723 Words
It was a new academic term and school had resumed. First day at school was characterised with a lot of noise and mess because the students were trying to find their way to their new classes and also new students were being admitted. It was a new moment for Tasha because she was now in her final year and just a year away from going to high school. She was no longer a kid as she celebrated her sixteenth birthday and she did not want to be treated as one by her mother neither by her juniors at school. Before school resumed she outlined her goals and activities that she would deliberately execute in order to master her strength over her weaknesses. Tasha was now able to read perfectly after many practices. Now she could read any material without struggle. Her dad buys her the kid's newspaper which was for students and had a lot of educational materials such as articles, puzzles, riddles, questions on subjects such as mathematics, science and English language and other fun activities. Her dad buys and sends them to her through a vehicle every week. She suddenly began to get all the attention in her class as most of her mates sought to also read or use the news papers. She took advantage of that moment and made new friends as she became close with some of them. She now was no longer that girl who was afraid of getting close to people neither was she afraid of answering questions in class. She used to sit at the back previously but in her new class, she sat in the front row. She was determined to make a change. She began to take authority of her life. Joan was happy to see her friend in a new vessel and her mates could not tell where the change and new energy came from. Tasha continued to read the motivational books given her and it was as valuable to her as her bible. Because she saw that the key to her freedom was in those books. She made sure to project her strengths just like how Mrs Halira taught her. She contested for the position of a class prefect in the final year and even though she lost the contest, she got the exposure and also won some new friends and this made her spirit more stronger and tougher. It was the boldest step she took at that stage. She registered her name to join the football team and was met with resistance from some other students who felt she did not belong there. She gave them little attention and insisted on her stay. She was just not ready to accept any more of such behaviors from anyone. Ms Betty realized that her daughter had changed but could not tell exactly what changed about her. She was still that respectful girl but her attitude was a little different. She appeared not to be timid again and she thought maybe because she was growing. She was still humble but her mother saw that she became a little aggressive with some of her decisions. Ms Betty realized that it was time to allow her daughter a bit more freedom and not to always control her like a kid. Tasha had not disrespected the orders of her mother but she now found a way to always deliberate and dialogue with her on issues and this made her mother so happy. She was becoming more opened to her. Tasha new who her mother was and she realized that the only trick she could use on her mother to win her trust was being opened with her. She assisted her mother on many occasions with her knowledge and Ms Betty could not believe how intelligent her daughter was. This made her to call upon Tasha more times when she needed an advice. Tasha Oluwa was happy about her achievements. She was glad to see what her self improvement was yielding. She could not have wished for anything less. The insults that used to come from her mother, all of a sudden have ceased. She was no longer that door mat that everyone freely walked on. She made sure she acted like an adult and even stopped playing unnecessary games with the younger ones in her neighborhood.
