Stepping into the Spotlight: The Kiss

955 Words
Emily Carter “Gather around everyone” one of the members of the stage crew called out. I think his name is Damien. When everyone gathered round, he continued “rehearsals will start in fifteen minutes, we’ll start from the least important characters to the top characters, everyone will say start reading their character’s line from their scripts and as we progress, we will rehearse our lines without the scripts” He gave some of the scripts to another member of the stage crew and they distributed it us. My role and lines were almost the same as it was in the book except for a few tweaks and changes. They gave me a room for rehearsal, and I took a seat, feeling a mix of nervous and excitement bubbling within me. As I flipped through the pages of my script, I couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility weighing heavily on my shoulders. This was my chance to prove myself as an actress, to show everyone what I was capable of. As the minutes ticked by, I found myself growing more and more anxious. What if I messed up my lines? What if I couldn't deliver the performance they were expecting from me? Pushing aside my doubts, I took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand. As I was going through I realized that I had to rehearse with someone, I always rehearsed with Rachael but she would probably be too busy to come over and I had little time to practice. I stood up and peeked out of the room and saw a man standing very close to the film manager’s office looking down into his phone. “Hi, Mister” I said almost shouting so he could hear me. I waved till he looked he my direction. When he finally did I motioned him to come over. I guess he was a member of the stage lighting crew since he wore the crew’s uniform, white and black. He wore black slacks and a white shirt that wasn’t tucked in. I could tell he wasn’t sure I was calling him because he looked around and then pointed at himself and I nodded He walked over and I lightly grabbed him arm and led him into the room. Then I realized I just called someone and pulled them into a room without telling them why “I’m so sorry, forgive my manners, I just need someone to rehearse my lines with and I hoped you could help me out. You don’t have to do much, just watch me say these lines and just let me know if I mess up or anything like that” I said, hoping he would agree “Uhmm, okay. Sure” he said somewhat hesistantly and I jumped “Thank you so much” I said I started saying my lines while he pointed out where I messed up. Within an hour, I was able to say my lines without mixing them up or making a mistake. “Okay, I think that’s it” I said flipping through the pages of my script “oh wait, there’s one part I haven’t rehearsed” I gave the script back to him and started talking and he kept looking through the scripts and then suddenly I grabbed his shirt and drew him to myself and kissed him long enough just like the script said. I pulled away and took the script from him. “Ok now, I’m fully caught up. Uhmm sorry about the kiss, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t rusty. It’s been long since I kissed someone. Didn’t want to be caught off guard just in case, I was asked to do it on stage. “Burka, the lead role get, ready you’ll go on in thirty minutes” I heard Damien say “I have to go now, thank you so much for helping me” I said, checking my purse. I saw a hundred bucks and I took his hand and placed the money in it and closed his hands “thank you again” I said and headed out of the room. When the time finally came for me to recite my lines for the role, Burka to begin, I stepped onto the stage, my heart pounding in my chest. Damien called out the name of the second to the last character, and the actor stepped forward, ready to deliver their lines and I knew I was next. As the rehearsal progressed, I watched intently, studying the performances of my fellow cast members and mentally rehearsing my own lines. When it was finally my turn to step into the spotlight, I felt a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins. The light was very bright and pupils dilated and I got used to it Taking a deep breath, I began to recite my lines, my voice steady and confident. With each word, I felt myself sinking deeper into the character of Burka, channeling her emotions and bringing her to life on stage. After my performance, I felt good as I heard a round of applause, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride wash over me. Despite my initial nerves, I had managed to hold my own and deliver a performance that I could be proud of. As I made my way back to my room, I couldn't shake the feeling of excitement coursing through me. This was just the beginning of my journey as an actress, and I was ready to embrace every challenge and opportunity that came my way. With a renewed sense of determination, I knew that nothing could stand in the way of my dreams.
