Chapter Ten

VIOLETA “I can't tell you how grateful I am for you, Violeta. I thank the day the moon goddess sent you to enter my carriage. You were definitely God sent, I knew it.” Tears were gushing out of her eyes. “Are you crying?” I palmed her cheeks in my hands. She couldn't hold it anymore and let out all the tears. “You don't know what this means to me, Violeta. I've spent money on best healers from different packs but they were unable to heal my father and then you come up with a cure,” she stops to take a deep breath. “It just feels so surreal, Violeta. I can't tell you how grateful I am,” she continued. “But I can show you how grateful I am.” She clapped her hands and the next thing that followed were a group of people lining up with gifts in their hands. “W—What are all these, Princess Thania?” She smiled and got up from the bed. “This is just a small token, Violeta. Take it as a thank you gift from you to me.” My jaw dropped at the sight of things that she assembled for me. There was a basket of clothes, jewelries— I was sure they were real gold. A Lot of skin products, things I would've never imagined I'd have again. I couldn't stop the tears that were flowing down my cheeks. Princess Thania was quick to notice it and came to sit beside me. “What's wrong, dear? Don't you like it? I can definitely get it changed if you don't want this one.” I stopped her before she could get up and leave to do it. “No, no. This is just so much, I can't help but get emotional,” I cried. She sighed, taking a deep breath. “You almost scared me, Violeta. You had me thinking it was something serious.” I looked up at her, a confused expression on my face. “Isn't it?” I asked, and could tell by her expression that she was fighting back the urge to laugh. “Whatever, Violeta,” she laughed. She nudged the maids next to her to get everything assembled in my room. “No, this is all too much. I can't accept it,” I tried refusing. She scoffed. “This is just a token, Violeta. The real thing is yet to come,” she got up from my bed. “Arrange it girls.” “But—” I tried protesting but before I could say anything else, she left the room. The maids did as they were told, and I was sure they wouldn't dare go against her. “Miss Violeta?” I heard someone call and turned to Lily standing by the door. “Yes, Lily?” I responded. “It's time for dinner,” she informed me. I was so caught up in my conversation with Princess Thania that I had forgotten about dinner. “Oh, I will be there in a bit. Let me change into something real quick.” She smiled and walked out the door. I went to my closet and changed into something simple for dinner since I would still come up to take a shower before sleeping. When I arrived at the dining table, everyone's eyes were on me. But they were more welcoming this time around— Strange. When I arrived at the dining table, everyone's eyes were on me. But they were more welcoming this time around—strange. Jasmine, who barely acknowledged me before, smiled warmly and waved me over. It felt… different. “Hi, Violeta,” she said as I took my seat. “I didn’t get the chance to thank you properly earlier. What you did for Uncle Ragnar… it means everything to us.” Her voice was soft, almost shy, like she wasn’t used to saying things like that. Joshua, sitting beside her, nodded with a smile. “Yeah,” he said. “We were all losing hope. The healers from the neighboring packs couldn’t do anything. But then you came, and now Uncle Ragnar is stable. Stronger, even.” My heart softened. “I’m really glad I could help,” I said, unsure of what else to say. Compliments always made me nervous. “Help?” Princess Thania raised an eyebrow playfully from across the table. “You saved him, Violeta. Don’t downplay that.” Jasmine laughed lightly. “Honestly, I haven’t seen Thania smile like this in weeks. She barely eats when she’s worried, but now? She’s glowing again.” Thania grinned. “And it’s all thanks to you.” I opened my mouth to respond, but Rachael beat me to it. “You know,” she said, glancing at me, “if you could heal someone that is close to death… maybe you can fix scars too.” The room quieted just a little. I followed her gaze and realized what she was talking about. My scar. The old burn mark that curved down from the corner of my jaw to my neck—a part of my past I had tried to hide but couldn’t erase. I instinctively reached up, fingers brushing the edge of it. I hated that thing. I hated what it reminded me of. Rachael tilted her head. “I’m just saying… wouldn’t it be kind of amazing if you could heal yourself too?” I froze, unsure of how to respond. Was she mocking me? Her tone wasn’t exactly cruel, but it wasn’t kind either. It was curious. Observing. Thania, however, gasped softly like it was the best idea in the world. “Wait, that’s actually brilliant,” she said, eyes wide with excitement. “Violeta, have you ever tried healing yourself before?” I shook my head slowly. “No… I didn’t even know I could heal someone else until today. I never thought about using it on myself.” Joshua leaned forward a bit. “Wouldn’t it be worth trying, though? If you can do it, that scar could fade. Just like that.” I looked down at my lap, my hands clenched together. “I don’t know if it’ll work,” I said quietly. “Scars are… different. They’re not open wounds. They’re old pain.” “But pain is still pain, isn’t it?” Jasmine added gently. Thania reached across the table, placing her hand over mine. “It won’t hurt to try. And if it doesn’t work, we’ll still love you just the same. You’re beautiful with or without it, Violeta.” I blinked fast, trying not to cry. I didn’t expect that. Not from her. Not from anyone. “I…” I cleared my throat. “Okay. I can try.” And just like that, it was settled. After dinner, I would attempt something I had never done before—heal a piece of myself I had long given up on.
