Chapter 2 - His Savior

"Julie, the technical team arrived". Alodia went backstage together with the people we hired to help us prepare for the mini-concert. She offered a hand last time when we had some trouble finding personnel for technical support. "Thank you so much for coming," I said. There are a total of ten bands that are going to perform tonight. The ten bands are all senior students from different departments. Each band prepared three songs to perform for the freshmen. From morning until now, I kept myself busy preparing for the concert. I want it to be perfect for Alodia, especially for Xayne. This is his dream, so failure is not an option. The performers were getting ready backstage. The concert will start after one hour and I cannot help but get nervous, asking every staff member if there are still problems that need to be addressed. "President Harris, calm down", the vice president of the student council, Laila said. She grabbed both of my shoulders and pinned me down to sit and relaxed. "Everything will be fine. You work hard for this. Do not worry,'' she said. I smiled at her and said "No, we all work hard for this" and then we both giggled. I went backstage to check on the band. So far, nothing has become a problem yet. I brought water for Alodia and her friends. I see them at the corner of the room preparing their guitar and other instruments to be used for their upcoming performance. My eyes went straight to Xayne who was tuning his guitar. My heartfelt happiness after seeing him. I was so busy this morning that I did not get a chance to meet him. My day is not complete whenever I do not get a chance to see him. So, this is my lucky day. "Xayne!" I called his name, telling him that his future wife was there. Xayne turned his head to look at me. I smiled at him, but he did not smile back. I know Xayne is a serious person. He smiles and laughs very often, but I still like him. "Hi! Julie, why did you always call Xayne's name before us?" Carl, one of their band members asked. He is a playboy. "Is it not obvious yet? She likes our friend", Miguel said. He is the vocalist of the band. "Exactly!" I said when I got close to them. I gave them bottled water and cheered them up for their performance. I went straight to Alodia and Xayne cheered them both on. Since the day that I heard from Alodia about Xayne's dream, I did everything I could for this day to happen and now, it is going to happen. I am so excited for their band to perform. I know for sure that everybody will probably cheer for them because they are one of the best bands in our school. Their band's name. Ctrl V It sounded weird at first, but after I heard their explanation of their band's name, I found it nice. They named their band Ctrl V because they believe that the optimistic character of every member of the band affects every individual who hears their songs. The meaning of control v (PASTE) for them is "sharing" or just simply sharing. Guess who the main founder of their band's name is. It is Xayne. "Good luck guys!" I said happily with a smile on my face. The concert was about to start. One of the staff called me to prepare my speech. Everybody was ready, including the staff, the bands, the audience, and, of course, their music. I went to the fitting room to change my clothes. I put on some makeup and accessories, making sure that I would look so beautiful in front of Xayne. This is also my goal for today. It is to impress Xayne with my looks. "Let us all welcome the President of the student council, our one and only... the great and mighty Julie Harris!" The host shouted my name. The way he introduced me to the audience sounded like I was going into a wrestling battle. I took a deep breath before I went out on stage to meet everybody. I heard the crowd clapping their hands and cheering for me. I gave my best smile and tried to wave my hands like a beauty queen. The host asked a few questions about the activity. After that, I delivered my speech and the concert finally began. I went back backstage to see the Ctrl V band. I saw their uneasy and worried faces, so I tried to ask them. "What's the matter, is there a problem?" I asked when I arrived in front of them. Alodia's head towards me "Xayne broke his guitar string and we did not have any extra string to use. We even asked the other band for the extra string but no one had brought extra", she said with a worried tone. "Can Xayne borrow someone's guitar?" I asked, but everybody except Xayne shook their heads. "Xayne never borrows other guitars. He only used his guitar", Carl explained. I had never heard of it before. I think he really likes and values his guitar. "Okay, I will buy string then" I volunteered. "Huh? No way, there's no shop near the school that sells guitar strings" Miguel said. Everybody lowered their heads while Xayne kept on looking at his red guitar. I clenched my fist when I saw how sad his eyes were. Even though he could not say it, I can still see it through his eyes. "I will find one. Do not worry, I will be back before your performance. I promise you will perform on the stage!" I said and started to turn around and run to find a shop that sells string. I heard them call my name, but it did not stop me. If I stop right now, everything we have done will be put to waste. Xayne and his band's dream might never come true, so I cannot stop. I need to run and make it happen. I ran everywhere to find a shop that sells guitar strings. After several minutes of hunting, I found one. I bought the most expensive one and headed back to school. "Julie..." Alodia uttered my name. "The string... h-here it is," I said as I gasped for air while raising the string that I bought. I saw everyone's amused faces after seeing me, including Xayne. I got back before their performance. I walked towards Xayne. I do not know if he was looking at me or at the string that I was holding. I handed him the string. "I do not know what kind of string you prefer. So, I choose the expensive one", I said, smiling at him. I do not know if I am still at my best because I really felt exhausted. "Thanks" he plainly said as he grabbed the strings in my hand. He put the strings on his guitar and strummed it to tune the sound. That time. I felt so much happiness after hearing him say 'thanks' to me. I have done something good for him and I am so proud of myself. I made him happy and I saw it in his eyes.
