Mr Luciano

461 Words
It was two days after I was hired at the hotel. I had cleaned Mr. Luciano's room the day before but I had not met the man. The rumor was that he was in Atlantic City on business, Angela had informed me about his occupation and that increased my nervousness. I had just finished wiping and polishing the furniture when I decided to vacuum the room. I had no idea how the machine worked and one of the other maids helped me the previous day. I dragged the machine into the center of the room and tried to figure out how to turn it on. "Come on, how do you do this". I groaned as I struggled. Suddenly a masculine hand reached over my head to the vacuum. "Let me help with that". A deep voice said as I jumped releasing a squeal as my hand went to my heart. "I'm sorry I scared ya". He said my gaze lifted to see the olive-skinned man with dark hair that was gelled into a slick hairstyle. I felt my fear rise when my gaze met his dark eyes with one of his eyes being droopy and a large scar adorned his cheek. He was a scary-looking man. "Oh no, sir I'm alright". I said and he nodded with a smile on his face. "I'm Charles Luciano". He said offering me his hand. My eyes widened. "Oh, Mr. Luciano. I'm Victoria Greene, the new maid". I said putting my hand out to shake his. What he did next shocked me instead of shaking my hand he took it into his before bringing it to his lips and placing a gentle kiss on it. A white man kissing a black woman's hand was unheard of where I was from. "Nice to meet ya, is it Ms or Mrs. Greene?". He said. "Ms. Greene". I replied and he smiled. "Good to know". He said. "Let me help with that". He said pointing to the vacuum cleaner. "Oh yes. I apologize I am new to this job". I said. "No problem". He said as he pressed a button and the loud sound came out. "There ya go". He said a bit loudly so I could hear him. "Thank you, sir". I said and he nodded before turning around and leaving. I had heard many stories about Mr. Luciano. He was a gangster so I assumed he was a cruel man but the man I had just met was anything but cruel. Perhaps that was just a facade, he was a pimp perhaps that was how he lured women into prostitution. Whatever thoughts I had about Mr. Luciano would change once I got to know him and I got to know him in more ways than one.
