I was in the middle of attending to a patient when one of the other nurses told me I had a call at the front desk.
Confused as to who it was, I dragged myself over.
“Hello?”
“Evangeline, thank the goddess you answered.”
I hated the way my heart leaped at the sound of Alex’s voice. Had he finally realized I was moving out? Had he finally come to his senses?
“I need you to bail me out of jail.”
Just like that, my hope was shattered. “What? How the f**k did you end up in jail?”
“Don’t yell, I don’t want anyone to hear. Margaret called me, she said she needed help. I found some rogues trying to r**e her. I lost control and now I’m in jail.”
I scoffed.
