Risen Chapter 7. Moods are lifted with the right words — Monday mornings, everyone hates them. It marks the end of a fabulous weekend and the beginning of a horrifying week. Especially what the week had installed for her. “Again. Another week, great.” She groaned into the pillow. Kara rolled over to the left side of her bedside table, switching off the alarm. She got out of bed, She was practically dragging her body across the floor. With her messy hair and wore out face, her back bent down in fatigue, her feet being dragging themselves across the floor to the bathroom. With her toothbrush in mouth, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. She looked horrible, apart from the messy hair and tired face, her eyes where still puffy and it would take half actually sleep for the bags to disappear. “I guess we’re going Zombie today.” She giggled to herself then continued brushing her teeth. Kara hit the showers soon after brushing her teeth, a good warm shower would make her feel better than how she was feeling. After a twenty minute steaming shower, Kara got out feeling a little better. She made her way to the bedroom, in about an hour or so she had to be Infront of Kelly’s desk, pouring her problems out. Acting like Saturday didn’t happened, Kara was still beating herself up about what she did. Kelly was a sweet and beautiful lady and she just had to do that, act all weird. She put on a plane purple t-shirt from her closet and black jeans, with simple all black sneakers. She made her way to the kitchen with her bag pack, phone and grey hoodie. Kara made herself a bowl of cereal as always. When she finished her breakfast cereal, Kara was on her way to Kelly’s office. She locked up and made her way to the bus stop, she was early as always which meant she had to wait ten to fifteen minutes. As Kara was seated on the bench, a young girl and his mother showed up, they were waiting for the bus too. “You’re pretty. Very pretty, can I be pretty like you. Your hair is nice” The little girl spoke out no where playing with Kara loose hair. When she was about to thank the little kid, the mother pulled the girl back and spoke. “Sorry, she just doesn’t know when to stop talking. Sorry if—” Kara cut the woman’s apology short.“No ma’am it’s okay.” she then changed her position, looking at the little child. A small genuine smile came across her face, the little girl was adorable with her childish smile and dimple. “And thank you very much. You’re the pretty one here, beautiful.” she poked her small dimple then played with her hair too, it was silky smooth, her fingers passed through perfectly. “Your hair is nicer than mine, silky smooth. Tell me your secret.” she let go of her hair. The little girl blushed so hard, her cheeks were red like a tomato. Then she motioned her hand for Kara to come closer, which she did. “I steal my mummy’s hair products. Don’t tell her” The little child whispered in Kara’s ear, they both giggled. “Your secret is safe with me.” she gestured an imaginary key locking mouth and then threw it away. The child smiled so did Kara, the mother watched the two with a heart of delight. Kara enjoyed being with kids, that’s what having nieces and nephews does to you. She missed them, and there was no way she could see them, they all knew she is dead. The little girl was leaning against Kara when the bus showed up. They both got up from the bench, then stepped into the bus. Today Kara didn’t sit at the back, she sat with the little ‘cause she insisted. The bus ride was full of stories from the little kid, this was the best bus ride Kara has ever had since Alex left. All good things must come to an end, the bus came to a stop, Kara’s stop. “Me gotta go now.” she pouted as she looked at the new friend, she had just made. “See you around.” she gave the kid a kiss on her forehead before get up. “Ruby. Don’t forget my name” The little child told Kara who agreed with a nod and a smile. “You have a lovely child ma’am, thank you for letting me meet her—Good bye.” the mother smiled, Kara got out of the bus with a great full smile. She walked to the building she always had her therapist session in. The excitement in her was evident, she didn’t have her hoodie on nor was her head held low and she had a cheerful smile on her face. When Drucy noticed Kara walk in, she didn’t make Kara wait at all, she just directed her to go right in. Yes, Drucy was the receptionist whose eyes charmed everyone, the one who always gave Kara big bright smiles. Kara walked into the office, the familiar warmth and colour welcomed her. She walked up to the comfortable couch and sat down. “Lovely morning, ain’t.” Dr. Stone asked Kara with a smile. Today Kelly had on a red pencil skirt, her legs where visible, it displayed her body just perfectly. “I wouldn’t agree more.” Kara leaned on the couch, Kelly wore a confused face. Kara has never been cheerful, she was about to ask what happened when Kara bet her to it. “I met a lovely kid, at the bus stop. She was so adorable and cute, it’s like she knew exactly how to make we feel better, after my day yesterday.” Kelly studied Kara’s face, to make sure she was actually hear this right which she was. “You like kids a lot?” she asked Kara who nodded yes, Kelly smiled at the thought of Kara taking care of a child. “How did you begin to like kids.” “Well, my niece and nephews were so charming but definitely devils. Those little hands, smiles, it’s just so adorable, they are adorable.” Kara half smiled and frowned. The thought of not ever seeing them again killed her, but it was for the best, it had to be. “Never took you for the children type.” Kelly commented but Kara was quiet, the memories eating her whole. “Didn’t mean to bring back memories, sorry. Uh, so why was yesterday shitty.” Dr. Stone spoke, at this point, the cheerful Kara who had walked in was long gone. Kara, the Kara she met a while ago laid back on the couch, her frown reappeared but with a smile. “Yesterday was Alex’s birthday, turned twenty four. I went to visit her, I..I— I met my, well her mother there and I totally freaked out and ran away.” tears were on the verge of rolling down her eyes. Kelly had that sad look on her face, she was sad for her friend. She watched as Kara miserably try to hold back her tears, but a few tears rolled down. “I’m sorry you had to go through that but Kara, you should have talked to her.” Kelly had a look of uncertainty, she didn’t want Kara to scream or anything, Kara had a short temper though she always hide it well. They talked about it though Kara obviously was trying to avoid it. After the therapy session, Kara left and gave Kelly a friendly good bye. She then walked out of the building, it was time for work.
