CHAPTER TEN

"I'm not interested in what you have to offer, sir," I said, while smiling at him. I saw how he furrowed his brows because of what I'd said. Based on his reaction in front of me, it seems like he didn’t expect what I said. Even I couldn’t understand why, instead of rejecting or ignoring him, that was the first word that came out of my mouth. He chuckled a bit because of what I'd said. I was no longer able to hide my puckered lips when he chuckled. It seems like he already thinks a lot of things about me now. Well, I won't hesitate to throw his coffee at him if he ever tries to insult me or call me a name that I don't like. Try me, then. He slowly shook his head before he turned to look at me. Even though he laughed at what I said, I couldn't help but be amazed because he still managed to restrain himself from laughing at me. I'm glad that somehow he still acted professionally in front of me. I secretly raised my brows because of confusion before I decided to look at him. "I have nothing to offer, Miss Solana. I just want to talk to you and to have some opportunity to meet you more." He smiled sweetly at me, which made my face redden a bit. "Don't worry because I don't plan anything bad that may hurt you. I just want to ask you about your whereabouts. When I saw you last week, you never left my mind. Don't think that I'm interested or that I want something from you. It's just that... you have something that caught my attention." My brows furrowed because of what he said. "Why are you interested in my whereabouts?" I crossed my arms and smiled at him, trying to show him that I am not upset with the gestures I am making now. "What do I have that the girl who approached you earlier doesn't have, sir? It looks like she wants you." He leaned back in his seat while still looking at me. "I'm sorry, but I wasn't allowed to talk to a customer, especially when they were asking about my whereabouts and privacies." He couldn't even speak because of what I'd said. I didn't even let him speak. Instead of waiting for him to reply to me, I decided to turn my back on his table and go straight to the counter top where Julianne was, who was now waiting for me to approach her. Her brows were shut when our eyes met each other. "Is he trying to flirt with you?" she asked curiously. I felt a bit offended because of what she said. It seems like she didn't mean to ask me directly to the point, so instead of confronting and asking her about that matter, I decided to just forget it and shook my head as my answer. "Is that so?" she asked before she twitched her lips and distracted herself by brewing some coffee. "He looks interested in you. Why don't you give him a try?" "He just asked about the other meals offered by the cafe. Aside from that, he didn't say and asked anything else." When she finished brewing some coffee, she hurriedly turned to look at me. Her serious gazes bothered me a lot. "Weh?" she asked. I couldn't do anything but bite my lip to restrain myself from answering her questions. "Are you sure? Why did it take you minutes to talk to him then?" "Maybe because he asked a lot more?" She secretly rolled her eyes at me, and she no longer asked me about that man. She already knew that the next time I would answer her question, it would turn sarcastic if ever she bothered me with asking me the same question again. Don’t they know the word "privacy"? While I was busy reviewing some receipts, I couldn't help but look at the table where that mysterious man was sitting. He was busy on his phone, and it seemed like he was talking to someone via text. Sometimes I saw him sipping his coffee. Sometimes I saw him yawning, but do you know what surprised me a lot? Sometimes he would look at the counter where I was, and I felt a bit embarrassed every time our eyes met each other. I saw him looking at the counter where I was, and when our eyes met, he hurriedly raised his cup of coffee and smiled at me. I don't know if I have the right to reciprocate that smile or not. By the time I smiled at him, I knew that my coworkers would see me. They would spread news about me flirting with one of our customers throughout the coffee shop where I was, so to avoid that thing, I would do everything just to restrain myself from reciprocating his smiles. Why would I smile at him if I didn’t know him that much? Yes, he looks friendly, but because of today's era, you don't have to trust a man like him right away. Trust has many processes. Some people say you don't have to trust someone every time. You can't trust someone you met once. Not because he dresses well doesn't mean that he's a kind man. Not because he looks awful doesn't mean that he has a horrible attitude. I can take my coworkers as an example. During my first day and my first three weeks of working here, they continued to annoy and bully me. They didn’t waste a minute to stop me with the insults and names they were throwing at me, but when my fourth week started, that’s when I found out that they weren’t actually bad people. Yes, they felt mad at me in the beginning, but when my work lasted while I was with them, that's when I realized a lot of things. They say, don’t judge the book by its cover. In short, don't judge the character until you read his or her point of view. Every person has their own point of view, and we will only know the grievances and views they have if we let ourselves listen to their explanation. Yes, I experienced hell when I was with them at first, but when we reconciled with each other’s habits, that’s when I had the chance to get to know them and the personality they have. The employees who insulted and bullied me before were the ones who helped me when my unexpected and unforgettable day came. The people I hated before are the ones who defended me when someone tried to blame me for the things that I didn't commit. "Julianne and Joy were the ones who took some money at the cash register," the one who insulted me before said while looking at Mayden. "I saw them, Ma'am." My tears pooled in the corners of my eyes when they one by one testified to acquit me of the crime committed by two people I considered friends while I was working here. Mayden crossed her arms while looking at them before she turned to look at me. Based on her looks, it seems like she still doesn't believe my testimony even though someone defended me. "Solanna is innocent. She was just a victim too." "How do you say so?" Mayden asked while still looking at me. The girl behind me steps forward while holding her phone. "I got a recording on my phone. Everything they did, even the dismissal of Cristy, was planned. Solanna was just a victim." I wiped the tears that dripped down my cheeks because of being emotional. The girl smiled weakly at me before she looked at Mayden, who was now looking at her. "I admit that we bullied her before because of what happened to Cristy. Cristy is our good friend, but what she did is unacceptable. They became friends with Solanna because they knew they could use her to cover up their plan. They believe that they can use her because she and Spencer are close to each other." "That's right!" someone interrupted their conversation, which made me turn to look at her. "I heard them talking to each other privately. You can use the recording I gathered from their conversation as evidence if they were planning to implicate Solanna in a crime she didn't commit." That discussion didn't last either when Mayden decided. I nod to my coworkers who stood up and testified for me. I promised them that I would make up everything, but they just refused what I said. "Prove to them that you are innocent. Just prove to them that you are not included in their plan," she said before she smiled genuinely at me. "Give justice to yourself, Solanna." That issue came to an end when Mayden called the cops and filed a lawsuit against Julianne and Joy. There was a look of shock and curiosity on their faces at first. Their shocked faces didn't last either when the cops found two bundles of money from the cash register in their bags. When they saw me looking at them being picked up by the policemen, that’s when they started to point at me while cursing and telling the cops that I was there when they started their plan. In short, they were telling the cops that I was with them, but because of insufficient evidence, they were not able to implicate me in their crime. Actually, I am very grateful to my coworkers. I know that our relationship is flawed, but because of what happened now, that's when I proved that they weren't really bad people, just like what Julianne and Joy told me. "The audacity of them to tell you that," the girl hissed before she laid her hands in front of me, which I accepted. "I know that it's too late for us, but I want you to be my friend. It's too late for me, but it's not too late for you. Please start your new chapter with me, and I am here to apologize for what I did to you before." I smiled at her and accepted her hand, which made her smile grow even more. Some of our coworkers approached us, and just like her, they also extended a hand to me to get acquainted. I thought, my stay here in this coffee shop is going to be hell for me. I didn't even expect that my life would be hell for a long time when Julianne and Joy were still with me at work. Reeme, the girl who insulted me before, turned out to be my friend, and my other coworker, who used to bully me before, is now my friend. Since Cristy, Joy, and Julianne were already in jail, I had no one else to have lunch with but Reeme and the others. Spencer noticed the new relationship I had with Reeme and my other coworkers who bullied me before, so I wasn’t surprised when he teased me once again when he picked me up at the cafe and took me home. "That’s just how they behave when the employees I bring there are newly hired," he said, which made me purse my lips. He handed me the helmet he was holding, and soon he also wear it on my head. "I know my employees. Now that the employees I suspected are already gone, I don't have to be problematic again when it comes to you. Do you know my reasons why I always visited the cafe back then?" "What?" "I'm afraid that they may hurt you physically just like what your old friends did to you back then," he said, which made me pucker my lips. He smiled genuinely at me when he brushed my hair with his hand. "Now that they're all gone, somehow I'm flattered. I know that Reeme, Mayden, and their group of friends will take care of you, so I don't have to worry all the time." "I told you..." I said, which made him turn to look at me once again. "It's not your obligation to watch over me from time to time. I can handle myself, Spencer. You don't need to worry about me." "Watching you seemed to be my rest, Solanna," he said before he pinched my cheeks, which made my face redden a bit. "I already considered you my sister." "Well, I already have my own brother. I don't need a new brother like you." He burst into laughter because of what I'd said. "Why? Do you expect me to court you?" "Even if you court me, I will still reject you!" I said. We continued to tease each other until we decided to go home. While we were stuck in traffic on our way back home, I saw a car near us pass by. My eyes slowly turned to look at it, and I don’t know why, but it seems like it caught my attention even though I have no idea who was inside that car.
