Fifty-One Wednesday, December 22 Offshore from Roatan “We have to slow down,” Eva said. She was standing at the stern of the Aggressor, keeping an eye on Taffy and Cleo. Cleo was keeping up, but Taffy was lagging behind. Thomas was beside her, tossing out some leftover bait fish he found in the freezer to help keep the dolphins’ energy up. Mel nodded and slowed the engine. It was necessary, but at this pace it would take a while to return to RIMS. Eva’s phone rang. It was Gilberto, worrying about Cleo and Taffy. “It’s okay, Gilberto,” Eva said, “they’re both with us. We’ll be back in an hour or two.” Gilberto exhaled. “I’m so relieved to hear it. Chico is getting hungry. He keeps head butting Jose like he’s trying to nurse. And he keeps making the same shrill whistle over and over.
