Chapter 44

Nicholas’s POV

XANDER sent the team to pick me up from the castle and take me to Full Moon. Up until the time I got in the SUV, Elder Peters and Elder Lincoln were trying to convince me to stay. I know they are up to something, and I left one of Xander’s guys there to keep an eye on them. Since I am being escorted by my two best friends and elite warriors, they had no excuse for me not to go but kept saying my life was in danger. I know now that they are the dangerous ones. As we leave the castle, I text Xander and ask about Crane. I know she said she had a mission, but I really want to see her. He texts back that she will be back tomorrow.

It is late afternoon when we arrive at Full Moon, and I finally get to see my cousin after four years. He introduces me to the Crystal Lake, current Alpha, ex Alpha, and their mates, who I find out are relatives of my mate. I meet Teresa, Xander’s mate and his ranked members. We have a tour of the territory and then have a private dinner and talk. We talk about pack stuff and private stuff. I tell him what Crane said to me and he laughs

“You are going to have a tough time with her” he comments

“I am the King and her mate. She will submit to me. She will follow my instructions and be the Luna Queen I need" I say

He starts laughing harder. He spits the bourbon he was drinking across the room and fell off the chair laughing.

“WHAT?”

“If that is what you are looking for, you might as well reject her now. If you are looking for a woman to submit to you, Anna is not the one”

“Anna?”

“You didn’t think her real name was Crane, did you? She just uses that on jobs. It was her mother’s maiden name”

Just then he gets a call from her, and she states she needs a cleanup crew and an extraction team. He asks how many we are cleaning up and she says about thirty. He tells her Gordon is here with Thane for the meeting, so I will send him to check out the computers.

“What kind of mission is she on that she needs a cleanup crew, Xander?” I ask worriedly

“Your mate is an elite warrior. She worked her ass off to reach that status. Like I said, she is not the docile woman who will cook and clean for you. If that is what you want, and you push her to be anything but who she is, she will reject you”

“What is she doing now?”

“Her team just took out the supplier for the trafficking ring that has been plaguing our kind for the last five years. They are bringing him back, and they killed the rest of his crew. Anna is the leader of the team, and they guys respect and love her like a sister”

“Guys? Are there no other females on this team?”

“No, just Anna. They are just friends”

“My mate is out there with a bunch of men? Alone? Unmarked?”

I stand up pacing. I am getting more and more angry as I think of Anna with a bunch of men. I know Xander said they are friends, and they see her as a little sister, but that is not calming my wolf.

“Let’s go for a run and let your wolf out. Maybe that will make you feel better. She will be back tomorrow” Xander suggests

We run and hunt for about three hours. Fury is a little calmer but still wants his mate. I was able to reason with him that she will be here tomorrow. We will wait to see her tomorrow. We showered after our run. I am hungry so I go to the kitchen. Sitting at the island is Alpha Thane and Luna Teresa. They are eating cake and ice cream.

“Evening” I say, and they turn quickly to the intrusion

“King Nicholas” they say getting up to bow

“No need for that. Is there any more cake? I am hungry after the run, Xander, and I had”

“Sure, come sit and I will make you a bowl” Teresa says

“It’s just you two?” I question

“Yeah, this is a tradition for us since Teresa moved here. Whenever one visits the other, we get together to catch up and talk on the second night of our visit” Thane says

“I don’t want to intrude on your sibling bonding time”

“No intrusion” Teresa says putting a bowl with cake and ice cream in front of me

“Since you don’t mind me staying. Can I ask you a question? I know you are aware that Anna is my mate. I was talking to Xander about her, and he kept laughing at me” I said and they both smiled

“He told you” I commented. They started laughing and nodding their heads

“What is wrong with wanting a woman to submit and care for me?” I question

“Nothing. But if all you want is Susie, homemaker, then Anna is not that person. She will care for you. She will feed you and rub your back when you have a hard day. But she will also fight alongside you. Be just as busy and have just as many hard days as you do.” Thane says

“You need to get to know Anna. You guys need to talk and understand who each of you are as individuals and what you want in this relationship. But she will never bow to any man. She will respect you but never submit. She has been through too much and come out too strong to submit to anyone” Teresa says

“How can I as the King have a mate that won’t submit to me?”

“Why must you have a woman that submits to you? Can she not stand beside you?” Teresa asks

“Do you not submit to Xander?”

“f**k NO! I respect him as my husband. We are a team and work together. I don’t submit to no man. I bow to you because I respect you” Luna Teresa says

“If I demanded Tessa submit to me, she would kick my ass. Then withhold s*x. That is not a fight worth fighting. I actually prefer her by my side than behind me”

“I really need to think this through. Thane, are you not possessive of your mate?”

“Hell yes. But I know she would never disrespect me, and I learned to reign in my anger and possessiveness before I confront her. The first time I yelled at Tessa, she was training with a warrior. I pulled her away from him, growled and punched him. I then yelled at her in front of everyone at the training ground to stay away from other men. She yelled at me to not yell at her and disrespect her in public, then kicked me in the nuts”

“She what?”

“Yeah, then she got me an icepack and iced them for me. She explained that I need to learn how to talk to her. She would never disrespect me with another man. And if her being around another man bothers me, I need to talk to her not yell at her”

“Would Anna kick me in the nuts?”

“For certain. Knowing her, it will probably be worse than that” he said

“The Moon Goddess put you guys together for a reason. It’s now up to you two to make it work. I do advise that you rethink what a mate is supposed to be and what you want. Then talk to her” she says

We talked about other things going on in the pack. Their roles and what I want to do for the Kingdom. I left them about an hour later for them to finish their sibling time. Going up to my bed I have a lot to think about when it comes to Anna.

The next morning, I go to breakfast and Xander says she will be here later. A couple of hours later she was still not back. I question him again, and he says she’s hanging out with her team. I start to lose it. She knew I was going to be here and that I wanted to see her but instead she chose to hang out with other men. An unmarked female should not be out with unmated men. I should be her priority. Nothing and no one else should be more important to her than me, especially not other men. I go to Xander’s office.

“Where is my mate?” I growl

“Nicholas, calm down. She will be here later”

“No Xander, I need to see her now. I need someone to take me to her. I am asking. Please don’t make me command you”

“Okay, I advise you calm down before you see her or it will not go the way you want it to”

He called a driver to take me to the hotel. He says she is in penthouse #1. We get to the hotel in about two hours. Xander gave me the access card to get to the penthouse floor. I ring the bell, but there’s no answer. I asked Xander to call her, but he said it’s going to voicemail. I knocked again but no response. I stand and wait for her return. It’s about 15 minutes, when I smell her scent, and she comes around the corner followed by four guys

“WHERE THE f**k HAVE YOU BEEN!” I yell
