VIOLETA
My mouth was in awe and for some reason, I couldn't close it. This place was absolutely magnificent and my heart was beating very fast with each step we took. I don't know what this could actually mean. Was she going to turn out to be two faces and turn me in or was she actually going to promise me like she promised in the carriage?
My head was aching terribly, and I knew I wanted answers. I needed it so badly, because the last thing I wanted was getting myself into some kind of trouble and Ending up back in that horrible pack. The thought of it just made me feel a thrill down my spine. Maybe, I should be planning an escape or something.
I mean you cannot be too careful.
“Welcome Princess Thania.”
I was snapped back to reality by those voices, realizing that we were already back at the palace and I didn't even realize it. I was already so lost in my thoughts that I wasn't able to think of anything else.
Princess Thania smiled. “This is my very good friend, Violeta,” she introduced, and I tried to force a smile. “She's going to be staying with us for a while and I expect you all to treat her with the same respect that you give to me.”
“Yes, Princess Thania,” they responded.
My heart beat raced at that statement. She wasn't going to keep me as some kind of slave? She's already done so much for me, isn't this a bit much? I don't want to be a burden to her because I'm starting to feel like one.
“Are you excited to see your room, Violeta?” Princess Thania asked and I forced a smile, nodding in response.
“Very well,” she nudged a maid nearby. “Take her upstairs to the guest room next to mine. Prepare her bath and mahe sure that you provide her with whatever she needs.”
“Yes, Princess.”
“Where are you going to be?” I asked Thania before she could leave. I was already feeling nervous, scared that someone might recognize me and report me to my pack.
She smiled. “I'm going to see my father. He doesn't know about my arrival yet,” she told me.
I nodded in response, feeling guilty. I don't know why I was suddenly so restless. She left with another maid, leaving me alone in the midst of so many maids and I was in tattered clothes. I'm sure they had so many questions running through their minds because of my appearance and clothes bug wouldn't dare to ask me because of Princess Thania.
“This way, Miss.”
The maid's voice brought me right back to reality. I smiled, following her up the stairs and was led into a magnificent room. This was even bigger than my room back at the pack. I never imagined that I'd be gifted with such kindness.
“I'd go prepare your bath now, Miss.”
I nodded, watching her make her way into the bathroom. I sat on the bed, in awe of how soft it is and I couldn't stop gushing over it that I actually started bouncing on it.
“Miss Violeta!” She called. She looked awestruck and I was starting to feel extremely embarrassed by what just happened but if anything, she spared me the embarrassment by not acknowledging it.
“Your bath is ready,” she informed me.
I stood up, brushing off my dress awkwardly. “Thank you,” I muttered, following her into the bathroom.
The moment I stepped inside, I froze. The bathroom was bigger than the entire quarters I had back in the pack house. A massive marble tub stood in the center, already filled with warm water and flower petals. The scent of lavender and honey swirled in the air, calming my nerves more than I expected.
She bowed slightly and moved to the side. “Shall I help you undress, Miss?”
I stiffened. “No,” I said quickly, maybe a bit too quickly. “I can manage.”
She didn't question it. Just gave a soft nod and stepped out, closing the door behind her.
I stood there for a second, unsure of what to do with myself. Everything felt so... unreal. I ran a hand over my arms. Dirty. Bruised. The sleeves of my dress were torn in places, and my knees still had dried blood on them. This body didn’t belong in a place like this. I didn’t belong in a place like this.
I slowly peeled off my clothes and stepped into the tub, wincing slightly as the warm water touched my sore skin. The heat felt both painful and healing at the same time, like it was trying to wash away the girl I used to be.
I leaned back and let out a shaky sigh, letting the water hold me for a while.
Was this what safety felt like?
Minutes passed. Maybe more. I wasn’t sure. I didn’t want to leave the bath, not yet. I didn’t want to go back to a world where people could betray me, hurt me, lie to me.
But I couldn’t hide here forever.
After some time, I stood and dried off with the soft towel laid out beside the tub. A set of clean clothes had been brought in—soft silk, pale lavender, fitting loosely around my body. I looked at myself in the mirror. Not a slave. Not a prisoner. Just... Violeta.
I stepped out of the bathroom. The maid was waiting silently.
“Would you like something to eat, Miss?” she asked gently.
I hesitated. “Maybe… later. Thank you.”
She nodded again. “Shall I leave you to rest?”
“Yes, please.”
Once she was gone, I walked slowly around the room, touching the fabric of the curtains, running my fingers along the polished dresser, gazing at the paintings on the walls. Everything in here screamed royalty. It made me feel out of place, like I’d break something just by breathing too hard.
But there was a part of me… a very small part… that was beginning to hope.
I lay down on the bed, the silk sheets cool against my skin, and for the first time in weeks, I let my eyes close without fear.
Whatever tomorrow brought, at least tonight—I was safe.
