her look like a princess.
A smile spread across her face.
In just a few hours, she would become Mrs. Daniel Brooks.
A soft knock sounded on the door.
"Come in," Amelia said happily.
The door opened, and her best friend, Sophia Bennett, walked inside carrying a bouquet of white roses.
"You look beautiful!" Sophia exclaimed.
Amelia laughed.
"Do I really?"
"You look so gorgeous that if your groom sees you right now, he might faint."
The two women laughed together.
Sophia placed the bouquet on the table and walked over to Amelia.
"Are you nervous?"
"A little."
"That's normal."
Amelia smiled.
She had waited for this day for three years.
Three years ago, she met Daniel at a charity event.
He had been kind and charming.
He had made her laugh.
He had promised to love her forever.
And today, they were finally getting married.
"I'm so happy," Amelia whispered.
Sophia squeezed her hand.
"You deserve to be happy."
At that moment, Amelia's phone rang.
It was a message from her stepsister, Vanessa.
Come to Room 305. I need to tell you something important about the wedding.
Amelia frowned.
"What is it?" Sophia asked.
"It's Vanessa."
Sophia rolled her eyes.
"I don't trust your stepsister."
Neither did Amelia.
Vanessa had never liked her.
Ever since Amelia's father passed away and her mother remarried Richard Carter, Vanessa had treated her like an enemy.
Still, today was her wedding day.
Maybe Vanessa wanted to make peace.
"I'll be right back," Amelia said.
Sophia nodded.
"Hurry. The ceremony starts soon."
Amelia picked up her dress and left the room.
The hallway was quiet.
She stopped in front of Room 305.
For some reason, her heart suddenly beat faster.
She raised her hand and knocked.
No answer.
The door was slightly open.
"Vanessa?" she called.
Silence.
She slowly pushed the door open.
The moment she stepped inside, her entire world shattered.
On the bed...
Daniel was kissing Vanessa.
Their clothes were messy.
Vanessa's lipstick was smeared.
Daniel's hand rested on her waist.
Amelia froze.
Her bouquet slipped from her hand and fell to the floor.
The sound made the couple turn around.
Daniel's eyes widened.
"Amelia?"
Vanessa didn't look surprised at all.
Instead, she smiled.
A victorious smile.
It was then that Amelia realized this had been a trap.
"You…" Amelia's voice trembled. "What is this?"
Daniel stood up.
"It's not what you think."
Amelia laughed bitterly.
Not what she thought?
She had seen everything with her own eyes.
"You're cheating on me?"
No one answered.
Tears filled her eyes.
She looked at Vanessa.
"You're my sister."
"Stepsister," Vanessa corrected.
Amelia felt like someone had stabbed her heart.
"How long?" she asked quietly.
Daniel looked away.
Vanessa crossed her arms.
"Six months."
Six months.
For six months, the man she loved had been betraying her.
Her legs almost gave out.
Vanessa smiled coldly.
"You should thank me."
Amelia stared at her.
"What?"
"You don't deserve Daniel."
"What are you talking about?"
"Daniel and I are in love."
Amelia couldn't believe what she was hearing.
She looked at Daniel.
"Tell me she's lying."
Silence.
Her heart sank.
He wasn't denying it.
"I'm sorry," Daniel finally said.
Those words broke something inside her.
Sorry?
After three years together?
After asking her to marry him?
After planning this wedding?
All he could say was sorry?
Tears rolled down Amelia's cheeks.
"You promised me forever."
Daniel sighed.
"I didn't mean for this to happen."
Vanessa wrapped her arm around him.
"Daniel loves me now."
Amelia looked at the woman she had called family.
"Why would you do this to me?"
Vanessa's eyes darkened.
"Because you've always had everything."
"What?"
"Everyone loved you. Your mother loved you. My father treated you like a princess."
"That's not true."
"It is!"
Vanessa's voice rose.
"I was always second place."
Amelia shook her head.
"You stole my fiancé because you were jealous?"
Vanessa smirked.
"And I won."
The words hit Amelia like a slap.
Daniel stepped forward.
"I'm sorry, Amelia."
"Don't touch me!"
He stopped.
She looked at the wedding ring in her hand.
Then she looked at the man she had loved.
Suddenly, she realized she didn't know him at all.
"You planned to marry me while sleeping with my sister?"
Daniel lowered his head.
Amelia laughed through her tears.
How foolish she had been.
Vanessa smiled.
"Actually, Daniel and I were going to tell you after the wedding."
Amelia's eyes widened.
After the wedding?
That meant they intended to humiliate her even more.
She couldn't breathe.
Everything around her was spinning.
The love.
The promises.
The future she had dreamed of.
It was all a lie.
Vanessa walked toward her.
"You should leave."
Amelia stared at her.
"What?"
"Daniel and I need to get ready."
The cruelty in her voice made Amelia's heart ache.
This was supposed to be her wedding day.
But now another woman was standing there, stealing her happiness.
And that woman was her own stepsister.
Amelia slowly removed her engagement ring.
She looked at it for a long moment.
Then she threw it onto the floor.
Daniel's eyes widened.
"Amelia—"
"We're done."
Silence filled the room.
She lifted her head.
Her eyes were full of pain.
"I never want to see either of you again."
Without another word, she turned around and walked out.
The moment she stepped into the hallway, the tears she had been holding back finally fell.
She ran.
She didn't care about her dress.
She didn't care about her makeup.
She just ran.
Everything was gone.
Everything.
By the time she reached the hotel entrance, she was crying uncontrollably.
The guests stared at her in confusion.
But she didn't stop.
She kept running.
She had no idea where she was going.
All she knew was that her heart had been broken into a thousand pieces.
Suddenly—
Bang!
She bumped into someone.
Strong arms caught her before she could fall.
"I'm sorry," a deep voice said.
Amelia looked up.
Standing before her was a tall, handsome man in a black suit.
His eyes were dark and calm.
For some reason, she couldn't look away.
He looked at her tear-stained face.
"Are you okay?"
Amelia's lips trembled.
No.
She wasn't okay.
Her wedding had just been destroyed.
Her fiancé had betrayed her.
Her sister had stolen everything.
At that moment, a crazy thought entered her mind.
She looked into the stranger's eyes.
Then she said the words that would change her life forever.
"Will you marry me?"
