SCHOLARSHIPS
1st Episode
Joannah's POV
I knocked on the door of the office that I was shown to by one of
workers at an organization agency, I was directed here by one of my
High school teacher who found out about my need for secondary scholarships
For my siblings and he also wrote me a recommendation letter and gave me his photocopied ID
I guess it's the sperks of having contacts because when I told the receptionist the person who sent me to the agency
She didn't give me any difficulties.
Come in please, I heard from another side of the door
Have a sit and introduce yourself names, age parents names and what brings you to my office please ,
said a lady who looked so professional with her work in her office chair
and to my observation she looked like she is in her mid 40s or so
She had a very welcoming smile and I liked her from the first sight having had multiple difficulties
With people in offices before she was different.
Um my name is Joannah Mukwaasi Iam 20yrz old and have two siblings
Joel Mukwaasi and Joslin Mukwaasi . We only live with our mother
And her name is Amanda Mukwaasi who is just 40 years old.
I came here at Help Rise Someone (HRS) because am in need of two scholarship for my
Two siblings in your senior secondary school program
I had just finished telling the lady who I had been told like 2hours ago that she is the one responsible for
giving out the scholarship registration forms.
Yes 2hours back, I have been at this Organization agency for 2good hours just waiting for the lady to finish
up with all God knows what in there.
When I had just came in her assistant told me to give her all the required information about my recommendation
Including IDs and a recommendation letter
she told me to wait for her until she gets some confirmation from
the owner of the photocopied identification card I had given her along with the recommendation letter.
I waited for more 30 minutes only for her to tell me to wait for her in the hallway
near her office.
After like 5 minutes she called me in her office and handed me two envelopes which I assumed had
two forms in them.
Um if am not mistaken I didn't hear you give me
Your father's name said the lady who I got to know her
name was Mrs Linda Okech.
Well I didn't ma'am because me and my siblings only
live with our mother
Well you have to indicate your father's name on those forms too
even if he is a deceased. You can can as well put late.......
OK ma'am but I will first consult my mother about this.
Is there any hindrances why you shouldn't? And it's not you that is registering for
the scholarships why didn't your mother come with you?
Well my mother is at work right now and my siblings are at school right now
OH I see, so tell me about your father why isn't he in the picture?
I think the lady caught up on my hesitation to speak with her about my
Or our father's whereabouts because the next thing she says is
OK it's very okay if you don't feel comfortable with the conversation
But I only asked because these scholarship registrations and procedures needs consent
From both parents if they are still alive because we issue scholarships
To orphans too but at least they could also have a guardian to sign there forms
On their behalf.
I understood her point about this but what was I going to tell her about
Our father, nothing I myself knew nothing about him regardless of the fact that
He left us when I had just turned six
That's all I remember I don't even remember his face
Um Mrs Okech is it okay if I just give you his name because I really have no nothing to say about my father
Or maybe I come with my mother another time when we finish filling in the forms
Well that would be great, she tells me with a big smile I like her already. Not alot of people give genuine smiles especially when you need something from them when it's not the other way around.
I swear my mum won't believe I got the forms on my first day of going to this agency because alot of people try to get their scholarships but it's really hard.
But in my case I think even the person who recommended me did a very good job for me to get these forms
imagine they are free but getting them is a real battle. At least that's what I heard other people say about this (HRS) agency.
