I’d never been inside the Caine house before.
I couldn’t stop my mouth from dropping open as I took in the stunning interior. It was magnificent, even more than Alex’s family house. I’d always known the Caine’s had money, but I never knew it was this much.
“Close your mouth or you’ll catch flies,” an older voice drawled.
I turned sharply to find Grandma Caine standing behind me, her hands folded neatly in front of her. She was every bit as terrifying as I heard and the distrustful look in her eyes told me I was on thin ice.
Alex’s mother brought me but refused to come in with me and I could understand why.
“What is so important that you, a mere human, had to bother me?” she asked. “You better make it worth my while. I should be having my afternoon tea right now.”
